DRESSING

 Any sterile material used to directly cover a


wound
 Can be made out of cloth, gauze, or any
available material
 Used to control bleeding, absorb, or
cover/protect an exposed affected part
TYPES

 Commercially Available
– Rolled gauze
– Gauze pads or sheets
– Adhesive strips

 Improvised
– Cleanest possible material that can serve its
purpose
BANDAGE and BANDAGING
BANDAGE

 Any clean cloth used to hold dressing in


place, to control bleeding, to immobilize an
affected area or to hold a splint.
TRIANGULAR BANDAGE

 Usually 36-40” at base


 Muslin or cotton made
 Can be used as roller bandage, compression
bandage, sling or tourniquet
GENERAL PRINCIPLES

 Apply snugly
 Always tie with a SQUARE KNOT
 Check for swelling, discoloration and
circulation before and after application
 Careful
 Accurate
 Neatness
 Speed
