Mahindra & Mahindra

M&M is an Indian multinational automobile manufacturing corporation headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India.

It is one of the largest vehicle manufacturers by production in the Republic of


India.

The company was founded in 1945 in Ludhiana as Mahindra & Mohammed by

brothers K.C. Mahindra and J.C. Mahindra and Malik Ghulam Mohammed.

After independence, Mohammed emigrated to Pakistan. The company changed its name to Mahindra & Mahindra in 1948.

Mahindra & Mahindra was set up as a steel trading company in 1945. It is ranked #21 in the list of top companies of India in Fortune India 500.

Anand Mahindra

Anand Mahindra born 1 May 1955. He graduated from Harvard College,

Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1977 and completed


his MBA from Harvard Business School, Boston, Massachusetts in 1981.

According to Forbes, his net worth is US $825 million and is ranked #68 in India's rich list.

In 1991, he was appointed Deputy Managing Director of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.

Between 2003-04 he chaired the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)

Mahindra is a Director of The National Stock Exchange of India Limited appointed under the "Public Representatives" category.

He is the Chairman of National Safety Council of India. Mahindra is the Founder Chairman of the Mumbai Festival. He is also a Trustee of Naandi Foundation. Mahindra is also the Chairman of the National Institute of Design's Governing Council.

He is the current chairman of the governing board at the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad.

Mahindra Acquisitions

In July 2007, M&M buys 64.6 per cent of Punjab Tractors for about Rs 1,400
crore. Retains the Swaraj brand and turns the company around in two years.

2008 M&M buys an 80 per cent stake in Kinetic Motors' two-wheeler business for Rs 110 crore.

2009 Tech Mahindra, which began life as a venture with British Telecom and later became the information technology business of the M&M Group.

May 2010 Mahindra buys a 55.2 per cent stake in Reva Electric Car Co, most of it from Reva's promoter. It also brings in fresh equity.

November 2010 M&M acquires a 70 per cent stake in South Korea's Ssangyong Motor Co for about Rs 2,100 crore, including bonds.

It is the largest outbound deal by M&M.

In June 2009 M&M buys Satyam Computer Services when the government puts Satyam on the block following revelations of an accounting fraud committed by its Founder-Chairman B. Ramalinga Raju.

Tech Mahindra pays an estimated Rs 2,650 crore for a 51 per cent stake. Rebranded as Mahindra-Satyam.

The new company declares a consolidated net profit of Rs 225.2 crore for the April-June quarter of 2011/12, its first since the takeover.

The entire experience of the Mahindra Satyam turnaround taught that crisis can always be turned into an opportunity.

Awards

Mr. Mahindra received the Business Leader of the Year Award, at The Asian Awards
2011 held in London, 2011. CNBC TV18 has given him the honor, as the Outstanding Business Leader for 2009. He was named Business Leader of the Year by the Economic Times Awards 20082009. The Most Inspiring Corporate Leader of the Year 2007, from NDTV Profit. He bagged the CNBC Asia Business Leader Award for the year 2006.

He was recognized as the Person of the Year 2005, from Auto Monitor.
Anand Mahindra received 2005 Leadership Award from the American India Foundation for his, and the Mahindra Group's commitment to corporate social responsibility. He received Rajiv Gandhi Award 2004, for outstanding contribution in the business

field.

The President of the French Republic honored him with the Knight of the Order of Merit'.
