OUTCOMES WP3 Extrapolation domains Change in Knowledge, Attitude and/or Skills Project outputs Compilation of a geodatabase covering all thematic spatial information related to the project, including characterization of the test sites and study areas Extrapolation domains for each technology Land-use plans based on trends, constraints, and interventions
Impact
Local GO, extension agents and scientists responsible for agricultural technical innovations
Learn about new technologies and where its chances of adoption is greatest.
Use of domain maps as a decision support tool to more effectively scale up the adoption of new technologies
National level policy makers responsible for water resource and land management and land use zoning. Understand the implications of different land use plans under different future scenarios. Use the maps as decision support tools when planning future interventions.
Increased chances of appropriate technology adoption and likelihood of adoption of sustainable land and water use policies.

Extrapolation Domains
Process
Decision rules
Existing spatial data and creation of new layers Satellite data processing (23m and 5m resolution)
Geo-statistical Modeling
Draft Layers for discussion and evaluation among CPWF-G1 team and .. GDBC team and stakeholders Refinement in landuse requirements and criteria Open access of final extrapolation domain maps through WebGIS
Study Area
Proposed number of domains to map Existing system for validation (1)Aman Rabi crop (2)Aus - Aman (3)Aman - Shrimp (4)Year round aquaculture Innovative systems for targetting (1)Aman (HYV) - Rabi (HVC) (2)Aus Aman - Boro (3)Aus - Aman - Rabi crop (4)Boro - Aman (5)Aus (HYV) Aman (HYV) (6) Year round polyculture (7) Aman - Shrimp Each one can be mapped as present and conditional system

Work in Progress
3 Ground Survey completed to cover Aman and Boro Crops Spectral Signature for specific crops and situations created First version of Land Use Land cover map (23 m resolution) near to completion after Aus GT in June 2013 Initial Soil salinity map generated using salinity index need improvement Yellow Band classification with decision rule
Values in percent
Otther datasets include Population, work participation rates, literacy rates, labour, farm machination, irrigation, livestock, crop area, HYVs and cropping intensity

Amazon cloud platform is Always on and not limited by the bandwidth or infrastructure of any GBDC partner
Data upload to the webGIS is currently managed by IRRI ANYONE can view the data online ONLY REGISTERED USERS can download the GIS data they can download in bulk or direct to their GIS via a Web Mapping Service We have made a demo page as an example of that it looks like
All layers generated by G1 will be on the GIS for view/download. What other layers are we willing to share for viewing or downloading?
What other information from GBDC could be on there? Survey sites? Trial sites? Other activities? WebGIS should be embedded in GBDC web presence. Need to agree on registration process, and restrictions on use for data download. IRRI absorbs cost of webGIS during project lifetime, who will take this on after the project ends?
Research issues
What issues are coming out of the project important from a development context / from a strategic science context How to maintain the data sharing environment / partnerships beyond the project? The benefit of this within G1 was highlighted in our MSC story, but how can this be sustained post project? Too many projects waste precious time & effort in data collection or rather data searching. What are the mechanisms and incentives at management level in each institute to promote more transparent access to and information about data holdings?
Research issues
What issues are coming out of the project important from a development context / from a strategic science context The first extrapolation domains have already identified areas (i.e. Polder 43/2f) that are highly suitable for intensification. More areas will follow as more domain maps are produced. How do we go beyond the remit of G1 and the GDBC to convince stakeholders to not only refer to these domains but to actually act up on them? What is the effect of land tenure, poverty and livlihood constraints on adoption and what are the strategies to increase adoption under these conditions?
Research issues
What issues are coming out of the project important from a development context / from a strategic science context What are the potential gains in productivity (from G2) and income (from G2) in moving from current cropping systems (from land use map) to more intensive options (from domain maps) and how many farms/farmers would be affected (from census data)?
