CASE FACTS
Nita is approached by Prashant for conducting HR Consultation and Training program. Nita offers to do her 1 st assignment free of cost. Prashant insists that every professional service should be paid for.

Finally they concede to a particular amount which is lower than Nitas usual fee.
The duration of the agreement was for 6 months. Project - Creation of 360 degree performance appraisal and feedback system for the company.

In about 10 weeks the project was ready to launch. It was accepted by all the employees, except in two cases. During the sixth month Nita starts helping individual employees to understand the new system. After the sixth month, Nita raises her full bill though she had attended less than the usual 8 days of the month.

This give rise to a gulf of difference between Prashant and Nita.

Q1. WHAT IS PRASHANTS ATTITUDE TOWARDS NITA AT THE START OF THE PROJECT? AT THE END OF THE PROJECT?

AT THE START OF THE PROJECT

Affective Component: There is no particularly strong emotion towards Nita, but still we feel that Prashant trusted her and their friendship may have had a slight emotional effect on Prashant.
Behavioral Component: Prashant was cordial with her and behaved very warmly, but still kept the professional approach. Cognitive Component: Prashant has a thought or belief that Nita is a close friend, and that she wont let him down.

AT THE END OF THE PROJECT

Affective Component: We feel that Prashant is angry towards Nita for letting him down.
Behavioral Component: Prashant stopped talking to her completely, he made an end to their relationship.

Cognitive Component: Prashant now has a thought or belief that Nita is a very money minded person, hence the sarcastic comment.

Q2. WHAT FACTORS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS CHANGE?

Nita raises the full bill though she has not worked the full contract time.

Nita does not make any attempt to explain her stance to Prashant.
Prashants accountant confirms the amount to be paid to Nita which is very unusual. Prashant judges Nita on the basis of one of her actions and makes no attempt to reconcile.

Q3. IF YOU WERE NITA, WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE DONE DIFFERENTLY?

Nita could have explained her financial constraints in the first place.

She could have clarified her stance when Prashant sent the sarcastic mail to her.
She shouldn't have severed her ties with Prashant because of a single incident.
