Jute is a Integral part of culture of bengal for centuries. In 19th & 20th century raw jute was carried off to UK. It was then processed in mills. Jute has been called the GOLDEN FIBER OF BANGLADESH. Cotton was first cultivated in the Old World 7,000 years ago, by the inhabitants of western Pakistan. Cotton clothed the people of ancient India, Egypt, and China. Hundreds of years before the Christian era, cotton textiles were woven in India with matchless skill.

Jute needs a plain alluvial soil and standing water. The climate for jute is monsoon season. Temperature from 20-40 degree C and relative humidity of 70-80% are favorable for cultivation Cotton requires a long frost-free period, plenty of sunshine, and a moderate rainfall, usually from 600 to 1200 mm.

Jute is a rain fed crop with little need for fertilizers or pesticides. It covers from the stem and ribbon of the jute plant. The fibers are first extracted by retting and then by stripping. Cotton seed is mechanically planted by machines that plant up to 12 rows at a time. The planter opens a small furrow and drops in seed, covers them, and then packs more dirt on top. The seed is placed 1.9 to 3.2 cm deep.
