Try to remember the first time that you joined a club in Xavier School. List two the things that you needed to do to become a part of the club.

We often want to belong to a group. In our own groups, we are given the chance to share our ideas, experiences and dreams. As one group, we support and take care of each other. In our Christian life, there is also a process of becoming a member of the Church. Do you know what is it?

What is the Sacrament of Baptism?

Why is Baptism called the foundation of the Christian life?

How and when did Jesus institute the Sacrament of Baptism?

Through Baptism, we join or begin our initiation into the Church.

It is the first step we make towards becoming a member of the Church.

Baptism is the very first sacrament we celebrate. In fact, we are unable to receive any other sacraments unless we receive this sacrament first.

The Ascension of Jesus

Go and make disciples to all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit... (Mt 28:19-20)

What happens when we get baptized? Is there any change that happens to us?

What happens to us after our Baptism?

We become members of

the Catholic Church.

We become children of God and followers of Christ

We receive the gift of new life in Christ that removes our the guilt of original sin and personal sin.

My Different Roles in Life

Through the Sacrament of Baptism, Jesus shares to us three special roles that He was able to do on earth. What are these special roles?

JESUS BAPTISM: Priest, Prophet and King

At Jesus Baptism
The anointing by the Holy Spirit established Jesus as Priest, Prophet and King.

As a Priest: He made the sacrifice no one else could. He gave up His life

As a Prophet: He delivered Gods message of love and forgiveness, truth and justice.

As a King: He cared for and served all the people. He is the Servant-King.

THROUGH OUR BAPTISM: We share in Priestly, Prophetic and Kingly Roles of Jesus

We Respond

How can we share in the Priestly, Prophetic and Kingly roles of Christ?

How can we share in the PRIESTLY ROLE? Pray daily. Participate in the Holy Eucharist. Perform acts of sacrifices. Offer our lives to God.

How can we share in the PROPHETIC ROLE? When we speak the truth about Jesus. When we act fairly and just.

How can we share in the KINGLY ROLE? Care for others, especially the poor and the suffering. Encourage others to say Yes! to Gods love. Speak and act properly.

We Pray
Our Father, thank you for welcoming us in your family. Jesus, our brother, help us to live out our role as prophets, priests and servant-kings. Holy Spirit, guide us to become faithful children of God and brothers of Christ. Amen.
