Description
The sermon was delivered on Sunday, August 13, 2017, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Barbara Prose, Executive Director of Ministry. SERMON DESCRIPTION This summer is the 200th anniversary of the birth of Henry David Thoreau, who said, “The fact is I am a mystic, a transcendentalist, and a natural philosopher to boot.” Friend of Ralph Waldo Emerson and inspiration to the conservation movement, Thoreau was known for advocating simple living, He was also active in the abolitionist movement and was openly critical of the government which led him to write Civil Disobedience in 1859. This Sunday as we aspire to put our spiritual values at the center of our imperfect lives, I’ll explore how Thoreau might be a role model for us today.
