CEMLI ANALYSIS PROCESS CEMLI is an acronym for Configurations, Extensions, Modifications, Localizations, and Integrations.

The term is used to collectively describe various types of customizations made to Oracle Applications. The idea is to perform a discovery of Customers application and database environment in order to assess the extent and level of customizations and modifications performed on the Oracle applications production instance. The reason why Oracle On Demand does this exercise is to evaluate as to how much effort would be required to migrate Customers existing instance into the On Demand data center. This process is divided into 3 steps: Step 1: CEMLI analysis is about collecting information about customers installed application instance by running a bunch of scripts against their production systems in order to get a current snapshot of their environment. We do this on a regular basis, and have had no problems with this approach. The scripts will run quickly, and do not put any noticeable load on the servers. If Customer has an exact and up-to-date clone of Customers production environment which they use for development or testing, we can run the scripts against that environment instead, if Customer prefers. However, to do this, the instance must be an exact and up-to-date clone of the production environment. To create these scripts for Customer to run, Oracle On Demand need some prior information like hostname, DB name, file structures, tier information etc. So Oracle On Demand will be sending Customer a excel sheet which would ask questions which Customers DBA can provide and also it has instructions to run a command which would generate some text file about Customers environments file systems. Customer need to send the excel file and the text output files back to Oracle On Demand. With the help of this data Oracle On Demand will create the CEMLI scripts required to collect data about Customers system. Step 2: Oracle On Demand will create the CEMLI scripts and send those back to Customer with instructions on execution. These scripts will scan the application file system and database instance (without intrusion) to identify modifications made to the baseline code. The running of these scripts will produce .pkg, .lst and .txt output files, which Customer will send back to Oracle On Demand. Step 3: Once Oracle On Demand receive the output files, Oracle On Demand will process them with the CEMLI Reporting System, which will analyze the data and produce a report listing all the customizations. Simultaneously Oracle On Demand will also send Customer another Excel sheet, which will request some detailed information about their existing environment and the methods used to integrate Oracle applications with other data sources or applications. Step 4: Oracle On Demand will then discuss the output of the CEMLI reporting system and the integration spread sheet with Customer and find a way to clean up the system as well as how best can we integrate system with external applications or data sources.
