Sports Broadcasting: Definition: The broadcasting of sports events is the coverage of sports as a television program, on radio and other

broadcasting media. It usually involves one or more sports commentators describing the events as they happen. Scale/size Sports Broadcasting is massive across the world and in England. In England Football is the main focus of sports broadcasting. Channels battle for the right to broadcast games and events by essentially auctioning events and giving them to the highest bidder. Its hard to say but Sky as a whole reported a 27% rise in pre-tax profit to 597m for the last six months of 2011. As this figure shows Sky are doing extremely well and a large prtion of this would be down to people wanting Sky for the Sports section. Who else do they compete with? Sky sports are competing against Virgin Media, which is also a well-known company in the broadcasting industry, for their cheap prices and good quality broadcasting. They also compete with ESPN.
