Beaker S.F.

DRUMS/PERCUSSION Paddy Fingers BASS & VOCALS Dylan Frost VOCALS & GUITAR Seamus (Red Thunder) GUITAR Freddy Fish (sometimes) KEYS BACKSTORY: The four piece Newtown misfits are misspending their youth while we watch. And it's as colourful as that review suggests: a melodic, mega-hectic, mash of psychedelic, pop and roots. Music to throw shapes to. THE Sydney based four piece (sometimes 5 piece), are delivering a refreshing vibe to Australian music. The band began their rise when drummer, Beaker and bass player Paddy Fingers, met busker Dylan Frost one night in early 09 outside the Coopers Arms hotel in Newtown. Dylan, fresh from N.Z. was on the streets with his guitar busking for coin outside the pub. We met him, Patty says, when the Coopers Arms bouncer started hassling us and telling us we should give him some money. Frosts melodic sense brings the Kiwi spirit and melodic lineage to the band. Frost, the youngest member of the band (the rest of the band are 20), has 19 years of life and a hundred years of heartbreak in his voice. And the band surround it in textural and psyche-y, atmospheric melodies punched out by the Sticky Fingers rhythm sections blunt sound scapes. The band began 2012 with a bang. A weirdly whack, worship filled 2.45am New Years eve gig at Woodford Festival that had all the hallmarks of some sort of overly devoted, out of control cult. And they haven't slowed down since. They bolted out on the road in early 2012 for a 32 date 2Quetilaz tour late Feb, staying out until April and selling out venues from the Indi bar in WA to the Sol Bar in Qld. They then went back out on the road for the Megaphonic mini tour again in June, once again selling out the Sol Bar and packing venues thru SA, and up the East Coast to Qld. RECORDING: The band's first mini album, (the ironically titled), Extended Play was released on Oct 30 2010. For their first release, in April 2010, they went into Megaphon studios and re-recorded Inspirational, Juicy Ones and Murderous Nerves, the best songs from their earlier demos. Next was a limited edition Sticky acoustic recording, in amongst the musical ghosts of the Annandale....Happy Endings. Sti Fi had been promising to make it since they toured nationally with Donavan Frankenreiter and in January 2012 finally gave it to its fans. Happy Endings scored great support around the country and internationally, picking up a stack of JJJ and Unearthed play in the months following its Oct release and June 2012 and introducing Sticky to a wider audience. Happy Endings has also just gone out on a compilation in the U.S.with Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zero's and abunch of other choice U.S. new comers. Now back, singing about feeling low and getting high, the band has recently recorded a stack of demo's. In the short amount of downtime between April and the start of June the Stickys have been hard at work getting the songs together for their next release. Caress Your Soul the bands first single from their upcoming debut album coming out in October 2012. Look out for their new release: FRACTURED coming soon
