Future Trend Smart Grid and Clean Energy

The smart grid construction will remarkably promote the ability of power grid to sustain clean energy.
With strong Smart Grid, integrated hydropower capacity could reach 350 GW and the integrated wind power would be 150 GW by 2020. In Traditional Grid, integrated hydropower capacity would be 300 GW and the integrated wind power would only be 70 GW by 2020.

Voices from Chinese Government

On Sept. 22, 2009, President Hu Jintao spoke at the United nations climate change summit that: We'll strive to increase the share of nonfossil fuels in primary energy consumption to around 15% by 2020 .

On Nov. 25, 2009, executive meeting of the State Council announced that we will reduce carbon emission per unit of GDP by 40-45% compared with 2005 level. In REPORT ON THE WORK OF THE GOVERNMENT in 2010 and 2011Premier Wen Jiabao pointed out that the smart grid construction should be strengthenned in rows.

On Mar. 16. 2011, the Twelfth Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development of the Peoples Republic of China indicated the development of ultra-high voltage, high-capacity, high-efficiency and longdistance modern transmission technology and the improvement of smart grid construction based on advanced information, control and energystorage technologies

Development strategy of Clean Energy The state strategic target by 2020 is to limit the carbon emission under 9.5-10.4 billion tons. A reduction of 6.9-7.8 billion tons is needed.
It is expected that, after the strong smart grid construction is completed in 2020, A carbon emission reduction of 738 million tons will be done in the business area of SGCC, which is 9% 11% of the carbon reduction target and 24.2% of the carbon reduction potential of power industry.
