May 14, 2011 Laura the Highland Hussy rated it I received this wonderful book as an ARC from Netgalley.com I adored this book. I fell in love with Juliana in Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake, and in Eleven Scandals, the young woman she becomes does not disappoint.

When we first met Juliana in Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake, we met an impetuous unsure young lady who wasnt sure she wanted a place in society. Juliana was fantastic, and pa prove she didn't care what the ton thought of her. But too bad she kind of did care.

Simon, "Duke of Disdain," wanted nothing to do with Juliana and her scandalous behavior. Everywhere Juliana went, scandal seemed to follow...and Simon kept getting caught in the aftermath. P reputation, felt he could ill afford to be associated with such a common girl, sister of a marquess or not. I loved when Juliana called him an ass in Italian, but then repeated it for him in English! Th always engaging and well-done. Oh! And we got to find out what it was Simon said to Juliana at the ball in Nine Rules that had her finally deciding on staying in England to prove how wrong eve

I want this to be spoiler-free, so I can't go into much detail, but I think the point when Simon finally realized that Juliana did not purposely create scandals just to irritate him really made me fall fo to that epiphany? Oh man, I was soo furious for the St. John family and for (especially for) Juliana. Bravo for Simon checking up on Juliana after all that. I think that is really where I began to wan his-place, and more of a true romance between them.

Speaking of romance, oh the romance in this book. The magic that is Juliana and Simon had me frantically flipping pages to see how they would overcome their obstacles. And the way that they wonderful and I wanted to be Juliana so I could feel that way. The Guy Fawkes day bonfire was so romantic and...sad. Yep, I said sad. I think that was where both Juliana and Simon realized th happy ending. But the way Simon came back to Juliana was so wonderful, and it broke my heart to see how the ball ended.

But their story amazes and enthralls and wraps the reader up and holds you until the end. At that point I was so sad that the story was over. I wish I could forget this book just so I could have th reading it for the first time again. Sarah MacLean brings the magic.

Sarah MacLean has created such a fabulous and vivid cast with her "Love by Numbers" series and I know I will re-read this book many times. In fact, netgalley only lends the ARC out for 60 d though I have my own deadlines and other responsibilities. http://www.demonloversbooksandmore.co...(less) like 27 likes see review

Even though I spent a great deal of time wanting to throttle Simon, I just couldnt hate him, and I loved Juliana!! I also enjoyed all the sexy tension between Juliana and Simon, and I loved watchi other, resisting and falling in love. However this story also broke my heart several times, because sometimes love isnt enough. I also really liked MacLeans writing style, when I wasnt reading this book, I was thinking about it. After reading Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rakeand Ten Ways to Be Adored When Landing a Lord I was excited to hear about the third book in Sarah MacLeans Love By Num Scandals to Start to Win a Dukes Heart and man was I totally blown away by this awesome romance novel! Full of excitement, forbidden pleasures and pure love making scenes, this novel wi time!

Juliana Fiori, the Italian half sister of Nick and Gabriel Ralston, is a strong and independent woman who refuses to follow the strict rules of London society and therefore has become a huge topic gossipmongers of London. Things get even more complicated when Juliana meets up with the disdainful Duke of Leighton, Simon Pearson and she eventually tries to prove to the duke about wha

After reading the second book, Ten Ways to Be Adored When Landing a Lord, I will admit that I was a little skeptical in reading the third of the Love by Numbers series, but after seeing my f and how many positive compliments I keep hearing about this book, I decided to give this book a shot anyway. Lo and behold, I found myself loving this book every second and I was a little up end. Sarah MacLean has done an excellent job at writing this brilliant story about a forbidden love between two lovers who came from two different worlds, but would do anything to be togethe Sarah MacLeans writing is how she develops the characters in this book and my favorite characters out of this entire book would have to be the main couple Juliana Fiori and Simon Pearson, a characters that I had previously loved in previous books! At this point, Juliana Fiori is my absolute favorite heroine in any historical romance novel! I just loved the way that Juliana stood up for w society is against her and I really loved how devoted she was to having passion in her life, especially when it concerns Simon Pearson, which I will now get to! Simon Pearson, the Duke of Leigh second book of the Love by Numbers series and at first, I did not like him because of his arrogant and disdainful nature, but after I read this book, I really came to love Simon! What I really lo always get so tongued tied whenever he is around Juliana and when he is being romantic around Juliana, whew he is something else entirely! I also loved that fact that he is described as being mu got my hero senses tingling and after I heard of Simons tragic story about how he had to keep up with societys expectations of him, it truly showed a caring side to Simon that we were never ex Sarah MacLean brought back some of the older characters shown in previous books which includes Gabriel and Nick Ralston, Callie, and Isabel and it was nice seeing them with their loved one company. I also loved the plot of the story as it sort of has a Romeo and Juliet feel since Juliana and Simon are held back from seeing each other because of their families and how they tried to the consequences they would suffer if they remained together and let us not forget the love making scenes between Juliana and Simon as they are hot and sizzling and will set your soul on fire! For those of you who do not like sex scenes, there are plenty of sex scenes in this book, so it would be best to skim over these scenes.

Overall out of all the books I have read in Sarah MacLeans popular Love by Numbers series, Eleven Scandals to Start to Win a Dukes Heart is my absolute favorite and I definitely think t definitely get a huge kick out of this book! Also, I hope that there is a fourth book in the series, because I want to see what becomes of Georgiana and Callies brother! Review is also on: Rabbit Ears Book Blog (less) like 14 likes see review

I was really uncertain about whether or not I would like this book. The first book in the series was a big hit for me, but the second book was a letdown. I loved the tension between Simon and Ju the second Simon crossed over from being cold and arrogant (which is not necessarily a bad thing) into an outright ass. His behavior of a certain family member severely dropped his appeal in m this, but the first chapter sucked me in right away, so my hopes started to rise.

I was really into the book in the first half. Juliana and Simon sparred back and forth and the tension was high. Simons coldness didnt bother me as much as it might have bothered others. what he desired and what he was raised to believe was right. It was fun to see him get swept into situations he would have preferred to avoid, all because he couldnt resist Juliana (or Julianas ch

I loved getting a deeper look at Juliana. Her situation was pretty tragic. No matter what she did or how well she behaved, she couldnt help but stand apart from the rest of the ton. She had my s said, she didnt try very hard to behave. I know that its hard to want to curry favor with the very people who sneer at you, but putting yourself into scandalous situations again and again, and the youre scandalous, is pretty stupid. Dont get me wrong, I enjoyed watching the fallout after the situations combusted, but my sympathy about the ton misjudging her started to wane.

I knew going into this book that Simon would need a lot of growth to get beyond his upbringing. I felt very bad for how it must have been growing up in that family, but that doesnt change the fa But I was expecting to see that. What I wasnt expecting was to see so much growth needed in Juliana as well. In the last couple books it was very apparent that she was untutored in the ways o life and a tad wild, but she never seemed as immature as she did in this one. Simon was absolutely right when he said that she was like a child, never looking beyond the moment.

Although I enjoyed the beginning of the book (and found it very quotable), I felt that it began to peter out in the second half. The banter stopped and it felt like we were spinning in circles. Also, once Simon stopped being cold and caring he became so sweet and emotive that it was ridiculous. Every time he called her Siren I had a hard time resisting the urge to roll my eyes. good public demonstration of feelings as much as the next girl, but that combined with the rest of his totally uncharacteristic behavior made me wince for him. The book got so sugary that I practi reading it.

I dont usually have a problem going with the flow when Im enjoying a book, but as my interest begins to dim I have a hard time not noticing things that make no sense. One of the biggest things absurd I found it that Simon was so worried about the scandal crippling his family name. He was a duke. They werent a dime a dozen, and they outranked pretty much all other nobles. society as a whole would still curry favor with you. Because you were a duke, for Christs sake. So how exactly would that situation ruin the family name instead of just giving it a couple dents? Although I only really loved one book in this trilogy, I still plan to pick up this authors next work. I enjoy her style of writing and if I can find another gem like the first book then itll be worth it. Favorite Quotes: "Why must you constantly test me?" "I do care, you know. I do care what you think." "Then why?" "Because you expect me to fail. You expect me to do wrong. To be reckless. To ruin myself." "Why not work to prove me wrong?" "But don't you see? I am proving you wrong. If I choose recklessness, where is the failure? If I choose it for myself, you cannot force it upon me." *For a sneak peek, check out my Tempting Teaser on Fiction Vixen* (less) like 10 likes see review

We first meet the lovely, feisty, bold, impulsive Juliana Fiori as she is thrust in London society into the care of her twin half brothers, w and vice versa, in Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake and we get a couple glimpses of Simon, Duke of Leighton. We get to see more of her yummy brother Gabriel and Nick and their reaction to certain situations involving their sister and this stuck up duke, priceless

Eleven Scandals to Start to Win a Duke's Heart (Love By Numbers, #3) by Sarah MacLean - Reviews,

I could prattle on and on about this wonderful book but really, all you need to do is read it and savor it. Sit outside one afternoon with some wine and just enjoy it. I personally loved Nine Rules Rake and it is what started my new obsession with the historical romance genre, and while Ten Ways to Be Adored When Landing a Lord was good, it just was not as good as Nine Rules. Oh b may be my new favorite now...I just can not quite decide. All three are on my keeper shelf though and I am sad to see an end to this series and these characters. I was hoping Callies brother got is working on a new book, I really hope he is featured sometime! I have no complaints for this book except I wanted more, not a bad thing to want :) I first read this book when I got the ebook skim it a bit to refresh the details and it was still just as good. I can not wait to purchase my own copy and read it again and again. It is that type of book, something to make you smile, laugh, sigh duke. 5 wonderful stars!! Jul 14, 2011 KatLynne rated it Shelves: need-to-purchase, g-historical-romance, made-me-laugh, sensual-steamy, library-book, keeper, series-maclean-love-by-numbers, 2011-reads Another great installment in the Love By Numbers Series. I love the way Sarah MacLean weaves her story around intelligent, witty characters and their banter always holds my attention from the like it when a romance novel makes me laugh, and there were some laugh out loud moments for me in this one!

This is the 3rd installment and I loved it! Juliana Fiori is full of spunk and character. This beautiful young Italian is bold, impetuous, intelligent, quick witted, and the exact opposite of the English gi the ton say she is too brash and believe she is a scandal waiting to happen. She most always is found as the target of their brutal gossip and it appears she will never be accepted into the realm of reputation and security are the most important aspects of their world.

And our swoon worthy hero, Simon Pearson, Duke of Leighton, is the top contender for criticizing our young heroine. This stuffy, snobbish duke (often referred to as the Duke of Disdain) believ because of his aristocratic birth. His main focus is to keep his title free of any scandal, causing him to be obsessed with propriety and his reputation! And as Juliana is the opposite of everything S wants to stay far away from this magnet for trouble, a commoner well beneath him! But as the story goes, things happen and the bold, impetuous Juliana finds herself in a challengeshe wants two weeks to prove that even this proper, unfeeling duke is not above passion. teach her a lesson in propriety!

This is where I asked myself why this lovely young woman, full of passion for life would want to expose herself to this proper, arrogant, unmoving man; one who rejects the beautiful and exciting soon are revealed and one of those being Simon is devastatingly handsome! Tall, strong, broad & muscular with a voice like whisky and velvetjust smelting hot! And as angry as I became at S and his arrogant snobbery, the story progressed and I saw a different Simon, one that I came to admire and love.

I loved this beautifully written and poignant story from the very first pages. Sarah Maclean sure knows how to use her words! And just as in her past works, the banter between these two is incre heroine have past and present scars and my heart became completely engaged in Julianas plight. I wanted her to succeed and be accepted for who she was not for who she could be made int her to be loved, admired and respected for all her wonderful attributes!

And as for Simon, well, there were times I wanted to shake some sense into him or yell really loud at him and I found myself judging him quite harshly for his stiff, proper arrogance and his totally talented author would reveal more details from his past or he would say or do something so endearing, that I found myself slowing falling in love with him. For underneath this faade is a man full witty, full of honor and soon has a great weakness for our heroine! By the end, he was completely redeemed for me and I wanted him to have his HEA. I would certainly be remiss if I left out the sensuality that is woven throughout this story. From the very beginning there is a continuance of strong sexual desire, along with denial and resistance. protectiveness, tenderness and need.

Another added delight is getting to visit again with Gabriel & Nicholas St John, Julianas half brothers, along with their wives, all of whom we had met in the previous books. There is new informa updates on others we had previously met and a surprise visit from a newcomer. And the ending along with the epilog is superb.. Well done Ms. Maclean! I anxiously await your next release!

There are so many sigh worthy moments in this one:) Below are just a few of my favorites. (view spoiler) (less) like 8 likes see review

Excellent! Excellent! Excellent! Loved it! As simple as that! This was the third book of a brilliant series and was by far the best of them! When I read Nine Rules To Break When Romancing A R romance couldnt get betterbut this one was awesome in its refreshing kind.

Miss Juliana Fiori is the illegitimate rebellious sister of the Marquess of Ralston. She happens to be the perfect match of a former notorious rake of a brother, striving to gain a rather accepting po of the London aristocratic society. But alas, the society in turn is harsh on her, judging and criticizing her actions and behaviors at every turn. The Duke of Leighton, for whom she has an unwante different. He is the perfect picture of aristocracy and the epitome of nobility England has seen. He knows it and intends to preserve it. She loathes his lofty behavior towards commoners and henc irk his statute of serenity for once.

Juliana is reckless and mischievous in her innocent ways. She is beautiful and playful. NOT a good combination for a cold haughty duke to keep on having his steely composure for good. Simon of Leighton. He is often called the duke of Disdain, which is a worthy title he received from the ton. He wishes to ignore Juliana. He finds her annoying and against everything that he stands for. behavior the duke is suddenly finding himself with Juliana at every turn, rescuing her with unanticipated warmth from what he thinks will clearly destroy her. Juliana, who knows the duke to be cyn cannot ignore the overwhelming attraction to the sinfully handsome and powerful Simon.

She knows he is the one man whom she can never have as much as he knows she is the one woman he will never have. So why there might be a very good chance of having their own exclusive l the sin of falling in love to the most polar of opposite to their persons? Who will be punished for such a crime? Will it be the haughty duke who has nothing to do with commoners and everything his reputation and his status in society? Or, will it be the young and mischievous commoner herself whose motto in life is to loathe and stay as much as away from the English aristocracy?

I loved Eleven Scandals To Start To Win A Duke better than I liked Ten Ways to Be Adored When Landing a Lord. Simon was awesome! * Sigh*! I adored Julianas character and the way S English in both light and grave situations. Just like most readers, I highly recommend it too!!! May 03, 2011 Mandi Schreiner rated it Shelves: historical, favorite-2011 Favorite Quote: You are a scandal waiting to happen. Although this is the third book in the trilogy, its the first I read and it works perfectly as a stand alone. This book is so well written, I dont see how it wont capture your heart.

Simon, Duke of Leighton or nicknamed the Duke of Disdain made my insides flutter. He is the cold, impenetrable duke who lives his life as he was raised emotionless and bred for his title. H portrays the perfect duke. But he has a secret (one Im not going to spoil) and because of this, he must marry the perfect duchess before this secret comes out to the ton. So he sets his eyes up unblemished reputation although there is no romance between them.

But there is a vibrant force in his world that refuses to go away. Juliana Fiori has no title, only a marquess for a brother. From Italy, her mother is a former marchioness who left her titled English married an Italian merchant, resulting in Juliana. Then, her mother ran out on her, leaving her with her father. Now that her father has passed, she is forced to seek out her half brothers back in En this has resulted in a great scandal surrounding Juliana. She is invited to ton events because of her brothers, but the gossip mill is running in full force. She also doesnt have the proper etiquette of mind quite loudly. When she first meets Simon, he is led to believe she is titled, and a proper lady and he is immediately enamored. But when he finds out who she really is, the daughter of a runa offended. He cant be seen with the likes of her. But she wont go away.

He is drawn to her. Attracted to her. And little by little, she breaks down his faade. Juliana is just a fabulous heroine. She has a slight language barrier that has her using the wrong words in certa charming. He called me a pie! She announced, defensively. There was a pause. Wait. Thats not right. A tart? Yes! Thats it! She registered her brothers fists and looked to Simon. I see that it is not a compliment. It was hard for him to hear over the roaring in his ears. Hed like to take a fist to the man himself. No. It is not. She keeps finding herself thrown into these situations that embarrass her, and keep her the talk of the season which is humorous. Simon wants to ignore her and pretend she doesnt exist, but by Julianas part, she becomes part of his life. And we are treated to these little tidbits from their conscious throughout the book that I love:

Eleven Scandals to Start to Win a Duke's Heart (Love By Numbers, #3) by Sarah MacLean - Reviews,

Desire slammed through him hard and fast, and he stiffened at the blinding emotion. He did not want her. She was a madwoman. A stunning, goddess of a madwoman. He cleared his throat. Nevertheless.

What I love is that both Simon and Juliana become so frustrated with their station in life. As they are reminded endlessly, Reputation triumphs. Simon has a duty, not only being an esteemed du from the public. And Juliana was born into a scandal and that leaves her no leeway in the eyes of the public. She is terrified of becoming her mother, and lives her life finding herself in endless sca both have accepted their fate, but this yearning for the other starts to take over their lives. It is done with such an exquisite, sensual tone by Sarah MacLean to the point you are not going to wa have to keep reading to see how these two overcome society to be together. Plus you have to read for the very smexy love scenes: This kiss was an exploration.

It sought and found, chased and captured. It was a kiss that suggested they had an eternity during which to learn each other, and when his tongue ran roughsmooth across her bottom lip, sending rocketing through her, she hoped they did have an eternity. Surely it would take that long for her to tire of this. Of him. She gasped at the feel of him, so powerful, so wicked. The dialog is fast and witty, the romance is intense and the characters are vibrant and sexy. One of the best romances I have read this year. Rating: A(less) like 6 likes see review

Mar 17, 2011 Michelle, the Bookshelf Stalker rated it Shelves: arc-or-netgalley, genre-historical-romance Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake simply stole my heart. I LOVED that book. Ten Ways to Be Adored When Landing a Lord was okay but didn't wow me. In fact, I didn't know i series after book 2. Eleven Scandals to Start to Win a Duke's Heart made me love this series all over again. If you haven't read book 1, or book 2, there might be small spoilers in my review. You have been warned. Before the book: Simon is a jackass. He is a snob, a jerk, thinks he is better than everyone and deserves to die a lonely old man for what he did to his sister. After the book: Simon is wonderful. That's all folks. That sums up my review.(less) like 14 likes see review

Sarah MacLean has never failed to entertain me with her Love By Numb herself with this book. I loved Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake and Ten Ways to be Adored When Landing a Lord and, somehow, I ended up loving all of her characters, but t heaven as a 367 page book could get!

Before I read this book, if you had asked me, I would have told you that I loved Gabriel and I loved Nick but Simon I didn't really care about because he was a snob. After reading this, howeve favorite hero of this series. Not only is he extraordinarily sexy and smart and adorable, but he has grown the most, in my opinion. wife. Nick went from being a man with his heart closed off from love after being hurt by every woman in his life to a man desperately in love. But Simon...Simon went from being the Duke of Dis Cost to a man who was willing to acknowledge his sister's illegitimate child and who stopped a ball he was uninvited to just so he could tell Juliana he loves her. While all three of them have go transformations, I felt that Simon's was the largest, most profound, and most interesting to witness. Suffice it to say, I want the man's babies. He is so sexy and sweet and annoying, and I just love

Like with Simon, this book has provided me with my favorite heroine of the series. I have loved Juliana since the first book, but Callie has been my favorite since Nine Rules. Now however...Juli was a real person, she's one of the very few people I would consider becoming a lesbian for. She's so smart and sexy and funny. Her insecurities only make her more endearing, even as I want t is so much better than she thinks. Juliana is a complex character and I completely love those. She is brash and confident, yet insecure and unsure. Also, I love that she always messes up English i lost in translation; she reminded me of Ziva from NCIS.

As usual, I adored the appearances and comical situations involving the wonderful cast of characters: Gabe, Nick, Isabel, Callie, and Georgiana. Also, I was happy to see Benedick again too! I He is so cute.

As a side note, I just want to take a moment to comment on how much I love the titles of this series. They are so catchy and funny! And they rhyme! I love that!

So, as I'm sure is evident, I loved this book and I love this series. I know I will most likely be rereading it many times in my life. And, because of this series, if I ever have twin boys, I am naming Obsessive, I know, but hilarious all the same.

I got this as an ARC from NetGalley.(less) like 7 likes see review

Sep 16, 2011 Jacqueline marked it as did-not-finish review of another edition Shelves: read-in-2011, for-review, ebook, to-re-read, historical-romance Well written, but I couldn't get past my hatred of the hero, Simon. He was irredeemably pompous and a huge hypocrite. I especially despised that he was the main person that continually made J inadequate for simply being herself. It's too bad really, because I really enjoyed MacLean's previous two in this series, especially Nick's book, Ten Ways to Be Adored When Landing a Lord like 1 like see review

May 27, 2012 lia rated it Shelves: historical-romance Best book of all three.

We met Juliana and Simon "Duke of Disdain" in the previous two books. They are attracted to each other at first sight, but Simon believes that Juliana is far below her because she is a barely leg Italian merchant. Having a Marquess for a brother doesn't help her much in social standing. But Juliana dare him that she will bring him to his knees and Simon agree to give her two weeks to try knowing all the time that he is going to propose to his perfect English bride.

Simon is desperately trying to marry to a perfect bride to cover up the scandal of her 17 years old pregnant sister who barely out to the society. So with scandal hanging over his family's head, he Juliana's attempts. Though Juliana throws a dare to Simon, she has her doubt. She is afraid that she will become like her mother, a woman who didn't hesitate on turning her back on her children. She also believes that she is not good enough for him.

It is quite entertaining, though Simon got on my nerve sometimes with his believes that as a Duke the world should bow to him. But i think it is time appropriate, that on that time, being an aristocr

Apr 08, 2012 Beanbag Love rated it I can't stand the romance heroine who's hot-headed, stubborn, self-centered, childish ... it's a character type in novels that I simply hate. I knew from the prior two books that I would have a pro ever.

I have issues with this character type for a few reasons. 1) They're selfish and annoying, 2) It's the kind of thing historical romance authors always do to women who are not English. Especially to They're always brash and calling everyone...more like 7 likes see review

I cannot say enough about this book - I don't even know where to start! It was wonderful and so much fun to read. It was deep and multilayered and thought provoking. Jan 07, 2012 MandyM rated it Shelves: historical-romance The most enjoyable part of this book are (Italian-born) Juliana's hilariously incorrect translations of English expressions: "He called me a pie! No. It is not.

Unfortunately however, Juliana is a bit of a 'pie'! The story is about the illegitimate, scandal ridden Juliana, and Simon, the Duke of Leighton, who values image and reputation above all. Juliana fo coerces him into all sorts of bad behaviour and finally turns up stark naked in his room (even though he's engaged to another woman). When he finally starts to come round she suddenly decides deserves because he only thinks of her as a scandal. (I wonder why!) For me the two MC's were both silly and inconsistent. It's a nice enough story but the premise was drawn out way too long like see review

Jul 27, 2011 Sarah rated it review of another edition Shelves: 2011, reviewed This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. Okay, this was much better than the last one. Third in a series, this one features Juliana Fiori, illegitimate siste and his twin, falls into a stormy relationship with Simon, the Duke of Leighton who values image and reputation over all. If you've read the last book in the series, you know that's going to be a pr secretly being knocked up and unwed was one of the plot devices (ineffectively) used to move that one along. Anyway, they get along about as well as you might expect given her background an despite the fact that they're both hopelessly attracted to each other. There are some interesting plot twists: Juliana's ne'er do well mother turns up at one point and Leighton gets to be somewhat l even if it's not necessarily by means of his own choosing.

It's not a bad little series by any means, although you can definitely see the author learning her craft as she goes. The first is definitely the best, though. I'd like to see her try her hand at some stand suspect there may be a Twelve Things to Do When Looking For Your Sweet Baboo on the horizon before that, though. I just don't see her leaving Simon's sister in a relatively unresolved posi you've already started the series. I think MacLean could be really good in time, she has that more modern, irreverent voice that I enjoy lately, and I think she's worth supporting to see if she can like see review
