SS. Cyril & Methodius Parish United in Faith Did He Ever Stay Home And Cook?
All of Us - #550
Fr. Larry
Like One Big Catholic Flash Mob A huge thank you goes out to all of our parishioners that showed up on Monday to help us make the transition over to the gym for our summer Masses. I was honestly overwhelmed and very proud by the response and willingness of so many offering to volunteer their time and muscle. The children in our Parish School carried over all of the missalettes and hymnals. About a dozen 7th graders worked like busy little bees in the morning bringing over many of the liturgical supplies from our sacristy; things like vestments, albs, stoles, chalices, hosts and baskets. In the evening, a holy army of angels, about 60 folks marched into church, and in less than a half hour, everything was cleared away and put in its proper place faster than the grounds crew workers who pull the tarp off of the infield after a rain delay. Thanks again to all who made it so easy. What a great relief! Yes, you will all be invited back again in midAugust when we have to bring everything back to church. Happier Than Mona Lisa Our gym was built by Fr. Julius Gilewski in 1960. His picture hangs to the right of the stage. Before the 7:00 AM morning Mass on Tuesday, I studied his portrait for a while. If you look closely, you can detect a subtle smirk that symbolically mirrors his quiet and private style of leadership as a pastor. I have a hunch that Fr. Gilewski is enjoying the fact that we are using the very place that he built for something sacred and reverent these next nine weeks. We are grateful to him and the other benefactors of our parish who blessed us with the facilities we have today. Go Ahead and Sneak a Peak I thought it would be a good idea that while we are celebrating Masses in the gym over the summer, after our Sunday Masses, folks can walk across the street and see whats happening in church. Because of insurance reasons, we do ask that you view the church from the vestibule only. This way you can see the progress being made every week. I personally find it exciting and fascinating to watch the work be done day-by-day by those who are professionals in their field. For the next several weeks we will also include pictures in our bulletin as well.
Did you ever notice in the gospel stories that Jesus ate out a lot? He loved going over to Marthas house and spending time relaxing with his close friends Mary and Lazarus. He cleverly invited himself over to Zacheuss place to help him see the light when he was struggling with the dark night of a soul. Talk about a real come to Jesus moment, He multiplied the loaves and the fishes when people forgot to pack a lunch before they set out on their day-trip. He enjoyed going to wedding receptions with his Mom. You begin to wonder if Jesus ever liked staying home and fending for himself. Did he have any good recipes to share with his apostles? A herb crusted walleye maybe? Maybe the gospels are hinting to us that the presence of Jesus cannot be confined to just one place. Also, and more importantly, it seems to be strongly implied that one of the best ways to connect with people is in the context of a meal, when often the best parts of life are shared. Years ago I was asked by the owners of a new restaurant to bless their place of business before it opened to the public. I remember driving to the restaurant and thinking about all the things that were going to happen at the tables inside, besides the fact that folks would certainly be eating some good Italian food. I thought about the young couples that would walk into the restaurant and, after a coupe of hours of shared admiration and a bottle of wine, walk out engaged to each other. I thought of those who would go out to eat because what was behind their reservation was a bitter falling out and that they wanted to reconcile and move on. I thought of those who would sit at these very tables in the restaurant with heavy hearts because of the fact that they just lost a loved one. A lot goes on when people gather together for a meal. Theres a lot of love that we receive at Mass, because the Body of Christ is the real presence of Jesus blessed, broken and shared with us. The Body and Blood of Christ Today we joyfully celebrate the feast of Corpus Christi, the Body and Blood of Christ. The Eucharist that we are asked to be present for every Sunday, is a special communion we share with our Risen Lord. Pope John Paul II writes Eucharistic worship is the expression of love that springs up within us from the Eucharist that love which is the authentic and deepest characteristic of the Christian vocation. As Catholics we never really worship alone. At the Eucharistic liturgy, we gather with the young and the old,

the rich and the poor, as well as millions around the world and the saints in heaven, to celebrate Christs sacrifice. This powerful reality reminds us that, in the words of Pope John Paul II, A truly Eucharistic community cannot be closed in upon itself. I pray that a large part of our Catholic spirituality and identity will always be rooted in our gathering for the Sunday Eucharist. I hope it is something that we do not lose in the years to come. We need to see the value of coming together as Gods family around the table of the Lord so that we can be fed over and over again for our journey of faith. Jesus truly misses us when we are not present. Our souls hunger for the Bread of Life that only Jesus can provide. Everything else falls short. May our Amen that we say today, proclaim our hope and trust in the Risen Lord who feeds us with his very self. Real Clean! Below are a few picures of our teens in action. Youth Ministrys car wash raised around $1,500 to help fund their summer mission trip to St. Louis. Thanks to all who supported the event.

Dear Parents, On Monday, June 4th we celebrated our closing Mass for the 2011-2012 school year. Following Communion the Board of Specified Jurisdiction helped us acknowledge Mrs. Virginia Flaherty for 25 years of service, Mrs. Mary Grabowski and Mrs. Joan Witt for 20 years of service, Mrs. Mary Jo Marzalik for 15 years of service, and Mrs. Sue Maggenti, Mrs. Mary Lee Reilley, Mrs. Trish Rogers, and Mrs. Amy Selfridge for 10 years of service. We all thank and congratulate them for their commitment to our school and to Catholic Education. We also acknowledged Mrs. Sharon Drake who is retiring after teaching kindergarten in our school for 27 years. Our entire community congratulates and wishes her well. Mrs. Drake will be deeply missed by students, parents, and staff. Thank you to the parish for your continued support of our school and for working with us during the year. The school staff and I hope you enjoy and relax during the time away! Just a few reminders: Our office will be open until June 14th between the hours of 9:00 AM and Noon to receive your registration materials. They can also be returned to the rectory. We will also offer the option of returning your materials when we host Registration Days on August 7th and 8th in Fr. Sivore Hall. Mrs. S. Tkachuk, Principal We have a need for a few more adult volunteers so we can have a one-on-one friendship for each of our friends with developmental and intellectual challenges, autism spectrum disorders, cerebral palsy and learning problems who are anxious for the SPRED ministry to begin. But we also want to know the families in our parish no matter the age or abilities of their son/daughter. There will be a SPRED Informational Gathering on Monday, June 11th, 6:30 PM in our rectory meeting room. Many of us are so busy that we dont experience quiet in our lives. That is where God can relate to us. SPRED is a community of fellow parishioners who seek the quiet, want to share their faith, want to be with people with special needs. The SPRED program gives you an opportunity for this. When you are refreshed and renewed, then you are better able to give to others. Please consider learning more.

Food Waste
On April 18, 2012 the Tribune had an article on food waste. In 2010 Jeremy Seifert made a film about food waste called, Dive. The film reported some interesting things. North American consumers make more food waste than anyone else on the planet.today record number of people rely on food stamps while the country throws away a whopping 40% of its food. And yet, one billion people are malnourished while a third of the worlds food is thrown away. Major food wasters are restaurants and grocery stores. But there is considerable food wasted in homes as well. And something can be done about both things. Food waste makes up about 20 percent of our waste stream, and when its bagged and tossed in the land fill it leaks methane, a gas that is 21 times more destructive to the ozone than carbon dioxide, according to the EPA. But if the food was instead compostedas only 3 percent isit could produce soil enriching compost rather than methane. So what are some things that can be done individually to reduce this problem? i Plan your weekly meals and buy only what you can cook before it spoils. i Shop like you have a small refrigerator. The fact is our refrigerators are too full. We can lose things in the back of the refrigerator. i Eat down your refrigerator. Sort through what you already have and challenge yourself to make dinner from it. More tips next week.

The presidential and congressional elections are on the horizon, November 6, 2012. The bishops have stated that being an informed voter is the duty of every Catholic citizen. How are you to do that? There are several options, the radio, the newspaper, news magazines, your favorite website, the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops (USCCB.org) and many other options. Faithful Citizenship involves being informed on a subject, not just hearing someone elses opinion or a news blurb but actually informing yourself. "Responsible citizenship is a virtue, and participation in political life is a moral obligation."-- Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship Our nation faces political challenges that demand urgent moral choices. We are a nation at war, with all of its human costs; a country often divided by race and ethnicity; a nation of immigrants struggling with immigration. We are an affluent society where too many live in poverty; part of a global community confronting terrorism and facing urgent threats to our environment; a culture built on families, where some now question the value of marriage and family life. We pride ourselves on supporting human rights, but we fail even to protect the fundamental right to life, especially for unborn children. We bishops seek to help Catholics form their consciences in accordance with the truth, so they can make sound moral choices in addressing these challenges. We do not tell Catholics how to vote. The responsibility to make political choices rests with each person and his or her properly formed conscience. From Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship As the election date approaches there will be a series of articles with current topics as well as encouragement from the Bishops. The Bishops ask every citizen be informed and active. Handicap platform wheelchair lift free for pickup. Excellent condition, lightly used, Macs Lift Gate PL-50 Vertical Home Wheelchair Lift.
