All of Us - #549
Fr. Larry
A Really Beautiful Day Deacon Mike called me from the golf course last week. He just finished playing in our Parish Golf Outing in the morning. That day I couldnt join him because I was committed to celebrating two funeral Masses here at St. Cyrils. I was working. He was playing. Thats life. Thankfully, Deacon Mike just slightly teased me about his good fortune. It was a beautiful day and the weather was perfect to be outside, he said. The golf outing was packed with plenty of prizes and lots of good food. Everyone walked away a winner. I am grateful for Kathy Moustis who graciously chaired the golf outing this year, along with her committee of dedicated helpers who were able to pull it all together for the parish. The proceeds from the golf outing go to help fund our Tuition Assistance Program that provides financial aid to families that have children attending either our Parish School or Religious Education Program. This year our golf outing cleared about $6,000.
Nine weeks is not forever. I hope that during this time of transition we make the best of the situation and pray for patience and understanding. The truth is that all of us have to make some adjustments given that we are out our usual spiritual routine. Even though we may not be sitting in a favorite pew, God will be with us, helping us to love one another. We can find great comfort and wisdom from the words of Jesus in todays gospel. He says, Behold, I am with you always. It doesnt matter what side of Sobieski Street we are on, the north or south side, God is there with us. The big question is will we be there for God? Got An Hour? Volunteers are needed to help make the transition over to the gym for our summer liturgies. We will be moving many of our liturgical supplies over on Monday night at 7:00 PM. Do you have an hour to spare? With enough people, it might even take less time. Please call the rectory if you can help. Whatever you can do is greatly appreciated. Thanks. A Class with Lots of Class Congratulations to the graduating Class of 2012 from our Parish School. They receive their diplomas this Sunday afternoon, as they gather with their families and friends for the Sunday Eucharist. The Class of 2012 is a great class! Mrs. Shirley Tkachuk, our principal, and School Faculty are very proud of them as am I. They will be greatly missed. A real and obvious hallmark about the Class of 2012 is that they are kind to each other. They exhibit a genuine and basic Christian care and respect for their fellow classmates. They treat each other well, which is great to see, especially from students who attend a Catholic school. This shows that a Catholic education makes a difference in the life of a young student. Best wishes to the Class of 2012 as they venture forth into high school. May the years ahead of them be filled with many great things to come. May their Catholic faith, that has been nurtured and supported, be a constant source of help and guidance for our teens. In high school they will need God and their Catholic faith as they face the challenges before them. For Greater Glory There is a new movie that was released on June 1st, entitled, For Greater Glory: The True Story of Cristiada. I have not seen the movie yet, but the promotional material that I received describes it as a powerful movie
Take a Good Close Look! Before you leave church today, you may want to take a close look at the interior of our church for one last time. On Monday afternoon, June 4th, after the End of the Year School Mass, workers will arrive to set up the scaffolding for the painting and construction that will happen over the next several months. By October the interior of the church will look fresh, clean, brighter and elegant as improvements and restorations are made to our sacred place. As announced during the month of May, the gym will be our central place of worship for the next nine weeks. Our Staff and Art and Environment Committee are making every effort to create a place that will be reverent and feasible for confessions, daily Mass, weekly novenas and devotions, baptisms and Sunday Eucharist.

that tells the largely unknown story of the Cristero War and the struggle for religious freedom in Mexico during the persecution of the Catholic Church in the late 1920s. The film is unique inasmuch as it is a major motion picture that treats a religious subject with great respect and understanding. The example of the Mexican Martyrs who made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of freedom should be an inspiration to us today. You can purchase tickets online by visiting, www.ForGreaterGlory.com. Also check you local theaters for movie show times as well. Same Time, Just a Different Place A parishioner called the rectory during the week asking, Will the times of Masses in the gym change over the summer? We reassured her, No. The Sunday mass schedule remains the same throughout the summer, even when we are in the gym. Below is the Sunday Mass schedule for our neighboring parishes for your convenience. Remember that your weekly offering will be forwarded to us if you use your printed family envelope from St. Cyrils at either parish. Please keep in mind that our Parish Operating Budget is based on the 52 weeks of Sunday collections throughout the year. Many of our parishioners attend Mass while away on their summer vacation. They naturally financially support the parish that they are visiting. Please remember St. Cyrils as you make your financial plans for the summer. We are grateful for your constant generosity and support. Whats All That Noise? You will hear a lot of screaming and yelling Wednesday morning. Dont be alarmed, its just our kids getting out of school for their summer vacation. I cant wait to hear the sound of Summer silence as parish life slows down. Shhhh!

Dear Parents, This coming Wednesday, June 6th is our last day of school! We have had a great year filled with many opportunities to pray, learn and grow together as members of SS. Cyril & Methodius School. Congratulations to the Class of 2012! It has been a delight to work with you and see you reach this wonderful day. Our entire school wishes you all the best as you continue on to high school. Thank you to the parish for your continued support of our school and for working with us during the year. The school staff and I hope you enjoy and relax during the time away from school! Just a few reminders: Our office will be open until June 14th between the hours of 9:00 AM and Noon to receive your registration materials. We will also offer the option of returning your materials when we host Registration Days on August 7th and 8th in Fr. Sivore Hall. Mrs. S. Tkachuk, Principal
The work of SPRED is to form a small faith group in which there is a one-on-one relationship with six people of a particular age group (either children or teens or young adults, or adults with cognitive impairments such as autism spectrum disorder, developmental or intellectual challenges, down syndrome, cerebral palsy and learning problems). We know there are families in our parish no matter the age or abilities of their son/daughter who could benefit from SPRED. SPRED is a faith development program. It is about becoming more aware of the Lords presence in our everyday lives. Growing in faith is a lifetime process since the God we want to know is a mystery. Friendship is the core of this faith lived in a sacred environment created by the SPRED group. Parents and interested people are invited to a SPRED Informational Gathering on Monday, June 11th, 6:30 PM in our rectory meeting room. We are also in need of four more adult volunteers to form a small faith community and welcome six of these people. Join us for more information. This will help you make your own decision.
