Book 2 Prologue The searing pain shot through her again and she fought to keep from crying.

Backing further into the broken down public bathroom, she knew it could not be long before they found her. As the contraction subsided she could feel her energy flagging. Because of the hunter constantly on her tail she hadnt had a chance to feed for two weeks, normally she would have feed every week and with the baby, even more often. Now that the intense pain in her stomach subsided the clawing hunger returned in full force. Her fangs bit into her lower lip and her muscles started to ace with a fierceness that once again had her crawling up in pain. She fought to regain control over her body. She knew she was losing. It had taken the last of her strength getting into the well hidden bathroom in the faraway corner of San Franciscos main train station. If they got to her now, there was nothing she could do to save neither her nor the baby and her husbands sacrifice was useless. Just as the next contraction took hold of her body, she heard fast sure footsteps coming down the hall. ^*************************** I knew there was a bathroom down here! Margaret felt pleased that she remembered the small toilet at the end of the dimly lit hallway. Having just worked a double shift, it had been 02.00 in the morning before she left the hospital. The thought of the reason she stayed late had her smiling. It had been a difficult delivery, but both mother and child would live. The joys of being a delivery nurse was a little bittersweet, as she and her husband had been trying for a child for 15 years, but just couldnt conceive. They had been contemplating adoption, but the agency told them they had to wait a wile after going trough all the processes of being accepted as potential parents. As she moved closer to the bathroom door the sound of a muffled, pained cry sounded from inside. The obvious pain of however was inside had Margaret in nurse mode within seconds. Having had her practice in the ER she always had a cool

professional attitude when it came to hurt or sick people. She threw the door open, but could only stare in shock at the woman inside. Margaret guessed her to be in her early 20s. She must once have been a beauty queen, her hair was long and an unusual tone of golden blond, her eyes a vibrant blue\violet shade and her legs long and lean. Now, she looked overly tired. She had dark shadows under her mesmerizing eyes and was so pail she looked whiter than the tile wall she was leaning against. Her clothes obviously of a fine quality, but were dirty and torn. She was bent over, covering her obviously pregnant belly. As if she was trying to protect the child. When a spasm passed through her body and she tried holding back yet another pained cry, Margaret was spurted into action. As she approached the girl, she tried to back further into the darkest corner. Margaret stopped and held her hands opp. I dont want to hurt you, I am a nurse, I just want to help Margaret moved slowly towards the girl as her contraction ebbed out. Whats your name? The girl looked up at her, eyes so glassy they looked like mirrors. Her arms still protectively slung over her belly. She turned away before she answered. Sheila her voice sounded like the finest little sonnet but the undertone sounded a little hoarse. Good, Sheila, let me just get out my phone and I will call for an ambulance. No! No doctors! The girls eyes blazed fiercely and she tensed as if to get up. Margaret stepped over to her and held her shoulders down trying to keep her from rising. She got down on her knees to try soothing her. She knew it wasnt good for her to be upset when obviously so weak. Alright, we can deliver your child here, and then I will talk to you about getting a

checkup anonymously at the clinic. Sheila seemed to relax a little by her words, but when Margaret moved closer she tensed all over. Her eyes locked on the pulse beating steadily at Margarets throat. Before Margaret had a chance to react the girl flashed a pair of real life fangs and stuck them in her jugular. *********************** When the woman came in, Sheilas instincts screamed at her to take her blood. Her fangs dropped fully into her mouth and aced painfully at the intoxicating smell of fresh blood. Her world had become nothing but different kinds of pain. The woman wanted nothing more than to help, and Sheila did her best to keep her distance. Had she been able to she would have compelled her to leave, but she was to low on energy to even try it. When the woman leaned in close to her, the hunger got too much. Her instincts took over and before she knew what had happened, she came to with her fangs buried deep in the womans troth. The blood tasted heavenly filling her empty stomach. She remembered the nice womans attempts at helping her and with a huge effort she managed to draw back and close the wound with her saliva. She felt stronger, but the little she took from the nurse was far from enough to rebuild her power supplies. And she would need her powers to protect herself and her baby after it was born. Maybe the human could be of use? She decided to remove her bite from the womans memories but nothing else, since she was still dangerously low on energy. She had just managed the compulsion when another contraction hit her hard. Breath deep, concentrate on your breathing and ride the pain out. The Human gripped her hand and Sheila found it easier to concentrate on her firm grip and kind voice as she mumbled encouraging words to her. Soon the pain faded and the woman loosened her grip. My name is Margaret, and I am a delivery nurse. If you would lie back with your knees up and you feet on the floor, I can check how far along you are.

The woman, Margaret, took of her jacket, folded it and put it behind Sheilas head as a pillow. Then she lifted her knees and put her feet on the floor, near her thighs. When Sheilas legs were spread completely, Margaret sat down between them and put a finger inside her. After probing around a bit she withdrew her finger and sat back. You are just about fully dilated, the baby seems to be in the right position. When you feel the urge to, push. All Sheila could do was nod when another contraction hit her, this one different from the ones she had experienced the last couple of hours. Her breathing turned even shallower and her body told her to push. Take a deep breath and hold it for ten seconds while you push down. The pain changed somehow, but didnt become any more bearable. She knew that all three of their lives were desperately at risk from the hunters. But there was nothing she could do. She desperately wanted to get this over with so she could be free to protect her child once again. ***************************`* Thats it! One more big push and you are done! Come on, deep breath! Sheila looked like she was about to faint from exhaustion. But she had a will unlike anything Margaret had seen, she hardly complained at all. But her strength was flagging and Margaret knew it was good they were nearing the end. With one last exertion a beautiful baby girl was born and the soft first cries of a newborn filled the empty train station. Margaret took the small child over to the dirty old sink and washed her. Then she brought her over to her mother and showed the exhausted girl how to breastfeed. While the newly made mother lay there with her child wrapped securely inside her blouse over her chest, Margaret started cleaning. Due to limited supplies she had to make do with paper towels from the dispenser over the sink. When Margaret had it as clean as she could get it, Sheila suddenly

snapped her head up. She seemed to gather her last reserve of strength before she got up and handed Margaret her baby. Take her, dont let them get her! Run! Protect her! Sheila whispered fanatically before she shoved them out the door and into a supply closet down the hall. The second Sheila closed the door Margaret herd steps rounding the corner. She gave the baby her finger to suck on so she wouldnt cry. The tiny little girl felt so warm and alive in her arms, she was frightened for both her and for her mother. Why would Sheila ask her to keep the baby safe? Did she not plan on doing so herself'? And who was it that made the girl so afraid she got up when she was shouldnt have been able to stand? Margrets thoughts flew and her heart beat loudly as she slid as far in as she could in the dark closet. Suddenly voices sounded outside, there where at least three men and Sheila. We got you know bloodsucker The first man chuckled and soon the other two joined in. Yeah took us long enough, we caught you husband weeks ago Another said. Sheila hissed and jumped to tackle one of them. Then there was several muffled gun shots and everything went quiet, except for the low chuckles of the tree men. Well, Ill call for cleanup and you guys get the truck The first one said, as if this was something they did often. Margaret heard a phone being dialed as two of the men walked back down the hall. Hey Sally, got our self a pregnant female! He said as someone answered. I know, but this one was good at hiding. Always slipped out right under our noses Margaret only heard his half of the conversation but she guessed sally was the cleaner. Were at the SF train station, outside a bathroom in a hallway by platform one. Margaret got out her own phone to cal the police, but the man outside would hear her voice. So she decided to send a text message to her husband.

Im at the bathroom off platform one at SF train station please send the police a woman just got murdered. She turned the sound off on her phone, in case he called beck. A couple of minutes later she heard the sirens coming closer. The man outside must have heard them too. Shit! Just what we needed. He swore as he took his phone back out. We got us some coppers he said before he snapped his phone shut and started pulling something heavy down to the fire escape at the end of the hallway. She heard a truck engine outside and the man talking to his two buddies before the car drove away and it all went quiet for a little while. The baby started moving in her arms and she pulled her close just as new men moved down the hall, arriving both ways. Hallway is clear she heard someone say, as if in a radio. The baby chose that moment to give a small cry, alerting whoever was out there to their presence. Wait, I heard something the same man said as he walked towards the door she was hiding behind. Margaret tried to move into the cover of darkness in the back corner, but the closet was small and there was no room. As her hart once again raced at a thundering speed, the man reached the door and it flew open. Margaret let out a breath she didnt even knew she was holding when the doorway was filled with a broad shouldered member of the San Francisco police force. Mam? You Margaret Jones? his deep voice broke the silence that had settled over the hallway and his colleges started putting away their guns and talking. Yes I am. Did my husband call you? Her voice sounded a lot steadier than she thought it would. Yes he did mam, now, will you come with me?

So, this is the statement youll stick with? The detective sitting on the other side of the wooden desk in the small, but cozy office had just read back to her all she had told of what had happened in the last couple of hours. Now, he slid the paper over the desk for her to sign. Yes and thank you detective. I just have one question. Yes? The detective looked grave and serious, like he had since she was brought to his office. What will happen to the baby? His lips tightened at the mention of the abandoned child. Margaret guessed the reason had something to do with the photo of a little girl on his desk. First we will take her to the hospital for a medical check. Then they will send her to social services. Margaret gazed up at her husband standing quietly by her shoulder, meeting his gaze, then she turned back to the detective. Would it be possible for us to adopt her? Chapter one 22 years later Ooh, I like this one. Jane normally liked window shopping with her roommate, but her hunger was growing and now she was at the point where all her friends smelled like walking snack bars. This was the fourth time on this short trip to the mall she had to keep her mouth shut while she tried to push her fangs back up. She was becoming pretty good at hiding them by now, she had been living with them for 6 years. At the time, she was in the process of getting yet another identity, one to last her through collage and her father had just gotten diagnosed with cancer. To not further worry her mother, she decided not to tell her about it when the constant hunger fits started. And when food did nothing to still it, she didnt know how to tell her anymore. When finally her fangs arrived it was way too late, too many lies. And

she was good at lying, a master I would say. After living in hiding, with a new identity, history and address every other year, it became second nature. When she had just turned one, the guys who killed her biological parents found her and her adoptive parents. They barely escaped with their lives. And ever since then, they were on the run, constantly. Growing up in fear had thought her to always look over her shoulder and with her new senses she was constantly aware of everything going on around her. Like the guy currently staring at her and her roommate. He was cute enough, with a black t-shirt that showed off abs and a chest to die for and well fitted jeans. Jane didnt think much about it, since her roomy had nothing but a mini-dress on. One who barely covered her gorgeous ass and her perfectly round ccup boobs. Well, they were c-cup with the extra padding stuffed in there. The guy had a good reason to stare. Yes, I like it; it shows off your curves. Jane said happily. I think Ill buy it, its on sale Hey Georgi, what if I go get something to eat and you pay for the dress? Ill meet you by the food court in a half an hour. OK, see you there Jane turned to leave as Georgina went back into the fitting room. Though she might not look the part, Georgi was studying medicine with Jane and was top of their class. When Jane had first met her new roomy, she was scared of not getting enough studying done, the girl looked like the kind to have all night parties EVERY weekend. But it soon turned out Georgi was there on a full scholarship and they had been best friends ever since. Jane made her way towards the back door as she scouted the crowd for a fitting blood donor. She would need a person, preferably a guy, who was perfectly healthy, not too young or too old and who had not given blood already the last week. And believe it or not, it was not always easy to find. She soon noticed the guy from the store was walking a bit behind her, still looking over at her every now and then. Jane suddenly remembered seeing him at the shoe store earlier as well. Was he following her? Her adrenaline was running higher as her heart thundered in her ears. Had she still been able to

sweat, her hands would have been soaking wet. She took out her phone and texted Georgina, telling her she was sick, had to leave and couldnt meet up with her later. She hoped her best friend would be safe, not knowing a thing, there wasnt much they could use her for. Jean sent out mental probes, trying to see the essence of the mans mind, and maybe even manipulate it. But she was met by a thick wall. This had to be someone who knew what she was, and most likely, the people who killed her biological parents. When the man saw her running he picked his cellphone out of his Jeans pocket. With her accelerated hearing she herd him calling someone. She got us, target moving out the south door. his flat tone was chilling and her hart skipped a beat before continuing on is thundering rhythm. Jane knew someone would try to intercept her in the quiet back street outside the door she was headed for. Fortunately she had been thought escape techniques while other little girls played with dolls. And the number one rule was to always be prepared and know you venue. Out back there was a way up on the roofs and down two blocks over. From there it was just down an ally and over the street and she could pick up her escape pack from the train station and be out of town in minutes. And if that failed she was an expert in four different material arts. As she stormed out the door she added some power to her legs and run so fast to humans it would look much like a car on a highway racing by. Her power enhanced legs made the jump up to the second floor balcony and further up on the roof with ease. Bullets where flying around her. She knew her power was getting low and slowed down on the power to her legs as she started to race over the roof. She hadnt taken more than a couple of steps before a bullet hit her in her upper right arm. She whirled and headed for the shooter before it had a chance to fire another shot. Rounding a skylight she was met by a woman in military clothing. Black all over, even the helmet. With a punch to her elbow she had the woman disarmed and a swift knock to the head rendered her unconscious. Jane continuing in her original direction over the rooftops as she herd the dull thump of a body hitting the roof. Soon she reached the end and used the fire escape on the side of the building to get down. She knew it was most dangerous in the ally, to many hiding spots. She chose the safest path, just past one dark doorway to the street outside. Her heart was beating so fast, it felt like it

was thundering its way out of her ribcage. Just as she was passing the doorway, strong male arms came one around her waist and one covering her mouth. They smelled of the most Delicious dark must and the sent alone sent heat rushing down her belly. Jane tried to get free, she even used more energy then she should use, but when nothing seemed to work, she started to panic. And just then she heard a van rounding the corner. Its over, she was going to die. Chapter 2 Vincent had been following the hunter team for nearly a month. As a vampire enforcer his job was to protect the vampire society. And when he discovered the team of hunters he decided the best thing to do was to follow them to see who, if any of the vampires had been discovered. The team had moved from town to town, seemingly looking for something, or someone. At first they kept to towns with known vampire residents, but they sought non out. Then the hunters moved on to scouring cities where no vampires had ever lived or ever been as far as he knew. They always had a pattern. The first thing they sought out was the university campuses. But from Vincents knowledge, the only vampires attending university was at Harvard. Since vampires stop aging, or changing at all, when 25, most could pass for younger and attend the classes they wanted, but not many chose to. For most, it got boring after 50 years or so. And when they chose to, they often stayed together. It was encouraged so that the enforcers could easily look after them and provide protection against the hunters. After sending someone to Scout out the campus, they sent people to the mall and coffee shops and other normal student hangouts. They were likely looking for a student, probably a girl. It seemed as they had been hunting for her for a long time. And they even almost found her once. Only, all they found was an elderly ladys house and an empty teenage girls bedroom, the old lady even up and left hours before they found her. The house was empty for almost all evidence, as if it had been done expertly. But the hunters found a neighbor who knew the lady had a daughter studying at some university. Even with compulsion, Vincent had not been able to find anything more. Who where they hunting? A vampire living with a human? It wasnt unheard of, but that was mostly servants or lovers about to be turned. This could not be a vampire, he would

have heard about that. But why would the hunters be interested in a human? And the smell in her room had a hint of vampire in it, like a vampire before puberty hits them and their powers start to develop. When they finally found who they had been looking for, it came as a shock to Vincent. He had chosen to follow the group going to the campus, but they were soon called in by the group from the mall. He shadowed them, careful not to use enough power for them to sense him. With their extensive mental training, the hunters could pick up large amounts of energy use. Not as good as a vampire, but good enough. They also had the ability to block compulsion. When they all arrived at the mall, the hunters circled the perimeter of the building and stationed snipers along most off the surrounding roofs. He tailed the team leader from the campus team. After around 10 minutes, the team leader got a phone call. He could easily hear the man on the other end. It was the team leader put in charge the mall, he was the strongest and the coldest of all the group. His dark gray eyes bored into everyone daring to talk up to him. And together with his ice cold voice even Vincent got shivers just thinking about him. She got us, target moving out the south door. his voice was so flat, in control, even the other team leader could do nothing against the shivers going up his spine. Everyone got a move on and half the group was out on the back street covering a normal gray back door. Seconds later the door busted open. When he first got a glimpse of her, Vincent was to stunned to do anything. Her hair was flowing in curls out behind her. The golden color flickering with red where ever the sun hit it. Her lean muscular body still had flowing curves and her eyes was a vibrant aqua marine. Before he could do anything the girl had managed to get past all the hunters and up on the roof. The way she used just the right amount of power to accelerate her legs past the hunters and up on the roof was like watching poetry. He felt himself swiftly growing hard as he watched her precise movement. He had never seen anyone more in tune with their body. What got him to snap his jaw shut was the sound of a shot and the smell of vampire blood in the air. Shit! The sniper! He was on his way up the side of the building as he heard a gun falling to the ground. And seconds later the dull thump of a body ending up next to it. As he herd the light, swift footsteps of a vampire continuing on he realized she had managed to

take out the sniper. Not just fight him, or her, but take him\her out in mere seconds without a weapon or even a fight while recently shot. As he jumped down and started to follow her he heard cold-guy giving another command. Move to the van, she's heading for the train station, and call team 3 to say shes heading their way. We've got her now, just like we got her mama. His ever flat tone getting a little gleeful pitch at the end. Vincent put all the power he could without being detected into his legs. He could hear her slowing down and knew he had to catch her before she ran right into the trap at the train station. He could also hear the van speeding on the other side of the building, not far in front of her and knew if she ran out towards the station, they would kill her. Racing as fast as he could, he slipped into a dark ally just opposite the train station. He just manages to hide in a dark doorway before the girl jumps down from the roofs, just as he predicted. The way she landed and continued running in one stride had him harder than ever. As she was about to run past his hiding spot, her herd the van coming up on to the ally, right where she was headed. He grabbed a hold of her end hid her in the doorway with him before the van turned the corner. She started fighting the second he had her. He had to use power just up to the limit of what the hunters would sense to keep her from running right out to them. Why was she fighting him? Didnt she sense he was a vampire? She should know she was safe with him. Chapter 3 Jane kept on fighting even though it seamed like it was impossible. Even with her power, he was stronger then her. And the smell of him rendered her brain fuzzy, making her fangs come out, but not in the same way a normal man would. Without stopping to think she planted the heel of her 2 inch strappy sandals onto his foot. The other hunters was just outside where they stood, and she kept expecting him to push her out to them. But he surprised her. Instead of screaming out in pain, he sucked in a quiet breath and puled her further into the shadows. Jane stopped fighting, dumbfound. Why was he not turning her in to them? He was one of them wasnt he?

Stay still or theyll find you. his voice sounded like a whisper in her mind. Jane jumped at the sound. Had he just communicated with her telepathically? Who was he? And why not turn her inn? Jane was sure they would let him go as long as they got her. After all, she is the one they had been hunting for the last 22 years. Jane wasnt about to argue with him and make him change his mind. So when he tightened his grip on her and puled her flush against a hard chest, flat stomach and rock hard tights, she didnt fight him. As she felt his erection rutting against the small of her back, liquid heat flushed between legs. She could clearly smell his arousal and though the sent was different from any other man she ever met, the musky sweetness of it turn her on like no other. Jane stayed perfectly still for what seamed like an eternity. The shadows they where hiding slowly shrinking back as the sun rose higher. Her hart was thundering in her ears again, and she could feel his beating just as fast against her back. Just as the shadows started reseeding from their toes some one said; Shes not here, probably went some other way. Damn! Its just like her, just when we think we got her, she finds some new way to escape. the voice seamed cold, distant, but still had a well hidden bitter undertone. Well just pack up and look for trails. As the man said the last part, Jane could hear the men moving away. Their heartbeats becoming weaker and weaker. Jane stood still for a wild longer, afraid they would come back. Then she remembered the man holding her, just as he let go of her. Jane stumbled forwards and started running down the ally, the opposite way of the one the man went. Wait, who are you? his voice sounded in her head again, but for some reason she wasnt scared. The voice was soothing and familiar. Though Jane had never before herd a voice in her head, somehow it seam as though she had been hearing it all her life. Heck, she was a vampire, why not voices in her head? But somehow she was sure that it was his voice. And the thought puzzled her. His heavy baritone had a sexy drawl that had to fit to the thick arms and hard chest she had felt pressing against her back. And if he had a connection to the paranormal, maybe he could tell her more about what she was. Jane started slowing down before she was out of the

ally, . She could soon feel him catching up with her, even though she was currently using most of what she had left of energy reserves to run away. She needed to get to one of her several escape packages hidden around the city. As she started steering towards the train station again, he grabbed her arm again and towed her into a restaurant. Jane tried to get free, but for some reason he was stronger than her. Even with as little energy as Jane had, she should be able to trow off a human, no matter how strong. It only enforced the idea that this guy was something supernatural. As he pulled her into a private booth in the corner, she got her first look at him. What first drew her eyes where the vibrant blue color of his, not unlike her own. They had a energetic intensity and intelligent depths. They where clear and open, like the Caribbean ocean on a hot summer day. As soon as Jane finished the thought, she realized what a cliche it was. But there was no other way to describe them. Next she noticed his lean cheeks and light brown hair, perfectly tousled from the fast run. Though he did not appear to have broken a sweat. Again Jane was amazed, she never meet anyone who was able to do that. Well, except her. If she could just ask him if he secretly drank blood every now and then, without looking like a fool, she might get some answers about what or who she was. But she had learned her lesson long ago. Dont trust anyone, they just end up either hurt or hurting you. She could just make out the hard chest she could feel the imprint of against her back behind his t-shirt. His tight but not to tight jeans showed of the powerful legs she knew he would have had to have to keep up with her. He looked like some sort off male god, maybe a movie star. Jane could hear the waitresses hart speed up as she stumbled towards them. She was a blond high school girl with a little to much makeup. Probably a cheerleader. Jane new she wasnt what anyone would call pretty or sexy for that matter. Not like the cheerleader waitress. She had way too much mussels. And her hair was a dull, not blond not brown color. she'd never wear mini anything. She usually just wore comfy Jeans, easy to run in, and a t-shirt or top. Much to Gorgis dismay. But it was important to blend in and the outfit made for a good getaway run if she had to. Today, it was dark blue perfectly fit stretch jeans and a light blue tank top. Nothing compared to the waitresses mini skirt and tight uniforms shirt. The skirt was so mini you could see her lacy red thong underneath and the shirt buttoned so low her matching bra was showing.

Can I get you something? the waitresses voice was trembling and her hart now beat visibly in her chest. Her eyes was glued to the man sitting opposite of Jane, her pupils dangerously enlarged. Jane could smell her arousal and it made her want to growl at the girl. Just some lemonade his eyes never left her as he dismissed the waitress. Jane was reminded off the hunger for blood boiling in her throat, she had been repressing it to the back of her head but now it was once again showing its ugly head. Her thoughts wandered from the guy to the rapidly beating pulse of the waitress she could still hear from across the room. For some reason his blood was not as appealing to her hunger as that of the human currently heading their way with two drinks. But the mere scent of him made an other kind of hunger burn searingly hot. The way he looked only enhanced the steady stream of liquid heat pooling in her panties. The waitress dropped off the drinks and stayed just a little too long staring at the guy before moving slowly towards the kitchen. He waited until she far enough away before saying anything. Who are you? This time he actually spoke aloud and she had been right, his voice was the same as the one in her head. That sexy baritone drawl almost distracted her from his words. Why should I tell you that? Either mom sent you to look after me and you already know. Or you have no business knowing. How do I know your not just another one off their games Jane got up to leave. Planing to get someone to drink from and her escape package and then get out off town. He reached over the table and grabbed her wrist before she as much as got up. Your mom did not send me and I have been fighting the hunters my whole life. They killed my brother when I was 12. and after that I became an enforcer. Now, who are you? his voice sounded a little enoyed, like she should have no reason to mistrust him. Jane was still standing beside her chair, her wrist locked in place by his grip. Again she was amazed by his strength, even though she had no more power left to fight with, her base strength usually got most people off her.

First, the hunters are obviously the guys from whom we just escaped. But what is an enforcer? Jane`s voice was an angry hiss and her fists clenched in anger. His brows shot up at her words. He seamed confused. How would she know what the heck an enforcer was? Whats an enforcer? All vampires know what an enforcer is, we are the ones who protect vampire society from hunters. This is a childs lesson; you should have learned this long ago. Now I really want to know who the heck you are. he still sounded a little angry but mostly confused. His grip on her wrist tightened a little. Where the heck did you get vampire from? Are you some sort of loony? And I dont know who the heck I am so dont ask me. The only ones who know are your so called hunters. Jane silently stated to panic, how did he know what I am? Have to get out off here. But with all the control training her parents put her through, she let nothing on. And at her words the guy seamed dumbfound and loosened his grip on her wrist just enough for Jane to get loos and run towards the kitchen. She got out without anyone seeing her and found their waitress smoking in the alley out back. Without a moments hesitation Jane grabbed the girl and stuck her teeth into the soft neck before her. She took just enough to last her until she got out of town and then licked the wound to close it. The girl didnt even have time to make a sound before Jane erased the whole event from her memory. Then she ran out the ally heading for the taxi station two streets over. Jane had an escape package hidden in an abandoned barn north of town. The idea was that she could get to it by a stolen car or a taxi and then drive on out of state. Then she would contact her mom from the disposable phone hidden in the package. Her mom would know from the phone number what identity Jane had and use a matching one. Then they could meet up. There was a taxi at the station when Jane got there. She jumped in and shut the door, just as the guy from the cafe was turning the corner. Drive north Jane could hear the desperation in her own voice, and obviously the cabdriver could to. Because the second she said it, he was stepping on the gas.

Chapter 4 Shit, she is fast! Vincent ran as fast as was possible to run with humans around as son as she was off. He found the girl in the ally, the cuts in her throat rapidly healing. She her self not remembering anything. Her abilities just got more and more impressive. Rapid compulsion? It was something not many vampires bothered to master. They all got their food delivered or they had lots of time. It was mostly only enforcers who bothered training their power the way this girl obviously had. And Vincent knew all the enforcers in the area, and had not heard about any guests. He ran out the ally and was just in time to see her jump into a cab and drive off. It wasnt just her base abilities that amazed him. But the way she did everything. She had an inner grace that would make even most vampire ladies jealous. The way she walked, ran or jumped like she was born to do nothing else. The way even her musical voice was gracious like a panther. And the way she did everything with a control and speed that would amaze anyone. Vincent turned around and ran for his car. He had parked it not far away. He would need to report it inn. And then he would try to find her. He knew they drove north, but with her, he had no idea where she went. He had a feeling he wouldnt find her until she wanted to be found. When he got to his car, he called James. Hey, Vince, my man! Whats up? Found out what the hunters where hunting? James was always cheerful. He was one off the few people Vincent talked to on a regular basis. The other was his last living relation, his aunt. James didnt always sound like it, but he ran the enforcers main office perfectly. And without him, they would have no way to do their job. It was also to James you reported when you found something. Yeah, I found it, or... sort off. Vincent struggled to find the way to tell his friend about the girl. And about loosing her. I knew you could do it Vince, you ARE the best. Wait, sort off? What was it? Did they get it? It was a girl. Not even quite stopped aging yet, I think. And they found her at a

mall Shit, tell me you got her. James was starting to sound worried. Well, I had her. But she ran away. What?! Why the hell would a female that young and being tailed by the hunters run away from an enforcer? And who was she? I need to get her family on the line. I dont think she knew what an enforcer was. I don't even think she knew I was a vampire. And I dont know who she was. What the hell man? We need to find her! Now! Before they do! Shit, she'll get herself killed. Stupid females. James was now as near as he ever got to panicking. And it was a rear sign. But ever since his mistake lead to the death off a pregnant female a couple off years ago, he refused to go into the field and he got stressed each time a female was in danger. Calm down man. I have never seen a female quite like her. She can fight, I saw her knock out an armed hunter in a second, flat. And she got away from me, without any power left. Managed to drink from and compel a girl before I got up to go after her. And then escape in a taxi. I dont think anyone can find her if she doesnt want to be found. A female? Fighting? Never heard of anything like it. What do you know about her then, I'd like to meet this wonder woman of yours. James voice sounded a little calmer, he trusted Vincents judgment. OK, I'll tell you the story later, but could you get all the enforcers in the area to look out for a girl with shining reddish golden blond hair, 6 feet tall, jeans, a light blue top and sharp heeled sandals, clear blue eyes, little makeup and no jewelry. Possibly together with a human women in her mid 60s. But don't approach her, she'll just run again. Will do bud. And you go out and look for her, but keep in touch. Once James hung

up, Vincent started his car and speeded north after her. His new black Mercedes was a dream driving. It was gliding down the streets. Gripping the rode in a firm grip and shooting along the scenery. It was normal for vampires to love speed. They had faster reflexes then humans and speed was a part off their bodies. Was it running on foot, riding a horse or speeding in a car, he loved it all. But not today. His mind was spinning with questions and he had his hands full with keeping his car on the road at the blasting speed off 1oo mph. He could not be completely sure he was going the right way, but he hoped he was. He knew the taxi driver would not drive much over the speed limit and his only hope was to catch her before she left town. Vincent hadnt had a lover in nearly 60 years, he hadnt had the urge to. Humans where so slow and breakable. The last human love he had, ended up in a coma for weeks. He could not afford to lose control like that around them. And the vampire females where out off the question. Most off them stuck somewhere around the 1800s with their aristocrat husbands and fathers. They lived in separate communities along side with the humans. But rarely socialized with them. It was costumed for a woman to not go anywhere other then to other vampire homes without her husband or father. They where mostly snobby little pricks who screamed at the first sight of trouble. They refused to do what he told them when the hunters found them and refused to give up their comfortable living even for their own lives. But now, as he speeded after her, his dick throbbed painfully at the remembrance of her pressed against him in the ally. All hard muscles. Off the spark in her eyes just before she ran from him at the cafe. And the intoxicating smell off her and that off her arousal as his cock had pressed against her ass. She smelled off a rich heavy ambrosia with a hint off deep rose. Just the thought of kissing her had his cock straining painfully against the fly of his jeans. She was strong. Stronger then any woman he ever met, human or vampire. Though he had been with the least shallow off the vampire females, they where all either married and looking for a fling or they didnt want anything permanent. He quickly grew tired off one-nightstands. But she was different. He could see it in her eyes and in the way she moved. Even in the way she dressed. She was as much a fighter as he was. She was the strangest and sexiest girl he ever met. He could still feel her skin against his palms where they had held her wrist. Miles flew by, and soon he was good on the

outside of town. The sun was setting, and as it was a Friday night, he had the road mostly too himself. Vincent started doubting he was on the right road when there was no longer any houses other than the occasional farm as far as he could see. He stretched his senses out, trying to locate anything. But he could not sense her anywhere. Surely she was not god enough to know how to hide her signature, was she? The thought filled him with a respect he had for very few people, and most certainly no female. Who was she? And why had he never met her before? As an enforcer he would have at least heard of every single vampire in the whole community. And vampires dont go on another communitys territory. Just as he was about to turn around and head back into the city, sure he had gotten the wrong way, her taxi swooped empty back towards the city. He knew he could not have been too far behind her, so he took a shot at the next exit. The small gravel road slowly filled with trees and turned more and more into what could only be described as a trail. He continued along the trail for a couple of minutes befor arriving at an old barn.

Chapter 5 The taxi speed away as Jane walked up to the huge double barn doors. They had nearly fallen off their hinges and it seemed a family of bats had taken up colony on the inside of the roof. The roof, oddly enough looked intact. The package she and her mother had placed there when they first arrived in town was right where she thought it would be. She took out the prepaid phone and dialed her mothers number. She answered at the second ring. Halo, Margaret speaking Hi madam, this is Mr. Peters calling for superclean hovers. Can we interest you in our new package deal? It contains one superclean hover and a years supply of bags. Plus a ten year warranty. The voice modulator made her sound like a young man. But the important thing was that her mother now knew she was taking on the

identity of one Jane peters and they were meeting at safe house hundred and ten. No, I am quite pleased with my hover sir. It hiccups from time to time, but runs as smoothly as can be expected. The answer told Jane that Margaret had had some troubles, but everything was fine. She released a breath she had not realized she had been holding. Have a good day then madam. Jane hung up the phone and moved to the back of the barn to continue with her transformation to Jane peters. She liked to keep her first name as often as possible, and hadnt used it for that long so she thought it safe. She was just in the proses of taking out the hair dye when she heard someone driving up the rode to her hideaway. As the road was poor and long it would be a while before however it was could see the barn. She packed all her gear together and moved over to the backdoor and into the woods. She ran as silently as she could towards the bus station on the highway a few miles away. For a fleeting moment she thought it was the guy saving her and following her in town, but she knew it was no way he could have followed her all this way. It was probably just some teenagers out to make out in the woods. With her vampire speed they would have no way to follow her, even if the people coming where after her. And if they could find out where shed gone. She reasoned silently with herself. She was just wound up from the near miss she`d just had. Jane knew she couldnt run this fast forever. The little blood she had gotten from the waitress while on the run was not nearly enough. She would have to feed again soon. And for now, she reduced her speed to what would pass as a fast running human. After having gotten a good way into the woods, she found a creek bend hidden by two large bushes and a gigantic tree. She wasted no time as she started stripping off her clothes and coloring her hair strawberry red. She moved on to taking a dip in the ice cold creek, made extra cold by her lack of proper feeding. She scrubbed hard all over, knowing they would probably use scent to track her with dogs. The bath and change of clothes would end that trail cold, literally. As she exited the water she took care not to touch any of her old cloths. The pretty little ankle length good girl summer dress, with a flower pattern, fit her perfectly. It made

her beautiful, but not to noticeable. The new identification, some fresh cash and makeup went in the matching purse and the back pack went on top of her old cloths. About 15 min had gone by before Jane was moving once again. This time at a steady pace towards the road, where the bus waited to take her directly to Lakestown where she would meet up with her mother. The bus drove up just as she came out of the wood, and she was glad. The last mile or so she could have sworn someone was following her. Jane paid cash and got a seat near the rear exit to see everyone going on and off the bus. The ride was a long one, and soon Jane found her thoughts straying to her mystery enforcer, if thats what he is, was, whatever. She felt her cold body heating up at the thought of him. But she knew, logically they could never meet again. It would be too dangerous. Well, what was wrong with a little fantasy? That was what he felt like to her anyway, a dream. Could she really have found someone like her? Another vampire? The idea of meeting someone like her had exited her for so long. Now it just frightened her. How would this society he talked about welcome her? Was it usual what happened to her? From his reaction to her, she didnt think so. Could he help her? Or would he try to lock her up or kill her like the hunters? It amazed her how easily she employed the term, having only recently learned it. Having learned at an early age not to trust anyone but her mom and dad, she thought it best to avoid him altogether. The problem was that her mind just would not leave him alone. Neither would her libido. Chapter 6 He could still smell the lingering scent of her on the back entrance of the huge barn. It could not have been long ago she was here, 15 min max, probably less. She had probably left when she heard him coming. Bloody sports car could not drive faster than 10 mph at the bumpy wooden trail. He set after her trail into the woods. He could clearly smell her sweet intoxicating scent winding between the trees. And he found himself slowing down just to draw it in more deeply. The questions kept circling in his mind as he ran. The most important one was: why would she run from him? Surly she knew she had nothing to fear from him? When Vincent came stumbling upon the creek she had already left. He was over by her clothes before he knew what he was doing. He had to physically force himself away from them to

try to pick up her scent. The fact that he could not find it told him to things. She had taken a bath to cover up her scent and had somehow acquired a new change of clothes. She was even smarter than he thought. It took him a while to find her trail again. Mainly because his mind was clouded by the image of her bading naked back in the creek. But when he finally smelled the faint residual of her presence he sat of at a pace that surprised even him. Desperate to not lose her. The mystery of her, the alluring smell and feel of her skin. His speed paid off and soon he could hear her in front of him. His legs burned and he could feel the fatigue of trying to catch up with her. But just as he broke free of the trees and onto the highway, the girl disappeared onto the bus towards Lakestown. He could feel the disappointment over not getting to see her again burning under his skin. He fell down in the ditch by the bus stop and watched as the bus speed away. But his resolve came back, he had new clues to follow. He called James as he jogged back towards his car. Hay man you found your little mystery girl? James still sounded stressed but a bit relieved to hear from Vincent. Yeah, got her and lost her again. Shes on a bus towards Lakestown. Could you tekst me its route? Number 2231 just left the highway stop 15 miles out of town. What?! She got away again? Does she want get killed? I think she does not trust us. Shes never met a vampire before, as far as I can tell. Lives with an elderly human woman. How is that even possible? Ill get you the route and Ill get an agent in Lakestown as well, to interwiev the bus driver. That would be great, tell him to look for a girl with strawberry red hair and a flowery summer dress. Didnt you say she was blond? Yeah she was, she colored her hair in a creek, scrubbed and changed cloths. Nearly lost her scent, but found the strong smell of the hair color.

Wow, thats an experts work in getaway plans, its genius. Id really like to meet this wonder woman of yours. You know, exchange tactics. It actually sounded like a bit of awe in Jamses voice. And james, the cocky bastard never showed awe for anything. Got to get her in first now, dont I? Yeah you go get her, youll have the route in your cars GPS in minutes. Vincent hung up and speeded up his jogging till he reached the car. Almost eager to see her again. He got in his ride and drove a little too fast back down the small winding forest trail. He winched as he thought of his beloved car getting scratches, but didnt slow down. She was more important than any car. He had to save her; she had no idea what she was up against. As he reached the highway after what seemed like an eternity, he opened her up, full throttle. The speed gave him little of the satisfaction it usually did. His thoughts were to full with her. The ever present erection was throbbing painfully after his encounter with the creek. He kept visualizing her bath. All whet skin and hair, water running in streams down her perky little breasts making the nipples stand out, taunting him with their rosy creaminess. As he neared the city border he saw the bus a few cars in front of him, but the traffic was getting slower and tighter. He was still closing the gap between them, but it was going to slow. She would reach her stop before him. He felt tension spread through him. He could not lose her now; after all hed done to find her. Tension? He was a seasoned enforcer. He never tensed. He had been doing this job for well over 200 years and he had never even been remotely close to tensing up. He forcefully relaxed and continued putting all his efforts into driving. He could nearly see her as the bus turned into its spot in the station. He was a little relived she had not gotten off at an earlier stop. She was perfect, inconspicuously arriving as a perfect, cute country girl seated in the best tactical spot, just behind the rear doors. Unrecognizable if he hadnt known better. He parked by the street, in front of a gate. To hell with the ticket. He raced towards the bus just as she exited and walked purposefully towards one of the side streets. He decided not to confront

her out in the open, so not to cause a scene for the hunters to pick up on. He followed her at a distance impossible to humans, but to him, merely hard. He almost lost her several times, she went through a series of maneuvers designed to shake any followers. But she had not been counting on him being able to make out her smell among a thousand. After a while she slipped into a town house, nothing distinguishing it from its neighbors. He slipped in after her, intent on talking to her, and followed into the door she had left ajar into a first floor apartment. She whirled around as he entered the living room. Her eyes wide and red with fear and tears. Somehow it seemed wrong in her face. Especially the fear. She immediately slid into a fighting stance. His training demanded he knew his surroundings while facing someone with clear intent on hurting him. And he let his eyes run over the room. It was trashed. Everything thrown around and the furniture smashed to pieces. You, you lead them here! You heard my call and sent them to kidnap her, and then you followed me, trying to get me to. No way. Youll see, Im hard to catch and Im going to rescue mom as well! she all but screamed, her voice as sharp and cold as a knife made of ice. Her fist closed around a note she had crumpled when he entered. What are you talking about? Kidnap your mom? I followed you to help you, to keep you safe. Its my job. Yeah, the enforcer shit. Its just the kind of bull you guys would pool, just like the time you planted my kinder garden teacher and my high school best friend. I didnt believe it for a second. He could all but see the hope dying in her eyes. The despair closing in from the edges. No, its all true. Im like you, a vampire; the hunters have been hunting us down and killing us for decades. Smell me, I dont smell human to you, do I? he could see her start to doubt so he kept going. Ive been following the group of hunters searching for you for some time now, trying to find out what they know. It was all a huge mystery until I saw you. Vincents chest was tight with the fear that she might not believe him. His words

showed that strain. Though he tried to hide it, he sounded a bit desperate. And what if I just might believe you, considering you did hide me from them, whats next? I wont stop before my mother is safe. Shes all I got. He could hear the strain in her voice, she was still week from not feeding enough and from the long run. Vincent found himself answering, before he even knew what he was saying. Then Ill help you, well get you safe, and then Ill find your mother. Vincent knew the instant he said it that it was wrong. Going into direct confrontation with the hunters? And over a human, no less. It defied the code he had spent his life following. You think Ill just stay behind and let you go after my mother alone? How do I know youll keep your word? No, Ill go with you. Lets see if she left me some sort of message, and then well go after them together. Anyways, I know them better, this is the same team, more or less, whos been hunting me all my life. All your life? And you have not been caught? Thats impressive; most females would have been caught within moments. But I still cant put you in danger. The hunters will kill you on sight. Yeah, sort of got that from the super guns and bullets raining after me each time we meet. But what does this have to do with me being a girl? I could take you if I wanted to! The fierceness in her voice made him think she probably could, if she was in top shape. Nothing, its just that most vampires keep to them self and are sort off stuck in the past. Fighting is not a womans work, according to them. They also tended to go for more a more conversional, elegant clothing style. The kind that made humans think of country club members. The short tight summer dress left little to the imagination, it was almost see through and that included seeing the outline of the lace under it. He was fully hard again and had to shift around to prevent her from

seeing it. Still, a little piece of him whispered that her seeing it would not be such a bad idea. Ok, Ill work with you. But only because I know if you had the skill to be able to follow me all the way here, youre good. And you probably, if what you said about being a secret vampire police guy is true, have money, gadgets and backup it would take me forever to get otherwise. And because they are probably right outside waiting to catch me and I need you to get out of here. She loosened her stance and took a step backwards. Wait here, Ill go get us some new disguises. She disappeared into a side room. But she never had her back completely turned to him, he suspected she did not yet trust him. She merely, as she had said, would use him to get her mom back. Having grown up with hunters on her tail constantly, she probably trusted no one else. It struck him as a lonely existence, never being able to talk to anyone about something as important as being a vampire. And he was struck with deep respect for the girl that could not only survive, but always came out on top. Chapter 7 Jane felt the tears streaming down her face the second she was out of the room. She could normally act it out with the best of them, but today was just too horrible. She could hardly breathe for the fear for her mother, her heart and lungs squeezed excruciatingly tight. Some part of her was remotely examining her reaction and informed her that, yes, she was indeed panicking. She praised herself generously for not showing any weakness in front of the guy. She was still calling him the guy. Well, if she was going to pretend to work with him, she would have to learn his name sooner or later. She found herself exited to learn it, to know more about him. The thoughts of him helped her out of the spiral of despair she had been about to be sucked into. And she found she looked forward to seeing the world of people like her. The world of vampires, with him as a guide. The lifelong wish of figuring out how she became a vampire and maybe find her biological family sang in her. Her worry for her mother slowly turned to resolve. She had been forced to be strong all her life, she could be so again. She quickly dried her tears and marched over to

the secret compartment by the window. Then carefully pried the windowsill open to take out a new identity for her and a kit to make him one. She also took out hair dye black for him and dark red stripes for her. And some common brown contacts and brown powder for him and freckle pencil and green contacts for her. She deemed their cloths safe for now, all mainstream. She took it all with her back to the living room. He was in the proses of going through the room systematically when she entered. There is some blood over here, I think it belongs to your mother, it smells similar. And some from what must be one of the hunters. It appears that he was worse off than your mother. Other than that, I cant find anything. He was all business like, but Jane was an expert in reading human behavior. He was a little tense and his staggering blue eyes kept roaming over her. Everywhere it landed she felt a hot tingle going through her. If she didnt know better she would say he was attracted to her. The thought of him wanting her made her heart beat a little faster. She inwardly sock her head and got her business face on. Think girl! He might be working with the people who kidnapped your mother, the people whos responsible for her life being nothing but one huge game of hide and seek. A hunt where she was the ultimate pray. Her voice didnt shake one bit as she said: I could have told you that. My mother is the one who trained me, shes good at it. She probably left a message somewhere where she knew I would find it, and no one else. She took one look around and found a brochure next to the bloodstain belonging to her mother. It was for vacuum repairs. It advertised it could take twelve kinds of vacuums and that it would get your vacuum and deliver it back, good as new. Here! she said triumphantly. What? You think the vacuum guys took her? He sounded a bit confused. Witch, if one didnt know the code was actually to be expected. Janes cheeks grew a bit hot. No, its our code. When the vacuum is broken, it means one of us is either taken or dead. And this, twelve kinds of vacuums? Twelve attackers. The last sentence, that

they will come get it and deliver it, is a warning to be careful and not to come running after her. She tried to explain that her mother, at all times carries a folder with over a hundred different leaflets for vacuum suppliers and repair shops. And how she would use them to leave clues for Jane to follow so that she could come after her if one of them had to leave suddenly. Thats incredible. No one would think twice about the advertisement pamphlet. I certainly didnt. He seemed impressed with their procedures. Well, lets get out of here before they decide to come in. Here, put these on. She held out his disguise. And started setting up the equipment to make a false ID. It would not stand up long, as it would not be in the system, but it was a good fake and it was better than nothing. He was walking towards the door to the bedroom when she remembered she did not yet know his name. hey, by the way, ehm. Whats your name? you know. I figured I should stop calling you the guy now that we are working together and stuff. The nervous babbling was so unlike her, for a moment she was utterly stunned. She never babbled. She was always in control. That was how she stayed alive. She looked down when he stopped and glanced over his shoulder. Her hands fiddling with the ID making supplies. They stayed quiet for a few minutes until she could no longer stop herself. She lifted her eyes to his. It was a mistake. The blue pools swirled with intensity. They drew you into a cocoon of liquid safety. Jane felt her shoulders drop and could not help but think about how his arms had felt around her. They stayed quiet for a few more moments, both lost in each others eyes and their own thoughts. It seemed like, to Jane at least, as if his eyes where heating up. Like water in a pot, ready to start boiling. When he said Vincent, and what about you? What? Oh, my name. Jane. Jane still hadnt managed to lose the babbling. Though this time it came from being lost in a fantasy world where his lips settled hotly around hers. And his hard chest pressed into her acing nipples. Well, pleasure to meet you Jane. His voice sounded a little raw, sensual. Rasping over her skin. And his words brought a flood of heat through her body. Conscious of

the fact that he might be able to smell her arousal, she looked down at the ID kit yet again. She opened the pack and started fiddling with the content. But raised her eyes when she heard him start walking again. His backside looked just as good as the front. And Jane found herself lost in thoughts of him yet again. She only just snapped out of it when she heard the shower starting. ************************* The water ran cold down his back as he washed his hair. He had never before colored it, but the instructions where clear enough. The problem was keeping his mind on track. The little hellcat kept sneaking her way in. His erection was still painfully hard despite his attempts at getting it down, it had a mind of its own. And that mind was completely filled with pictures of Jane. In all his 200 years he never lost control of his baser bodily instincts. Vincent had no idea why he was suddenly unable to control himself. As a vampire he spent a lot of years training perfect control over himself so not to lose it while feeding. This was unacceptable. Still he managed to stay on the task of coloring his hair for the all of two minutes before starting to imagine what her natural hair color is. That lead to thoughts of just how he could find out. Not good. Vincent mentally shook himself. And returned to the task at hand. Black had never really been his color. To gloomy to sooth his pretend happiness. But it would suffice as a disguise. He had never before colored his hair, preferred a more old fashion approach to hiding. And black did blend well with the shadows and that always made it easier to hide. He finished washing out the hair dye after spending an agonizing 15 minutes without anything to do but think about her. And he spotted a new erection to show for his wayward thoughts. And it would not be going away anytime soon. He groaned silently at his loss of professionalism while pulling his jeans up. They were a little dirty from his run through the wood but they would do nicely blending into a crowd of tiered commuters driving home for dinner. He planned on getting her to the conclave of vampires currently residing not far outside Washington DC. It would be a few days driving, but he figured the hunters didnt know about him or how his car looked. They would be looking for a single girl desperately getting out of town. If

they took their time sightseeing they would use a few extra days, but no one would look twice at the young couple out for a romantic road trip. And besides, Vincent found he rather liked the thought of Jane as his girlfriend. He suddenly remembered his illegal parking and figured they should hurry before he was towed and they would have to get a rental. Not that that would pose much of a problem if she was as good at making fake IDs as she was at almost everything in this little game of hide and seek. He got the rest of his clothes on and walked out of the bathroom still drying his hair. She was bent over her work with the IDs, her hair falling over her left shoulder. How are they coming along? He asked carefully. Still scared she would run as soon as he talked to loud. She had been behaving like a frightened animal and he couldnt lose her now that he finally caught up. Great, just need a photo. She turned quickly and snapped a photo of him just when he lowered the towel from his head. It could not have been a good photo, but ID photos never where. This way it would look less suspicious. He didnt know if that was why she did it, but he would not be surprised if she had thought of it. She was bent over her work again for a few minutes before suddenly jumping up. There. One Mr. Stevens from new York created. She was looking down at the newly made ID smugly. He walked over when she held it out to him. It was expertly made. He shouldnt be surprised, she was obviously good at hiding, but he could not help being a little awed by her handwork done in a few minutes without expert tools. Now, I have to color my hair too. Keep a lookout, would you? Pack some of the juice in the kitchen so we dont have to go into a store nearby. Oh, and here is the rest of your disguise. She said as she handed him a pack of contacts and face powder. She quickly walked into the bathroom and closed the door. He heard the shower come on and his thoughts started straying again. God, it made him feel like a teenager. Vincent tried busying himself with the rest of his disguise and checking the perimeter. Soon he was almost back to his old, professional self. He had to

admit, the disguise was genius. With a few simple steps, he looked like a totally different person. And if he had to change again, most of it was gone in seconds. The shower was turning off just as he watched a man lurking on the corner. He had been hanging there, in view of their door, a little too long. Oh, the hunters where good, but there was always a rookie or someone else making one mistake. A nervous hand gesture, flickering eyes. They were scared of his kind and that was hard to hide. He could hear her humming in the bathroom as he watched the man being picked up by a car and a woman taking his spot. They tried to make it look casual, like he had just been waiting to be picked up, but Vincent had been doing this a little too long to not know what he was.
