Preface
Welcome to the Genesys Supported Operating Environment Reference Manual. This manual provides systemlevel information about the operating environments (operating systems, databases, and other support) required to run Genesys applications, and pertains to the Genesys 6.x, 7.x, and 8.x releases to date. Note: This manual is continually updated when new Genesys products are released. For the most current version, please visit the Genesys Technical Support Website. Intended Audience

For information about related resources and about the conventions that are used in this document, see the supplementary material starting on page 11.

Intended Audience
This manual is primarily intended for system engineers and other members of an implementation team who set up and maintain Genesys products. This document assumes that you have a basic understanding of:

Computer-telephony integration (CTI) concepts, processes, terminology, and applications. Network design and operation. Your own network configurations. You should also be familiar with Genesys Framework architecture and functions.

Using This Document


We recommend using the various Adobe Acrobat viewing tools to help you better view the tables and their footnotes, and to easily find information. These tools include the find, zoom, and hand tools. This section describes how to use these tools to help you quickly find information, adjust the view, and navigate through the pages of this manual.

Find Tools
Due to the amount of detailed information in the tables in this manual, we recommend using the convenience of the Find Tools located on the Adobe Acrobat viewing toolbar. To find a word or phrase:

Using This Document

1. In the Find text box, type in a word or phrase to find it in the current PDF file.

2. Press Enter. Acrobat finds the first occurrence of the word.


To find the next occurrence of the word: Press Enter again. Or, click the Find Previous icon or Find Next icon to continue the search backward or forward. To perform a full Acrobat search: 1. To perform a full search using more options; click the drop-down menu at the right of the Find Text Box. Select Open the Full Acrobat Search.

2. Designate the search parameters, and select search options: Whole Words Only finds only the complete word you entered. Case Sensitive finds only words with the same capitalization and lower case letters you typed in the text box. Include Bookmarks searches the bookmarks, also. Include Comments searches the comments, also. Click the Search button.
To close the Full Acrobat Search window:

Click x in the upper right-hand corner.

Zoom Tools
The zoom tools enable you to change the magnification level of each page to more easily view the data in the tables and read their footnotes. The Zoom buttons are located on the Adobe Acrobat viewing toolbar. To increase magnification, choose one of the following:

Click the Zoom In button. Repeat to magnify further.

Zoom In Tool

Select the Zoom In tool, and drag it to draw a rectangle around the area you want to magnify.

Magnification Value Box

Click the triangle next to the magnification value box and choose a larger magnification level.

To decrease magnification, choose either of the following:

Zoom Out Button

Click the Zoom Out button. Repeat to decrease further.

Magnification Value Box

Click the triangle next to the magnification value box and choose a smaller magnification level.

Note: Changing the viewing size of a page does not affect the appearance when you print the document.

Using This Document

Hand Tool
As an additional aid, each tables footnotes are hyperlinked, for your convenience. The Hand tool enables you to use these hyperlinks to navigate easily between the tables and footnotes. The Hand tool is located on the Adobe Acrobat viewing toolbar.

Hand Tool To follow a hyperlink using the Hand tool: 1. Click the Hand tool.

2. Position the hand over the hyperlinked area. The hand image changes to a hand with a pointing finger. 3. Click the hyperlink.
To view a magnified page using the Hand tool: When you magnify a page to a size that is larger than the window, you can use the Hand tool to move the page around to view different areas. 1. Click the Hand tool.

2. Position the hand on the page and move the hand. The page moves just like a printed page moving on your desk.

Deselecting a Tool
To deselect any tool, select a different tool. For example, to deselect the Zoom Out tool, click the Hand tool.

Screen Captures Used in This Document


Screen captures from the product graphical user interface (GUI), as used in this document, may sometimes contain minor spelling, capitalization, or grammatical errors. The text accompanying and explaining the screen captures corrects such errors except when such a correction would prevent you from installing, configuring, or successfully using the product. For example, if the name of an option contains a usage error, the name would be presented exactly as it appears in the product GUI; the error would not be corrected in any accompanying text.

T-Server distributes the error messages in EventError events. If you select true for the inbound-bsnscalls option, all established inbound calls on a local agent are considered business calls. All programming identifiers and GUI elements. This convention includes: The names of directories, files, folders, configuration objects, paths, scripts, dialog boxes, options, fields, text and list boxes, operational modes, all buttons (including radio buttons), check boxes, commands, tabs, CTI events, and error messages. Also used for any text that users must manually enter during a configuration or installation procedure, or on a command line.

Square A particular parameter or value that is optional smcp_server -host [/flags] brackets ([ ]) within a logical argument, a command, or some programming syntax. That is, the presence of the parameter or value is not required to resolve the argument, command, or block of code. The user decides whether to include this optional information. Angle brackets (< >) A placeholder for a value that the user must specify. This might be a DN or a port number specific to your enterprise. Note: In some cases, angle brackets are required characters in code syntax (for example, in XML schemas). In these cases, italic text is used for placeholder values.

This chapter provides a brief introduction and overview for operating environments (operating systems, databases, and other support) for Genesys applications. This document contains tables that provide information and relate product components, or groups of components, to particular operating systems and database management systems. The tables are organized by typical deployment uses, and defined as follows:

Agent-Facing Components Supervisor- and Administrator- Facing Components Customer-Facing Components


Server Components The Server Components Table includes Genesys components that run as backend processes. Typically these are installed on an MS Windows or UNIX machine running a server type operating system. Those processes or components that perform the server function of a client-server relationship, but are built to run on workstation operating systems, are included in the agent-facing or supervisor-facing application sections. Agent-Facing Components The Agent-Facing Components Table includes Genesys components that run on a workstation operating system or GUI environment. These provide functionalities typically used by agents, such as interaction handling and real-time statistics. Supervisor- and Administrator-Facing Components This table includes Genesys components that run on a workstation operating system or GUI environment and provide functionalities typically used by supervisors or administrators. Supervisors typically have real-time monitoring statistics, but may also have interaction handling capabilities. When an application contains both agent and supervisor capabilities, it is expected that all capabilities are supported on the same operating systems or GUI environments. For this reason, these applications could be listed in the either the Agent-Facing Components Table or the Supervisor- or Administrator-Facing Components Table. Administrator capabilities include interaction with the configuration or management systems, routing design applications, and campaign setup applications.

Customer-Facing Components This table includes Genesys components that run on a workstation operating system or GUI environment, and provide functionalities typically used by customers of a contact center. Generally, this is someone at home or in an office, who is using the Internet via a browser, chat, or instant messaging application.

Support Levels for Components of Operating Systems or Databases


Within each table in this manual, there is a specification of the level of the Operating System (OS) or Database Management System (DBMS) support for a particular component. The following definitions explain the table contents:

Support

The software can run on an operating system or using a database, and questions/problems can be submitted to Technical Support, assuming the appropriate Maintenance agreement is in effect. It does NOT indicate a commitment to support any particular features of that operating system or database. The tables in this manual are based on the vendors compatibility statements. Genesys may require customers to upgrade to a particular version level, or the operating system, or database. Unless specified, all versions between the minimum version and the latest version are supported. In the tables in this manual, - indicates not applicable. Only those applications specifically mentioned in this document are supported. For other applications or solutions not mentioned here, please refer to the appropriate Product Manager.

Version support for Genesys products: Genesys solutions using specific operating systems and databases are made Generally Available (GA) within a given release of the suite. For example, 6.1+ indicates that the Genesys solution or component is available in all Genesys 6 releases from Genesys 6.1 to the latest available version (included). Note that 6.1 without the + sign means support for only 6.1. Version support for platforms (OS, DBMS, browsers): This document identifies vendor product versions as x.y, or in some cases x.y.z. Although vendors often produce dot releases, this document identifies only major release numbers. Genesys supports the minor releases, based on the vendors' compatibility policy. Latest Supported Genesys Release column: When the Operating System is no longer supported by Genesys, the last available version is indicated in the column "Latest Supported Genesys Release."

Controlled

Genesys provides controlled support for eligible customer configurations. Genesys Professional Services can perform on site assessment, testing, and validation of your configuration to determine eligibility. For more information, please contact your Genesys Account Manager.

Support Levels for Components of Operating Systems or Databases

Tiered Support

Genesys enforces a two-tier support policy for operating systems and databases. Genesys gives priority to the support of major environments. Tier 1 environments include market dominant operating systems and databases, and operating systems and databases whose vendors have a joint development agreement with Genesys. As a consequence, in case of a new release of the Genesys suite, Genesys may provide support for Tier 2 operating systems and databases at a later stage. Genesys will provide the list of operating systems and databases supported as part of the release announcement. This document reflects the actual support at the time it is published.

Operating Systems Supported by Various Databases

Databases shown in Table 6, Database and Database Cluster Support for Server Components, on page 52 are supported on the operating systems shown in Table 1, Operating Systems Support for Server Components A - G, on page 26 and Table 2, Operating Systems Support for Server Components G - Z, on page 33. Databases not shown in Table 6 are not supported. Operating systems not shown in Tables 1 and 2 are not supported.

Maintenance Interoperable Components

The following core components are included into Framework components: T-Server Database Server Management Layer Stat Server These components are backward-compatible between releases. The latest release of these interoperable components can be used as a maintenance release for previous releases. These components are known as maintenance interoperable components.

Genesys products are not supported below the operating system and patch level specified in their installation package (IP) ReadMe file. Unless otherwise specified in the IP release note or this document, Genesys products are supported as follows:

For a given Windows operating system: on all combinations of service packs and patches above the minimum level documented in the IP ReadMe file. For a given version of a UNIX operating system as supported in this document: If this version is the same as the one specified in the IP ReadMe file; all patch configurations that include the minimum set of patches specified in this file are supported. If this version is higher; all patch configurations are supported. Genesys reserves the right to announce that some specific patch above the minimum level is not to be used for a given product. In the Operating Systems Support for Server Components Tables 1 - 5, the operating systems supported for the Genesys 7.x and Genesys 8.x Maintenance Interoperable Components are indicated by an asterisk (*). These include:

AIX 5.1 Solaris 7 HP-UX 11.11 Tru64 4.0 The Maintenance Interoperable Components include T-Servers, ML Servers, DB Server, Router Server, Stat Server, and Reporting Servers. The remaining 7.x and 8.x components are not supported on these operating systems.
Note: In Tables 1-5, support for Windows Server 2003 and 2008 64-bit is described as follows: - Windows Server 2003 or 2008 (64-bit) Compatibility refers to an x64-bit Operating System running the application in a 32-bit mode. - Windows Server 2003 or 2008x64 (64-bit) refers to the application running in pure 64-bit mode.

Genesys provides an open-software based solution that enables interoperability with other market-leading products, to enable you to deploy Genesys products in a virtualized environment. The virtualization products documented in this guide are supported with Genesys products running in specified virtualized environments, according to the Genesys virtualization guidelines and support policy in this section.

Genesys Virtualization Guidelines


Products using virtualization must run on sufficiently equipped computing platforms, particularly with respect to CPU speed, available memory, and network interfaces. Virtualization may increase the processing load compared to native deployment on a given node. You should follow the recommendations and best practices discussed in the virtualization platform vendor's documentation. You should be aware of potential impact to performance and voice quality when deploying components that interface with RTP media streams, including Stream Manager, Genesys Voice Platform (GVP) Media Control Processor, and CPD Server. Although these components operate in a virtual environment, in some cases it may be necessary to limit call rates to achieve acceptable voice quality. In all scenarios, when planning a production deployment in a virtualized environment, it is strongly recommended that you test the proposed configuration under simulated production conditions, to ensure acceptable sizing and performance.
