0 INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of the Study

The research done about the problems faced by adult students when furthering their studies. We do the research to find out and make recommendation how to overcome the problems. Most of the individual now like to further their studies. They looked out for many sources to upgrade their selves. In Malaysia, there are many institution offer further studies to the working adults. There are many courses available such as full time and part time. Most of Malaysian likes to further studies in masters, PhD, degree, PKPG, SPACE and others. Most adults prefer to further their studies in part time. They like to spend more time with their family, able to get full salary, manage their time between family and studies.

1.2 Statement of Problems.

The research to investigate and find out the problems faced by adult students when furthering their studies.

2.0 LITERATURE REVIEW

2.1 The History of Adult Students. In Malaysia, there are many institution offer further studies to the working adults. There are many courses available such as full time and part time. Most of Malaysian likes to further studies in masters, PhD, degree, PKPG, SPACE and others. Most adults prefer to further their studies in part time. They like to spend more time with their family, able to get full salary, manage their time between family and studies.

2.2 The Major Problems Faced by Adult Students Most of the adult students face financial problems when furthering their studies.

3.0 Research Methodology

3.1 Introduction The main purpose of the research is to investigate and find out the problems faced by adult students when furthering their studies. To evaluate and assess, 20 students from UTM, Skudai are chosen. Data for the research were collected through questionnaire. 3.2 Research Instrument There are eleven questions were prepared in questionnaire to answers by respondents.

3.3 Respondents of the Study

The respondents of the studies are 20 students from the UTM , Skudai . 3.4 Research Procedure Questionnaires were distributed at various location in campus. 3.5 Data Analysis To analysis data, the 11 variables were taken to identify the problems. The information were transcribed, and data tabulated in tables.

The analysis of the data in table 4.1.1.1 shows that 17 adult students are male and 3 of them are male.

The findings in Table 4.1.1.2 show that twelve students are in twenty five to thirty years old group, five students are in thirty one to thirty five years old group and two students are in thirty until thirty six years group.

From the analysis of the data in table 4.1.1.3, it can be concluded that fourteen students already have diploma, six of them have master and two have PhD.

The analysis of the data in Table 4.1.1.4 shows that sixteen of the respondent work in public sectors and four of them work in private sector.

The findings in Table 4.1.1.5 show that majority of the students (twenty of the student) earn income RM one thousand to two thousand per month.

From the analysis of the data in Table 4.1.1.7, it can be concluded that majority of the respondents choose to further study in full time course.

This section will discuss the findings of the study on problems faced by adult student when furthering their studies. The findings are presented in the form of pie chart found from a survey received from 20 adult student from UTM Skudai. Below are the finding of the study. 4.2.1. Majority of the respondent (75 percent) stated that they faced financial problem. Another 20 percent said lack of concentration and 5 percent stated other problem faced by them such as time management and policy of University. Based on figure 1, the result clearly shows that financial problem is the main problem. Faced by adult students. There are several factors that influence this situation. Full time course student got half payment from their monthly salary. They have to divide the money for transportation fees,

support their family such as children school expenses and support the cost of project paper, thesis and other usage in campus life. There are several factors that make adult students lack of concentration in their studies. In generally, they always went back to their home town. Most of them went back weekly especially for married students. They also miss their family when stay at university. The time management was the least main problem. They can submit assignment on time clearly shows that majority of them can properly managed their time between studies and their family. Apart from that, a student stated that university policy was the main problem which delay his thesis submission process. Financial problem and lack of concentration are the two main problem to be considered when furthering the study among the adult students. 5.0 CONCLUSION This research investigated problem faced by adult student when furthering their studies among University Technology Malaysia, Skudai. Primary data were collected by randomly distributing questionnaire to 20 students. As mentioned earlier in the introduction, the purpose of the study was to investigated the main problem faced by adult students when furthering their studies, effect of the problem on adult students and a recommendation to overcome these problems. The following conclusion can be drawn based on the findings of the study: 5.1 This study has shown that financial is the main problem faced by adult students when furthering their studies compare to other problem. 5.2 Lack of concentration is another problem faced by them especially for married respondent. 5.3 Lastly, time management is the smallest problem faced by adult students . http://tangkapgambar.blogspot.com/

The result of this study indicate that financial and lack of concentration are two main problem faced by adult students. However, these findings are only true for University Technology Malaysia adult students and cannot be generalized to other university adult students. The same study needs to be conducted with students from other universities to see if there are any similarities main problem faced by adult students when furthering their studies. 6.0 RECOMMENDATIONS 6.1 Recommendations based of finding.
