Caruso ENGL 1102 15 February 2012 September 11, 2001: A Historical Inquiry

September 11th started out as a normal day. People getting up, going to work or school. Everyone just going about their normal routine. All of this changed at about 8:15am when Flight 11 stops responding to FAAs Boston Air Route Traffic Control Center. The plane has been hijacked along with three other planes. All of these planes were supposed to be on a route heading to Los Angeles. At 8:26, Flight 11 makes a 100 degree turn towards New York City, New York. Amy Sweeny calls Michael Woodward at the American Airlines Flight Services Office in Dallas. Something is wrong. We are in a rapid descent... we are all over the place." A minute later, Woodward asks her to describe what she sees out the window. She responds, "I see the water. I see the buildings. I see buildings..." After a short pause, she reports, "We are flying low. We are flying very, very low. We are flying way too low." Seconds later she says, "Oh my God, we are way too low. The call ends with a burst of very loud, sustained static. (http:// en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_for_the_day_of_the_September_11_attacks) Flight 11 crashes into the North Tower of the World Trade Center at about 466 miles per hour between floors 93 and 99. People trapped by fire and smoke begin jumping to their deaths. The first television report is aired at 8:46 with pictures of the North Tower.

Comment [c1]: I like that you jumped right into the scene because this makes the paper more interesting and serves as a hook for the paper.

Comment [c2]: I believe you have a good amount of information for just the intro and first page.

Comment [c3]: Who is Amy Sweeny? That probably needs to be clarified for your audience. Comment [c4]: Correct format for this quotation!

Comment [c5]: I dont know if Wikipedia is accepted for one of our sources, so I might suggest if you could find this phone call on another, more trusted website, then use thatalso, when citing in the paper, no need to put the url, you can just put a short version of the title of the webpage. Comment [c6]: Just food for thought, you should try and imagine, when revising/writing your paper, pretend as if you are letting someone who has no knowledge of this event in history read your paper. Which in this first page you are, just make sure you keep this form throughout your paper. Comment [c7]: I dont know really what else to elaborate on, but so far I really like your paper and how you presented it in this first page! Theres really know grammar problems in this intro and the content is well formatted. Comment [c8]: I like the timeline idea where you are giving frame by frame what happened during what time of day.
