NBU Media Manager command line interface ---------------------------------------tpconfig Without parameters, tpconfig brings up a character-cell menu for MM component

configuration. Drive & robot configuration, volume database host configuration. With parameters, tpconfig can be used as a single command for drive and robot configuration. "tpconfig -d" displays the current configuration. vmadd Add media to the volume catalog. vmchange Change characteristics of a volume, such as the volume group, the volume pool, the volume location, etc. vmdelete Remove a volume from the volume catalog. vmcheckxxx Check contents of robot and compare to volume catalog. # vmcheckxxx -rt tld -rn 0 List contents of robot # vmcheckxxx -rt tld -rn 0 -list vmupdate Update volume catalog using robot inventory # vmupdate -rt tld -rn 0 [ -M rcspim ] vmquery Query the volume catalog with various filters. Single line per volume ("brief") # vmquery -a -b Single line per volume with slightly more info, including pool # vmquery -a -bx Multiple line output per volume with even more info # vmquery -a # vmquery -b -pn <pool_name> vmpool Query information about volume pools, add/delete/modify pools Single line per pool

# vmpool [ -h <media_server> ] -listall -b Multiple lines per pool # vmpool [ -h <media_server> ] -listall Add a new pool, allow any media server to use it (ANYHOST), any user (-1), no particular group access (-2). # vmpool [ -h <media_server> ] -add <pool_name> "description" \ ANYHOST -1 -2 Remove a pool # vmpool [ -h <media_server> ] -delete <pool_name> Change some characteristic of a pool # vmpool [ -h <media_server> ] -change <pool_name> ... Can change host - name of host allowed to request/use volumes in the pool. "ANYHOST" allows access by all hosts. uid - user id permitted to access pool "-1" (ANY) allows any user id gid - group permitted to access pool "-2" (NONE) forces access check only through uid tpclean Initiate manual drive cleaning # tpclean -C <drive_ID> vmoprcmd Perform operator functions on drives: up a drive up a drive under operator control (extra security) down a drive reset a drive assign a drive to a mount request deny/resubmit a mount request

Image and Media Queries bperror display entries from NBU error catalog bpimagelist query NBU catalog for status of images bpimmedia display imformation about NBU images on media bpmedialist display NBU media status bpmedialist -mlist -ev 000325 bpmedialist -mlist -U bpmedialist -mlist -U -p vault_backup_incr NOTE - bpmedialist will not list volumes which are not in the volume database. Volumes can be assigned to pools but still not be in the volume database. It seems like once they actually get used, then they are in the volume database. A form of the "vmquery" command will show all volumes, but there are information points provided by bpmedialist which don't show up in vmquery.. Goodies scripts In the directory /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/goodies there are some useful scripts: available_media duplicate_images support check_coverage

GUI restore ********************************************* - NetBackup restore using GUI - cd /tmp on rcspim - set DISPLAY - xnb& - click "usr backup & restore" - file -> browse backups (restore) new window pops up - select image or images to search (range of dates changes according to what you select) - under filename filter use "*" or specific name or name with wildcards - may want to change "Directory to Search" to narrow search - may need to change "Directory Depth" - to start the search, click in "Filename Filter" and hit enter - hopefully some files show up in the "Files" pane - select one or more files to recover - use Restore -> Specify alt path - click Restore -> restore selected files... to actually start it

- use Restore -> report progress of restore (select auto update) - NetBackup restore invoked from sespdm2 client using GUI - Doing this as root on sespdm2. (I was also able to do this while logged in as pd16064, an unprivileged user) - setenv DISPLAY 147.16.47.221:0.0 (my desktop) - /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/xbp & - file -> browse backups (restore) new window pops up - Set date range (02/01/03 00:00:00 - 02/13/03 23:59:59) - Set directory to search (/export/home1/users/pd16064) - Select one of the five "Full" backups performed on (note: you don't need this step, it just limits what gets displayed in the Files pane. If you don't select a specific backup, all the different backup versions for the "directory to search" in the given date range get displayed. The file you select will determine which backup gets read) Feb 8. These were all performed at the same time and multiplexed onto a single tape, but I don't know which one contains files from the directory I want to restore (/export/home1/users/pd16064). Just highlight the first one, click in the "Filename Filter" area where there is a "*", and hit return. If nothing from the directory /export/home1/users/pd16064 is in that backup, a popup indicates such. If there is something, then the "Directory Structure" and "Files" panes show what is in the backup. - In the "Directory Structure" pane, select the subdirectory "notes". The files backed up from that directory show up in the "Files" pane. - Select the file "tips_unix.txt" to recover. - Use pulldown "Restore -> Restore selected files..." An "xbp_confirm" window pops up, click OK. ? Is there a way to know which tape volume it will need before starting the recovery? - In the "device management" window volume 000255 got mounted. In the "Job Monitor" window there is an active restore job, but you can't get any info by double clicking the active job, nothing happens. - In the xbp window, use "Restore -> Report progress..." to get an "xbp_progress" window with a pane showing the relevant log file. You actually need to select that log file and then the progress is shown in the "Contents..." pane. And you need to click on "Automatic Refresh" to get up-to-date status. - The file did get restored with its original information. - The ability to perform recoveries from the client can be controlled on the server with either the "bpclient" command or a "DISALLOW.." setting in /usr/openv/netbackup/bp.conf Character cell menu restore *********************************

/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/bp select backup or recover select recover mode use restore menu to select files, etc, initiate recovery Once the recovery is initiated, there are a couple more prompts, one of which indicates the name of a progress log. This progress log can be viewed while the recovery is occurring with "tail -f <logfile>" Command line restore **************************************** - use bplist to see if your files have been backed up /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/bplist -C sespdm2 -k pdm_user \ -R -l -s 02/05/03 -e 02/13/03 /export/home1/users/pd16064/notes - use bprestore to recover /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/bprestore \ /export/home1/users/pd16064/notes/tips_NBU_cmdline.txt This comes back immediately with no indication that anything happened, but NBU performs the recovery in the background. Use the "-L /<path>/<logname>" option to create a status log file which can be viewed in progress.
