1. FIRST-TIME INSTALLATION 1.1. PASSWORD After the installation, Prime Family Filter must be run for the first time to activate it. This is ONLY needed the first time you download and install it. To launch Prime Family Filter, clic on Windows' Start menu button, choose Run, and type the word "Prime" (without quotes), then clic OK. You will be as ed for a password to use to configure and to uninstall the filter. You should choose a password that is difficult to guess (birth dates and names are quite easy to guess) and that is not too short. You can use as many numbers, letters, symbols, words, and punctuation as you want. Don't forget your password! If you can't remember it, write it down and store it in a safe place.

2. USAGE (LITE VERSION) 2.1. LOGIN Prime Family Filter will start automatically and run as a bac ground, hidden process; you don't need to log in every time. Since the filter is invisible, and an icon placed on your des top or start menu could attract unneeded attention, the only way to login is to clic on Windows' "Start" menu button, then choosing "Run", and entering the word "Prime" (without quotes) and clic ing on OK. Alternatively, you can open the Windows directory from "My computer", locate PRIME.EXE and clic on it.

2.2. CONFIGURATION After logging into Prime Family Filter using your password, you will be able to change some options. If your Internet Service Provider (ISP) requires that you use a particular proxy server to browse the internet, put the proxy host address in the proxy server box (in the Prime Family Filter interface) and its port number in the proxy port box. VERY IMPORTANT: After installing Prime Family Filter, you must configure your browser(s) to connect to the internet through the filter. This is required only the first time you install Prime Family Filter, or in case somebody has changed the proxy settings in your browser. Please eep in mind that if your children now how to change these settings, you should not use the LITE version, because in this way web filtering can be easily disabled. In this case you should use the more powerful PREMIUM version, also available for free download from our web site. Here are step-by-step instructions for the major browsers: If you use Internet Explorer, launch it, then go to the Tools menu and choose Internet Options. Clic on Connections, then on LAN Settings. Enable the box "Use proxy server" and put 127.0.0.1 in the address (host) box and 8503 in the port box. Now clic OK. If you use Netscape Navigator 4, launch it, go to the Edit menu, then Preferences, clic on Advanced, Proxies, Manual Proxy Configuration, View, then put 127.0.0.1 in the HTTP address box and 8503 in its port box. Now clic OK. If you use Netscape Navigator 3, launch it, go to the Options menu, then Networ Preferences, clic on Proxies, Manual Proxy Configuration, View, then put 127.0.0.1 in the HTTP address box (the third box), and 8503 in its port box. Now clic OK. If you use Opera, launch it, go to the File menu, then Preferences, choose Connections, clic on the Proxy Servers button, chec "HTTP" and put 127.0.0.1 in the HTTP box and 8503 in its port box. Now clic OK. After configuring Prime Family Filter, clic on "Hide and run in bac ground" to hide the interface without closing the filter. 2.3. KEYWORDS When Prime Family Filter Lite finds material deemed harmful by us, or if at least one of the user-defined eywords are matched, access to the site is bloc ed, and a fa e 404 "not found" error page is returned. If the offending eywords are found in an internet application (e.g. a chat program), the application is closed immediately. Since Prime Family Filter cannot bloc 100% of all inappropriate, profane, porn or hate oriented internet sites and resources, you have the possibility to enter your own eywords, web addresses, and other things that you want to bloc .

To enter them, you need to log into Prime Family Filter using your password. Please do not add random eywords or site addresses; use this feature only to bloc addresses that you now, and only if you are sure that Prime Family Filter does not already bloc them. 2.4. TIPS If you want to bloc a web site, for example the following URL: http://www.someone.net/users/mi e123/hello.html then you should OMIT the domain name, leaving only users/mi e123/hello.html or, if that domain is a porn hosting site, just enter the domain name without the "www" (in this case, just enter .someone.net). WARNING: inappropriate eywords could result in bloc ing legitimate sites, domains, groups, channels, etc. For example, entering the eyword SEX would bloc porn sites, but also lots of sites that have nothing to do with porn: an example are medical web sites, pages describing the country of Sussex, England (the word SEX is contained in Sussex), and so on. A better way to bloc porn sites would be entering part of the domain name or URL, peculiar words contained in those pages, etc. For example, sites ending in "...nudes.com" can be bloc ed entering the eyword NUDES.COM, and the same goes for file names, html page names, etc. However, sites li e aaa.geocities.com, bbb.geocities.com and ccc.geocities.com can be bloc ed entering .GEOCITIES.COM as eyword, but this would also bloc ALL other GEOCITIES.COM web pages. 2.5. COMPATIBILITY AND SPECIAL NOTES (LITE VERSION) Prime Family Filter Lite is compatible with all Windows versions; please note that it won't wor if SoftIce or other debuggers are running, or if another application is using the same HTTP port (8503). 2.6. WINDOWS NT USERS The NT compatibility issue in versions 1.20 and below has been fixed. 2.7. 3. LEGAL 3.1. BLOCKING

Prime Filtering Technology has the sole right and discretion on whether to deny access through its filtering software to any ind of material, subject, eyword, web or ftp site, discussion group, chat room, file, and/or other internet resource or topic deemed inappropriate by us. Sexual perversion, erotism, porn, fetishism, boylove, hate, profanity, blasphemy, immorality, drugs, gambling, terrorism, violence, nude "art" galleries, queer sites, adult stories, are just a few of the topics that are considered harmful and bloc ed by Prime Family Filter. If you don't li e this, don't download and don't install this software. All responsibility for its use is entirely yours. 3.2. DISTRIBUTION Prime Family Filter is copyrighted software (2001) and YOU MAY NOT sell it alone or as part of another product. Prime Family Filter may be freely distributed, provided that: 1. It is distributed only in its original unmodified state. You may not alter, delete or add any files in the distribution archive. 2. No money is charged to the person receiving the Prime Family Filter software, beyond reasonable cost of pac aging and other overhead. 3.3. LICENSE TERMS FOR PRIME FAMILY FILTER Please read this License Agreement before using this software. By using this software, you are agreeing to be bound by the terms of this License. If you do not agree to these terms, promptly cease all further installation or use of the software. DEFINITIONS In this Agreement, "PFT" means Prime Filtering Technology; "LICENSEE" means you, the licensee of the software; "SOFTWARE" means the Prime Family Filter software, including any technology and utility software licensed by PFT from the developers and owners thereof to PFT, together with all accompanying documentation. LICENSE In consideration of your underta ing to comply with the terms and conditions of this License Agreement, PFT grants you, LICENSEE, a free non-exclusive license to use the Software and to view the documentation on a computer system. It is also agreed that the License granted to the LICENSEE pertaining to Prime Family Filter is non-transferable. LICENSEE may use the Software on a networ server or on more than one computer terminal at the same time. This Agreement does not grant LICENSEE any rights to patents, copyrights, trade secrets, trade names, trade mar s (whether registered or unregistered), or any other rights, functions or licenses in respect of the Software. ENTIRE AGREEMENT This agreement constitutes the entire agreement between you and PFT and supersedes any other prior agreements or communications regarding the Software. If any provision of this agreement is held invalid, the remainder of this agreement shall continue in effect. WAIVER The failure by PFT or any of its licensors to enforce at any time any of the provisions of this agreement, to exercise any election or option provided herein, or to require at any time the performance by you of any of the provisions herein will not in any way be construed as a waiver of such provisions.
