Abstract:

The aim of proposed work is to design a development board for embedded systems suitable for different microcontrollers that are connected through a daughterboard. This Development Board can be used to evaluate and demonstrate the capabilities of various microcontrollers. This is designed to carry out experimental applications and it includes a variety of hardware to exercise microcontroller peripherals. we can connect any port pin to any peripheral. Ideally the Universal Development Board is suitable for training and development purposes.

Keywords: Development board.

Introduction: Research and education activities at department of electronic technology from Polytehnica University Bucharest involve embedded systems design and development. An universal development board should contain all required peripherals for standard embedded systems Applications. Only flash-type microcontrollers were chosen because the goal is a development system so software changes are often.

Development board procedure:

Simulation: The particular microcontroller is to be selected from the families present which have their own pin diagrams and architecture. By using the pin diagram connect the microcontroller to the required peripheral devices and we should interface them and the circuit is to be simulated by running the code on the background of the circuit in multisim and the output should be obtained.

Orcad Schematic: We have to make the schematic from the following outputs obtained by simulating the circuit. They are exported to the orcad capture for the process of schematic and the complete schematics should be made for the process of layout.

Orcad Layout: After the schematic process done then it is to be designed for the layout process of the development board.

Fabrication: By the layout process done the board can be fabricated according to the design we choose to integrate the peripheral devices.

External Connections: The external peripheral devices should be connected to the fabricated board and we should obtain the output.

Results and discussion:

The results we obtained for the this are the simulation outputs of all circuits and the process to be done are schematic process, layout process and fabrication. The results we obtained from the simulation are

Figure 1: output of 7 segment interfacing using multisim

Figure 2: output of regulation and rectification circuit interfacing using multisim

Figure 3: output of LED interfacing using multisim

Figure 4: output of MAX232 interfacing logic using multisim

The obtained outputs should be captured in to the orcad and the schematic process should be done and then the layout and fabrication process.

Conclusion:

Microcontrollers offer simple solutions for control applications at affordable prices. Software development tools for different microcontroller families tend to have similar interfaces, especially if coming from the same software house, but hardware tools (development Boards) are specific to microcontroller families.
