SYLLABUS FOR RESEARCH III SCHOOL YEAR 2010-2011 COURSE DESCRIPTION

Science Research is geared in engaging students apply their science knowledge in seeking ways on how to improve her surroundings. In this course, they will apply the scientific method in coming up with a study that would benefit her surroundings. The focus of this year is on the quantitative aspect of the science research. They will be expected to justify their reasoning, interpret data and numerical summaries of data, and use statistical language to summarize results. They are expected to be able to use the formulas on the formula sheets and the z-table, t-table, chi-square table, and the random digit table throughout the course.

GENERAL OBJECTIVES OF THE SCIENCE RESEARCH PROGRAM As a result of participation in scientific investigation and the science exposition, students would be able :

1. To understand the processes of scientific inquiry and technological design to investigate questions, conduct experiments and solve problems. 2. To collect, organize, and analyze data using statistical methods; predict results; and interpret uncertainty using concepts of probability. 3. To use algebraic and analytical methods to identify and describe patterns and relationships in data, solve problems, and predict result 4. To use the language arts to acquire, assess, and communicate information. 5. To stimulate interest in young people in science, math, and engineering.`
