MASS SCHEDULE
GIRARD Sat. 5:30pm Sun. 10:00 am ARMA 4:00pm 8:00 am

Notes From the Pastor: What a blessing we are receiving this Holy Week! Once more we are ushered into this another opportunity to experience the richness of Gods mercy and love as we recall His Passion, Death, and Resurrection. You must be familiar with the Latin phrase Paschal Triduum. "Paschal" (Latin, paschalis = of or pertaining to the Passover) is the adjective formed from the English word "Pasch", a preferable alternative to the more common "Easter" (Greek and Latin, Pascha, from the Hebrew Pesah or Pesach = Passover). The Latin word triduum is a space or period of three days which includes the Lords Supper on Holy Thursday, the Lords death on Good Friday, and His Resurrection on Easter Sunday. Because this is a week where we are given a chance to experience Gods divine love more deeply in our lives, it is my hope that we will devote our hearts and minds to penance, reflection, and worship more specifically during this three days. On Holy Saturday, we believe that our Lord is not yet risen from the dead. It has been a part of our Catholic tradition to observe a solemn silence and devote our time to prayer and reflection during this day. I am told that the community at large has organized an Easter egg hunt and imparting Easter blessing to children on Holy Saturday morning. While the act themselves are good, yet the timing is contrary to our own Catholic practices. As your pastor, I ask you and especially your children to stick to our Catholic tradition. We have our own Easter Egg hunt on Easter Sunday after the 10AM mass, all of you are invited, young and old alike. Your attendance on Easter Sunday masses are more than an Easter blessing than anyone can give. God bless you all! Fr. Roger ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Holy Week Liturgical Roles Father needs lots of help to fulfill his Holy Week services, so please stop by the back of the Church and sign up for your Liturgical Role. Holy Week Begins This weekend, we begin to relive those sacred days in Jesus' life. He begins His final preparations for our redemption. We gain special graces by being a part of them all week. They are so sacred that the Church does not make them Holy Days of Obligation. If Christ means anything to us, we'll be present at as many observances this week as we can. We shouldn't delude ourselves by saying "I don't have time." Remember Christ's question to Peter, James and John in the Garden of Gethsemane, "Could you not watch one hour with me?" We begin the week by receiving the blessed palms for our homes. We should keep them all year as a sacramental. Last year's palms are kept for next year's Ash Wednesday when they're burned for the ashes. Be sure to place a palm branch in every bedroom of your home to remind you throughout the year that our triumphal entry into Heaven will have to come through the Cross. The Sacred Three Days before Easter are known as the Triduum. Holy Thursday, we relieve the mystery of the institution of Holy Eucharist and Holy Orders, as well as the night of the Last Supper. This was Our Lord's First Mass he ever celebrated for us and with his Apostles. Of all our Christ's miracles up to now, the Mass was at the top of the pyramid! The crib, the cross and the tomb would all go, but the tabernacle would remain. Good Friday. This is the only day in the Church year when there is NO MASS. It is a day of quiet reflection, broken only by the celebration of the Liturgy of the Lord's Passion and Death. What Jesus did that day was explained to me by a priest a few years back: Let's say two men are sentenced to die in the electric chair. By some unknown reason, their sentences are commuted to life. They fall on their knees and cry, "Thank you, Jesus!" We were under the same sentence. All were sentenced to death, but Jesus came and died for us. He commuted our sentences to life! Good Friday is like a wake when someone dies. Stand by the open casket of the cross and pay your respects. That's the way to keep His anniversary--coming to realize how much He did love you, you with all of your sins. Holy Saturday. This is the Easter Vigil, the holiest night of the year! It marks the end of Triduum and the beginning of Eastertime. Our Lord rises and the Church comes to life. These ceremonies are the most beautiful and symbolic of the entire week. Christ, the Light of the World, triumphs over the darkness of sin and death. This week's observances prepare us for Easter Sunday and will bring us closer to our Savior than we've ever been before.
