Title: Teaching Teachers Wikis Topic: MAP Testing and Grade Level Subject/Course: Wikis for Teachers Grade: 1st and 2nd grades Designer(s): Angela Nix

Stage 1- Desired Results Understandings: Teachers will understand how a wiki works, and how information is stored. They will understand how to add information such as documents, pdfs, slideshows, embedded objects, pictures, and comments on the wiki. They will know how to login from anywhere they have internet to access all wiki files. Essential Questions: What is a wiki? Where are the files stored? What is a cloud? How do you add things to a wiki? Why do I need a wiki? What are the benefits to a wiki?

Knowledge Teachers will know how to operate a wiki from the user end Teachers will know how files are stored within the cloud. Teachers will know how to upload an array of digital items to a wiki Teachers will know how to join, login and login of a wiki. Teachers will know the benefits of a wiki.

Skills -Teachers will login to the MAP and grade level wikis. -create documents and upload them to the grade level wiki. - apply what they have learned and share with each other in the grade level. -identify when new things have been uploaded to the wiki. - can print and access all types of digital format within the wiki

Stage 2- Assessment Evidence Performance Tasks: Other Evidence: -Teachers will login and out of grade wiki Comments -Teachers will print and read data from MAP wiki and Uploaded data grade level wiki -Teachers will work collaboratively with each other within the wiki

Unit Outline

Session 1
Show teachers grade-level and MAP wikis. This will excite the teachers that everything is in a centralized location that is accessible from anywhere there is an internet connection. Purpose and Objectives Teachers will explore the wikis in a variety of ways. Teachers will use the wikis as a collaboration and storing tool. Teachers will use wikis as a way to compile their thoughts, comments, solutions, documents, etc Teachers will become familiar with all that a wiki can offer. Structure and Outline Materials: computer lab and SmartBoard Timing: 1hour Structure: whole group lecture and explanation of how to access the MAP wiki. Teachers Will: listen to lecture, create a bookmark under their favorites for MAP wiki, share things they would like to add, express their thoughts on things that need to be added. Procedure 1. Introduce the url of the MAP wiki 2. Show the documents, pdfs, slideshows, and other digital data to teachers. 3. Invite teachers to add their thoughts on ways to make the wiki better. 4. Share with other teachers ways to use the documents within their classroom. Assessment and Monitoring Look for teachers ability to understand the concept of a wiki. Look for their ease of accessing the wiki.

Session 2
Purpose and Objectives Teachers will learn how to login to the grade- level wiki, and how to access, add, or delete files from this wiki. The will learn to collaborate with each other on their grade-level without a meeting,. Structure and Outline Materials: Computer Lab and SmartBoard Timing: 1hour

Structure: whole class lecture Teacher Will: watch how to access grade-level wiki and create login and password for themselves. Media Specialist Will: read, demonstrate, conduct learning, monitor, listen, and record, give instructions. Procedure 1. Introduce the grade-level wiki to teachers 2. Teach them how to create login and password to access wiki ( all teachers will be emailed login invitation form wiki) 3. Allow teachers to login and create a quick profile, show them files and how to access them 4. Designate editors and administrators of the grade-level wiki 5. Show teachers how to download documents from the grade-level wiki Assessment and Monitoring Look for teachers ability to understand the concept of a wiki. Look for their ease of accessing the wiki.
