Once upon a time around the middle of what we thesedays call Europe there was a great little town

called Eger. At those days, almost 600 years before, just like all other towns, Eger had a castle. Around these years and even nowadays Eger does belong to the present-days Hungary. There was nothing special in the town or at the castle from outside to see, it was just one of the morehundred others, an avarage town with a castel for a quite long time exactly untill 1552.. At those times with the leading of Suleiman the Magnificent , Kaptan Pasha (Great Admiral of the entire Ottoman fleet), the turks were expanding their empire through Europe and having conquered the Balkans, thousands and thousands of them were headed west through Hungary They besieged the little city of Eger on their way to Western Europe The townspeople of Eger holed up in their castle Two thousand hungarian soldiers led by their captain Istvn Dob were in the castle with the townspeople... Old and young, men as women were holding together to protect their castel, their lands, their country and so all the western countries of Europe Since nobody could know for how long can it take and how it will end - and offcourse because the hungarians liked music and dancing, tasty flawoursome food with unlimited deliciouse wein they simpley knew how to celebrate and enjoy the life - they decided to have a good time every day from dusk untill daybreak when the turks were resting and their weapons were put down The castle was besieged for a month and since they were running short with food and water, Istvn Dob and his 2,000 hungarian fighters, listened to the elders advice, wich was promoted by fullagree of the wives and dumped all the wine together franconian, merlot, and cabernet, and who knows how many local varietals were mixed together creating a robust beepruby-colored wine The warriors drank it all day long to give them strength to fight off the turks and all night long in order to stay capable of dance and everything else with those lovely generous brides and wives and girls of Eger there was wine spilled all over, even on their beards and onto their clothes and armor coloring them red like blood It is impossible for only 2,000 soldiers to hold off 60,000 or 150,000 or 200,000 turks would everybody say even if the number depends on how much wine you or the teller has been drinking But for Suleiman the Magnificent was this bitter pill the hardest to swallow he was suffering from sleepless nights, what he spent with observeing of his tireless enemy, as they were just having their fun and than he was suddenly enlightened: they all have ruby-colored beards, clothes and armors from what they always drunk, so in this drink must be the secret of the endless power hidden! Without hesitating any secund he sent his most handy, superior spy, the very clever and cute, partly hungarian agent, Kartal to gauge the recipe of this mysterious hungarian elixir As he running arrived the gate of the castle, played to be out of breath he sad with fluent hungarian: let me please in, turks are following me, my name is Klmn The doorkeepers let him rushed in where the curious brides were already gathering the welcome was definitely warmer than usually the famous hungarian hospitality iswe can say it was rather hot! they were eyeing him up one after the other the oldest crone with her one-teeth smirk the youngest dewy beauty with her

perfect smile the flashy mother of 5 children breast-feeding her youngest one the pretty mature and the peachy buxom beauty as well they offered him all kind delicacies of different goods, all what a man just can wish all the women were opsessed by the newcomer they behaved just like mateing pigeons But our adroit soldier was already bondaged from the very first second by a miraculous appearence he just get lost in the entrancing look of the charming and vivacious young hungarian girl named Kincs (=she is a treasure) he simpley couldnt take his eyes off, of this unique creation No wonder that he get drunk before drinking even a drop of wine and in this special atmosphere of excitement he did not even realised when he first tasted the winegrape nectar of Eger the original reason of his visits But after three restless days and nights, spent in the sweet steaming state of wein and love, just eating and drinking and having a lots of fun. a messenger pigeon came to the spy, with the script of Suleiman the Magnificent, and urged Klmn to report about the resaults of his investigations, formulated very fearfuly and brief : Either you present me the secret of the red-like-blood elixir till this nightfall or you will beheaded! Leaded by a sudden idea, based on Suleiman the Magnificents own discription, and because our pour guy in love was having nothing to lose after all, he answered as followe: I am captured and doomed. I wish I would have never wanted to know the secret of these faithless hungarians!!! All who have experienced their elixir will be damned till the end of time, their bloodlust could never be sated and they all will turn into the same fierce beasts like the hungarians are!!! Kaptan Pasha the Magnificient! These faithless monsters are drinking the blood of bulls in order to become stronger, and to get super-human strength and endurance. There is neither grace nor exception, I am also already hopeless lost, but for You there is still a chance to escape with the help of Allah. Run and do not stop until entering our empire and warn all faithfull followers of Allah to the danger of the hungarian faithless beasts! Understandably was Suleiman the Magnificent and all turks shocked. Superstition and faith forced the turks to stop the siege and give up the battle. They retreat and turned back immedaiately to the Ottoman Empire. So is it told by the legend of Egri Bikavr, a legend of wine, history, traditions and love with heroics, faith, habits and the eternal plays of male-female parts .
