SPECIFIC PURPOSE To inform my audience of the crisis of same gender marriage in Malaysia CENTRAL IDEA Knowing the nature,

disadvantages and solutions of same gender marriage help us to understand that it is a serious condition that affects our community.

INTRODUCTION ISince 2001, ten countries have begun allowing same gender couples to marry nationwide

such as Argentina, Belgium, Canada , Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, South Africa and Sweden. Same gender marriages are also performed and recognized in Mexico City and parts of the United States. IIIIIGood morning everyone, today I am going to talk about same gender marriage. For the past few years, I have read a lot about same gender marriage and I did additional

research for this speech. IVToday I would like to inform you my 3 points which are first is the nature of same gender

marriage, second is the disadvantages of same gender marriage and third is the solutions that we need to take in order to solve this problem. (Transition: Lets start with my first point which is the nature of same gender marriage.)

BODY 1. NATURE For the entire history of civilization, marriage has been defined as being between a man and a woman. Throughout that history, almost all civilization has regarded marriage as central to their survival. Mostly the people who supported the same gender marriage believed that it should be legalized by the authority because denying them is a violation of religious freedom as civil and religious marriages are two separate institutions, denying this marriage is a form of minority discrimination as it does not hurt society or anyone in particular, the only thing that should matter in marriage is love. The number one reason that heterosexuals marry is not to establish legal status, allow joint filing of taxes, or protect each other in medical decision-making. They marry because it is the ultimate expression of a person's love for another. Marriage is a commitment that says "I love you so much that I want to live the rest of my life with you. I want to share the ups and downs, forsake all others, and be together until death do us part." Should it matter that the couple doesn't fit into what society is used to? Some people talk about living wills and other legal contracts that can give same gender couples essentially the same rights as a married couple. If that is the case, why don't all heterosexual couples use these legal maneuvers instead of marriage? Just maybe there's something more to it.

(Transition: Lets move to my second point which is the disadvantages of same gender marriage.) 2. DISADVANTAGES i. Most religions consider same gender marriage a sin Virtually every religion in the world considers same gender marriage unacceptable. It is offensive and a swipe to the religious freedom of the majority to have to recognize a relationship they consider sinful. The legal system in our country evolved out of the laws contained in the Holy Quran and Bible. We should not go even farther to tear down those laws.

ii.

It could provide a slippery slope in the legality of marriage (e.g. having multiple wives or marrying an animal could be next). Same gender couple activists claim that these marriages should be allowed because it doesn't hurt anyone, but it could start a chain reaction that destroys the whole idea of marriage when if someone wants to marry his dog, why shouldn't he be able to? What if someone wants to marry their brother or parent? What if someone wants to marry their blow-up doll or have 10 wives? This is definitely not making sense unless we develop some firm definition of what a marriage is, the options are endless. If these options sound absurd, remember that all it takes is a few activist judges to use the statute to open the door. It doesn't matter if 95 percent of the population disagrees with the policy, one judge can interpret the case the way he or she wants.

iii.

The same gender couple lifestyle is not something to be encouraged, as a lot of research shows it leads to a much lower life expectancy, psychological disorders, and other problems. Studies show that same gender couple, for a variety of reasons, has life expectancies of approximately 20 years less than the general population. Just like a lifestyle of smoking, drinking, etc., unhealthy lifestyles should be discouraged. So we can conclude that same gender marriage is not sustainable for long run marriage.

(Transition: Lets move to my third point which is the solution that we need to take in order to prevent this matter from getting worse.) 3. SOLUTIONS i. Constitutional amendment to define marriage as only between a man and a woman. We need a constitutional amendment as to define marriage as only between a man and a woman would limit the marriage for only opposite sex couple. This slowly will help to abolish the same gender marriage. Enforcement of law that prohibits same gender marriage also needed.

ii.

Religious education Religious education referring to teaching about religions and its varied aspects about beliefs, doctrines, rituals, customs, rites, and personal roles. If the children had been exposed and inculcated the religious education since in the

young age, they will grow up having a strong mind and physical spiritually, and any social problems like same gender couples problem is hard to influence them.

iii.

Parental control Parents play a big role in educating their children. Having a good parental control, it will ensure that our children will be in safe condition and not easily influenced by any bad thing since the parents watch their children development and the probability for the children to be involved in social problem such as same gender couple is low.

CONCLUSION To sum up, as you can see same gender marriage will give serious consequences that would affect our community because most religious consider same gender marriage as a sin, it also could provide a slippery slope in the legality of marriage and same gender couple lifestyle is not something to be encouraged, as a lot of research shows it leads to a much lower life expectancy, psychological disorders, and other problems.
