School Mission: Melahirkan pelajar yang cemerlang dalam aspek kurikulum. To produce excellent students in the curriculum aspect. Melahirkan lebih ramai pelajar yang dapat bersaing ke peringkat kebangsaan dan antarabangsa dalam aspek kokurikulum. To produce more students that can compete in the national and international level in the co-curriculum aspect. Mencapai tahap pengurusan cemerlang dalam aspek 3K. School History SMK Datu Paduka Mat Salleh Ranau is the biggest school in Ranau and also one of the biggest schools in Sabah. This school was completed in the year 1962 and started to receive students earlier that year. The idea to build this school was voiced by the late Haji Ruman Limbogot during the yearly USNO meeting. At first the school was named Government Junior Secondary School but it was later changed to Government Secondary School as it began to provide education for those in secondary school. In 1972 until 1978, there were two medium of language in school which are the Malay language and English language. Starting from 1979, the school began to use Malay language fully as the language medium. In 1974, the name of the school was changed to SMK Ranau but later in 1977 it was changed back to SMK Mat Salleh until this very day.

4 Kreatif Class Plan Writing Board door door 1. Describe how teaching and learning tools are located in the class and how it is used. The main learning tool in the class will be the writing board itself which is placed in the middle front of the class so that students can have a clear view on the lesson they are learning. Teacher used it as a teaching aid in presenting students with highlighted information. 2. What are the materials that students can use? The materials that students can use are their textbooks, notebooks and stationeries to write. 3. How far are students allowed to move about in the class? Students movements are restricted while the lesson is happening. 4. Identify how students are divided in groups. The teachers gave the student the freedom to sit in their own group of choice so that they can be more comfortable in learning. 5. What are the differences that can be seen in both classes? The only difference is the amount of student in a classroom. Teachers Table

6. What makes it different? For 4 Kreatif, the students present during my observation were only half of the class while for 4 Tekun most of the students were present in class. According to the other teachers, 4 Kreatif is accommodated with low level students while 4 Tekun is a Science stream class which leads to the significant differences in both classes.

5.1.3 Rules and School Discipline 1. School Attendance It is compulsory for students to go to school and participate in activities organized by the school. Students will be considered truant even if they are ABSENT for ONE DAY without ANY VALID REASON. If they are absent for THREE CONSECUTIVE DAYS or A TOTAL OF FIVE DAYS in a month, the school will take action against the students. The school takes truancy as a serious matter as it involves students safety and the schools authority. It is compulsory for students to attend the weekly and daily assembly.

2. Jewellery, Money & Identification Card Students are prohibited to wear any jewelry to school. Teachers can confiscate the jewelries and only parents or the guardian are allowed to take it back. Students are advised to not bring a large sum of money for safety purposes. Students are not allowed to bring their identification card and only bring the photocopy unless needed for exams.(PMR,SPM,STPM) The school will not be held responsible for any lost cases involving the above items as it is not allowed to bring or wear to the school.

3. Formal School Attire Female students are only allowed to wear Baju Kurung. (White and blue) White socks above the ankle with no pattern. White canvas shoes with no pattern. Muslim female students must wear hijab. Male students must wear white short-sleeve T-Shirt and long dark green trousers.

5.2 PART TWO: TEACHING & MANAGEMENT SKILL A. CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT Make observations on two teacher teaching two different subjects. Observe how they give out task whether by classifying them or give in small groups. Answer the following questions: 1. How do students pay attention? Students pay attention by referring to their textbook and listening to the teachers explanation. 2. How do students involve in discussion? The students get involve in discussion enthusiastically by answering questions from the teacher and in return asking questions back if they find it difficult to understand. 3. How does the teacher give emphasis while teaching? The teacher gives emphasis by using loud voice and repetition so that students are aware of the important bits while learning. 4. Are the instructions given to the students clear? Explain. In both of the classes I observed, the instructions given were very clear as the teacher uses loud voice to catch students interest. Students can hear and understand the instructions clearly. 5. Are the instructions given to the students in completing their task effective? From what I can see, it is effective as the students can do what they are assigned to do. 6. How does the teacher manage the discipline problems and the classroom when students have finished their work? In managing discipline problems, teacher walks around the classroom to ensure that the classroom is under control. 7. How does the teacher handles the students from one activity to another? Teacher explains what they are going to do next before moving on so that students will pay attention. 8. How does the teacher prepares the students to complete the task given to them? Before the teacher gives task to the students, the teacher first asked them if there are any questions about the lesson. 9. How does the teacher end the lesson? The teachers end the lesson by giving them homework to do at home so that they can revise what they have learned in the classroom.

From the observation made, explain what are the advantages and disadvantages, similarities and differences that can be seen from both of the situation. State what you can learn from them. Among the similarities that I can see after doing my observation are students being cooperative in both classes where they participate in every activity in class despite their level in terms of English language proficiency. When teachers ask questions, they try to answer as much as they know and participate as the lesson goes on. Another similarity is that female students seem to be more enthusiastic compared to male students when asking questions about things they are not clear about. The difference in these classes is the amount of students in each class during the lesson. Since one of the classes is a science stream class, a majority of the students are present for school as opposed to the other class where only half of the class went to school on daily basis. The advantage that can be seen from both situations is that as long as teachers have the initiatives to teach, students will benefit a lot in terms of knowledge. The disadvantage is teachers facing students with different attitudes. Doing observation in these two classes definitely taught me more about the teaching profession and classroom management. Most of all, when teaching it is important to give it your best and teach with your heart so that students will not only benefit but they will also be more motivated to learn.

5.3 PART THREE: PHYSICAL FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT After touring the school, there are quite a number of facilities in the school. Among the facilities that can be found in this school are Science and computer labs, library, ERT room, KH room, art room where students and teachers can use to facilitate teaching and learning.

REFLECTION What are the factors that can lead to effective teaching thus motivates students to learn? Effective teaching involves having the understanding of how and why certain activities lead to learning. It involves teacher using their knowledge on teaching skills and combination of subject-matter that can lead to effective teaching (Kyriacou,1997). According to Gurney(2007), there are five factors that provide a foundation to good teaching. These factors are: i) ii) iii) iv) v) Teacher knowledge, enthusiasm and responsibility for learning. Classroom activities that encourage learning. Assessment activities that encourage learning through experiences. Effective feedback that establishes the learning processes in the classroom. Effective interaction between the teacher and the students, creating an environment that respects, encourage and stimulates learning through experiences.

We will look at these factors one by one and how it can lead to effective teaching and helps students to have motivation in learning. The first factor would be the teachers knowledge and enthusiasm when it comes to teaching. Without the knowledge of the subject matter, it will be hard for teachers to be excellent in their teaching. From what I can learn during my two week in school, teachers above all other must be knowledgeable so that students can

gain a lot after some time of learning. Teachers must also be enthusiasm in order to be effective in teaching. With teachers enthusiasm when it comes to learning, students will have the desire to learn and be critically thinking. As long as teacher have the knowledge, enthusiastic and responsible when it comes to teaching, it will result in excellent teaching. The second factor is classroom activities that encourage learning.
