NYS Masters is March 24 Winner to Receive $2,500

OWEGO The 22nd annual New York State Masters Championship, a scratch singles tournament open to men and women members of the New York State USBC, will take place March 24 at Owego Bowl in this suburb of Binghamton. First prize is $2,500 plus a paid entry and $200 in expense money for the 2013 United States Bowling Congress Masters. Five-game qualifying squads are scheduled for 9 a.m., noon and 3 p.m., with head-to-head match play finals to follow. The entry fee is $95 for the first entry and $85 for re-entry. One reentry is permitted as long as there is room on the squad. Were hoping for another good turnout, said Mike Pettinella, NYS USBC association manager, noting that the Masters drew 91 entries in 2010 in Batavia and 112 entries last year in Schenectady. Thanks to this years sponsor, A.L. George, distributor of Coors Light, we will be able to put an additional $1,000 into the prize fund. Pettinella said that one in five bowlers from each squad will advance to the finals, which features two-game, single elimination total pins matches. The lane condition for this years tournament is the 2009 Bowling This Month Tournament pattern a 39-foot pattern with a 1:1 ratio across the entire lane. The oil is distributed evenly across the lane theres no wall in the middle to help the ball to the pocket, Pettinella said. Keeping the ball in play and making spares will be vital to a bowlers success. Joe Mazuryk of Delanson (near Albany) won the tournament last year. Entry forms can be obtained at www.bowlny.com.
