To write the Past Simple and the Past Participle of regular verbs you need to consider the following:
* = This verb ends in letter e , so you add d only. # = This verb is short, ends in one consonant and is preceded by only one vowel ( a, e, i, o ,u ),then you need to double the consonant first, then you add ed. + = As this verb ends in two consonants, has two vowels together or separate it simply takes ed without making any

alterations to the spelling of the Infinitive. It is the easiest one to write. = This verb ends in Y, but the Y is preceded by a consonant, so you drop the Y and then add ied. = This verb ends in Y, but the Y is preceded by a vowel, so you only add ed. NOTE: The pronunciation of the Past Simple and the Past Participle of regular verbs presents the most problem to foreign students of English. The ed particle has three different ways to pronounce it. If the final sound in the Infinitive form is either a /d/ or a / t / the particle ed sound =/id/. If the final sound in the Infinitive form is /z / =analyze /k/ = cook / f / = laugh /d / = change / s/= practise // = wish /p/= stop /t/ = dispatch

the ed sounds = /t/ C) If the final sound in the Infinitive form is /b/= bribe /v/ =live /m/ = climb /n/ = can /r / = stare / l / =call / I / = study /u/ = queue /g/ = bag the ed sounds = /d/
