HORNBY ONE YEAR SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME


INDIA AND SRILANKA A S HORNBY EDUCATIONAL TRUST The Hornby Schools have been established by the British C ouncil who use joint funding to support the objectives of the A S Hornby Educational Trust. The Trust was established in 1961 by A.S.Hornby, an English language teacher in Japan, who authored the first Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary (OALD) The Hornby Trust also provides two scholarship places on a year's course in ELT in the UK and applications have been invited for submission by 20th March 2012. The selection panel will consider candidates across Asia to short list candidates to be interviewed before the final selection is made. Interviews will take place March 23rd 2012 Candidates should: have successfully completed an undergraduate degree course equivalent to a Bachelors Degree in the UK (certification must be provided as part of each candidate s application) have at least 5 years hands-on and direct experience as an English language teacher/teacher trainer (as opposed to experience only in a management role, such as co-ordinating policy or running a school) have been involved in some sort of developmental work as trainers or managers have attained an overall minimum Band score 6.5 on the International English Language Testing Service (IELTS), with no less than 6 in any of the categories. Intend to study for a full time UK based ELT Diploma or Masters degree. Hornby Trust funding is only available for full time UK based ELT

Requests for Application forms and Declaration of Health should be made to the British C ouncil office closest to you or downloaded at http://www.britishcouncil.org/india-english-hornby.htm The last date for receiving applications is 20th March 2012. No applications will be accepted after this date. Each application must be accompanied by: Two supporting references one must be from the current employer C ertified copies of degree certificates / transcripts where relevant A full up-to-date C urriculum Vitae

Applications which are not supported by the required documentation will not be considered. C andidates will be placed in one of these colleges: University of Birmingham, Lancaster, Leeds, University C ollege Plymouth, St Mark and St John (Marjon) and University of Warwick. However, there is no guarantee that candidates will be placed at their first choice university. It is preferred that candidates applying will have sat the ILELTS test. If the chosen candidate does not have an IELTS score already, they should be prepared to sit for the exam around 31 March. Failure to sit the test and obtain the appropriate score will lead to a withdrawal of any previous offer of scholarship. Please note that the candidate must not communicate directly with the UK institution, other than request information on that university's courses.
