Before You Start...Tips Sew with motor at half speed. Tape down the slide on the attachment to keep it from accidentally moving. Test stitches on a sample swatch. Adjust the balance as needed for each stitch. Be sure to keep the fabric flat as you sew. Create the Decorative Stitching Remove paper backing from Stabil-Stick and attach to wrong side of basket fabric. Save the paper for later. Wind two bobbinsone with white thread and one with the thread to plan to use for the outside edge of the basket. Install Circular Embroidery Attachment #83 on the sewing machine. Adjust the center pin 1.75 from the center needle position. Keep this position until told to adjust. Attach the paper from the back of the stabilizer to the center pin. Sew using a straight stitch and no threadthis creates a template for the center circle.

Move the center pin two positions to the left. You can feel each notch as you move the attachment. Select a decorative stitch and sew completely around circle. Repeat, moving center pin two positions to the left and selecting a different decorative stitch for each circle. TIPS For a lace effect, select a straight stitch scallop (artista #719). W = D, L = 2.5, N = D, B = A, T = 3.5. Stitch around three times for a lacy effect. Then select a triple straight stitch (artista #6). W = D, L = D, N = far left, B = A, T = 2.5. Stitch at the base of the straight stitch scallops.

Select a beading stitch (artista 134). W = D, L = D, N = D, B = A, T = 3.5. Stitch. Change thread color, select triple straight stitch (artista #6). W = D, L = 3.5, N = D, B = D, T = 3.5. Stitch through the center of the beading stitch. Remove the fabric from the attachment. Change thread color; change bobbin thread to match. Move the center pin two positions to the left. Press the basket fabric from the wrong side. Spray wrong side of lining with 101 Quilt Basting Spray and adhere it to the wrong side of the basket fabric. From the right side of the fabric, stick a pin through the marked center to the wrong side. Mark the center of the lining fabric. Reattach the fabric to the attachment. Select a zigzag stitch (artista #2). W = 2, L = 1.5, N = D, B = D, T = D. Stitch around outer edge of basket. Cut away fabric edge along stitching.

Return to the inner circle. Move the center pin so that the needle is centered over the previous stitching. Select a zigzag stitch (artista #2). W = 4.0, L = 0.6 (if using Isacord, L = 0.4 to 0.5), N = left two poisitions, B = D, T = 4.0. Stitch.

Complete the Embellished Basket Divide the circle into eight equal sections.

Select a zigzag stitch (artista #2). W = 3.5, L = 1.5, N = D, B = D, T = D. Attach Open Embroidery Foot #20/20C to the machine. Place the crochet cotton along the edge of the basket while stitching, encasing it along the edge for a nicely finished edge. Select a zigzag stitch (artista #2). W = 4.0, L = 0.6 (if using Isacord, L = 0.4 to 0.5), N = D, B = D, T = 3.25. Stitch around the entire basket two time to complete the finished edge. Pin and sew one section at a time! Bring wrong sides together along each marked section and sew down about 2.5 using seam allowances.

Handle Mark the center of the jumbo welting cord with a red marker. Fold fabric strips in half lengthwise, right sides together, with cording sandwiched in the middle. Leave a bit of cord exposed at the top; attach a large safety pin to this end of the cord so it will not creep into the casing as you sew. Stitch with a seam allowance. Stitch to the end, leaving a bit of cord exposed at the end. Gently push fabric along the cord until the red mark is visible.

Fold under a of fabric at the loose end of the casing. Stitch across the loose end of the fabric casing, through the cording.

Cut off the extra, uncovered cording.

Stitch handles inside the basket, near the base. Bow Set the machine for a zigzag stitch (artista #2). W = 3.6, L = 1.5, N = full left, T = 6. Sew along both long edges of the 2 x 24 strips with the cut edge of the fabric next to the center edge of the right toe of the foot. Sew at a slow to moderate speed. The fabric will roll up and over itself, creating a rolled and whipped hem. Cut the strip into two 2 x 10 strips. Fold each strip right sides together and stitch across the edge.

Sew across the fabric, through the cord, next to the red mark.

Gently slide the fabric back over the red mark, esposing the right side of the casing. Adjust as you go, shirring the fabric over the cord until you reach the end of the cord.

Cut two 1 x 2 pieces from the remaining fabric. Fold over the raw edges. Wrap this around the center of the bow and hand stitch the edges.

Stitch to the upper edge of the basket.
