Mobile phones and two-way radios may interfere with the vehicle electronics, thereby jeopardising the vehicle's operating safety and therefore your own safety if you operate them: I without an exterior aerial I without an exterior aerial that is fitted such as to be reflectionfree I with an incorrectly fitted exterior aerial Due to the increased levels of electromagnetic radiation there is also a risk to your health and the health of others.

! Mercedes-Benz recommends that,

for safety reasons, telephones or twoway radios be installed in accordance with the Mercedes-Benz installation specifications.

Work carried out incorrectly on electronic equipment and its software could cause this equipment to malfunction. The electronic systems are networked via interfaces. It is possible that tampering with these electronic systems could also cause malfunctions in systems that have not been modified. Malfunctions such as these could even jeopardise the operating safety of your vehicle and thereby increase the risk to your own safety. Always have any required programming of electronic components carried out at a qualified specialist workshop which has the necessary specialist knowledge and tools to carry out the work required. Mercedes-Benz recommends that you use a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre for this purpose. In particular, work relevant to safety or on safety-related systems must be carried out at a qualified specialist workshop.

Work on or modifications to the vehicle which are carried out incorrectly may impair the vehicle's operating safety. Some safety systems only operate when the engine is running. For this reason, you should not switch off the engine when driving. Two-way radios, fare indicators, control systems, printers and any other electrical/electronic equipment may only be fitted at a qualified specialist workshop which has the necessary specialist knowledge and tools to carry out the work required. Mercedes-Benz recommends that you use a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre for this purpose.

Various warning stickers are affixed to your vehicle. Their purpose is to draw your attention, and the attention of others, to various dangers. Therefore, do not remove any warning stickers unless the sticker clearly states that you may do so. If you remove the warning stickers, you or others could be injured by failing to recognise certain dangers.

If it is permitted to operate two-way radios while the vehicle is in motion, this may only be done when road and traffic conditions allow. You could otherwise be distracted from the traffic, cause an accident and injure yourself and others.

Fittings for two-way radio handsfree facility* The fittings for the two-way radio hands-free facility consist of the twoway radio pushbutton switch on the lower section of the centre console and the electret microphone on the rearview mirror base.

To speak: press and hold two-way radio pushbutton switch 2 until you have finished speaking. Indicator lamp 1 lights up and the radio is muted.

i On vehicles with a manual transmission, the two-way radio pushbutton switch is located behind the gear lever.

To receive: release two-way radio pushbutton switch 2. Indicator lamp 1 goes out and the two-way radio hands-free facility is ready to receive once more.

Switching from taxi operation to private use Use the buttons on the multi-function steering wheel. If you switch from taxi operation to private use, the taxi-specific settings (e.g. integrated two-way radio*) are deactivated. This means that no two-way radio control panel messages are displayed in the instrument cluster during private use.

If you then unlock the vehicle with the unlocking button on the remote control, the roof sign lighting switches on again. You can have this setting changed at a qualified specialist workshop, e.g. a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre. The vehicle is equipped with undervoltage protection. If the battery voltage is too low, the roof sign lighting is automatically switched off. A warning message appears in the instrument cluster if the engine is off (e page 61). You can operate the integrated twoway radio using the numeric keypad on the factory-fitted radio* or the multifunction steering wheel. Complete the input of figures into the factory-fitted radio* by pressing the ESC or OK keys.

External destination input Depending on the service provider chosen, the automatic route guidance data for an external destination entry can be entered in the integrated twoway radio. You can cancel an active route guidance in order to enter an external destination using the integrated two-way radio (see the separate operating instructions for the two-way radio). Switching off the integrated twoway radio Use the buttons on the multi-function steering wheel.

i If you lock the vehicle from the outside, the integrated two-way radio switches off automatically after approximately 30 minutes. You can have this time limit changed at a qualified specialist workshop, e.g. at a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre.

To enable practically interferencefree radio communications, set the noise suppressor in the two-way radio to between 7 dBV and 6 dBV (450 and 500 nV at 50 ).

be guaranteed if you use a two-way radio with the noise suppressor set to below 7 dBV (500 nV at 50 ).

! The roof aerial (D network/E network/UMTS, GPS reception and radio in the 2 m or 70 cm waveband) is not suitable for an automatic car wash. You must remove the roof aerial rod before putting the vehicle through an automatic car wash.

To remove the roof aerial rod: turn roof aerial rod anti-clockwise 2. To fit the roof aerial rod: turn the roof aerial rod clockwise 1 and tighten it finger-tight to a maximum torque of 1.5 Nm.

i To make it easier to install the fare

indicator, depress the brake pedal and shift the automatic transmission selector lever to N or D. Engage 6th gear on vehicles with manual transmission. If your vehicle has fare indicator fittings in the centre console, the ashtray is located in front of the armrest. If your vehicle also has the integrated two-way radio* (code 941), there is no ashtray in the front of the vehicle. In vehicles equipped with international taxi fittings (code 450) and hire car fittings (code 965): if you have ordered your vehicle without fare indicator fittings in the centre console (code 336), no fare indicator bracket will be fitted. Instead, the ashtray will be fitted as standard. The connector plug for the fare indicator is located in the area below the ashtray, see Removing the ashtray (e page 29).

Guide the connector plug on the centre console (cable is tied back) through the opening in the mounting frame and connect the fare indicator. Pin assignment for the fare indicator connector plug (e page 46).

To secure the HALE Microtax 05: insert the fare indicator into the mounting frame. Screw the fare indicator securely into place using the screws (provided by the fare indicator manufacturer in the installation kit). Use mounting holes 4. To secure the Kienzle Argo 1150/1155: drill through mounting holes 5 using a 5 mm drill. Insert the fare indicator into the mounting frame.

Insert the mounting frame and the fare indicator into the centre console. Screw the mounting frame firmly into place using screws 1. Reconnect the battery. Disconnect the quiescent current retention unit. Carry out a function check on the device.

Using foam, lay the cable so that it does not rattle. Follow the instructions in reverse order to refit the overhead control panel.

Move frame 5 to the uppermost position of the front guide and tighten hexagon nut 1 lightly.

Slide the two-way radio into frame 5 and align. Mark the position at which the Velcro strip should be attached to the two-way radio. Remove the two-way radio from frame 5 and stick the Velcro strips onto the two-way radio as marked. Slide the two-way radio into frame 5 again and align. Push retaining bar 4 down so that the two Velcro surfaces interlock, and tighten hexagon nuts 2. The two-way radio must be securely seated in frame 5.

Before securing hexagon nuts 1 permanently, you can adjust the angle of the two-way radio - depending on its type and size - by means of the rear guide.

Once the position of the radio is adjusted as desired, tighten hexagon nuts 1 and 3. Reconnect the battery. Disconnect the quiescent current retention unit. Carry out a function check on the two-way radio. Two-way radio operation (e page 22).

Changing the batteries The remote control can no longer be used to trigger the emergency alarm system* if the remote control batteries are discharged. It is advisable to have the batteries changed at a qualified specialist workshop, e.g. at a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre. You can obtain suitable batteries from a qualified specialist workshop, e.g. a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre. You can also have the batteries changed there and return old batteries. In many EU countries and in some other countries, retail outlets are legally obliged to take back old batteries. Changing the remote control batteries You require two CR 2025 3 V cell batteries.

Risk of poisoning

Do not run the engine in enclosed spaces. Breathing in exhaust fumes is hazardous to your health and can lead to unconsciousness and death.

Risk of poisoning

Batteries contain toxic and caustic substances. For this reason, keep batteries away from children. If a battery is swallowed, consult a doctor immediately.

Environmental note

Do not dispose of batteries with the household rubbish. They contain highly toxic substances. Take them to a qualified specialist workshop or a special collection point for old batteries.

Insert new batteries 4 into cover 1. Use a lint-free cloth to do this. Place cover 1 on the battery compartment of the remote control. Turn cover 1 to the stop in the direction of arrow 3. Check the remote control functions on the vehicle.

Only use fuses that have been approved for Mercedes-Benz vehicles and which have the correct amperage for the system concerned. Do not attempt to repair or bridge faulty fuses. There is otherwise a risk of fire caused by overloading. Have the cause traced and rectified at a qualified specialist workshop, e.g. a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre. If the newly inserted fuse also blows, have the cause traced and rectified at a qualified specialist workshop, e.g. a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre.
