0 Introduction
Open source refers to a program in which the source code is available to the general public for use and/or modification from its original design free of charge, i.e., open. Open source code is typically created as a collaborative effort in which programmers improve upon the code and share the changes within the community. Open source sprouted in the technological community as a response to proprietary software owned by corporations. Software is a computer instruction or data. Anything that can be stored electronically is software. Hardware refers to objects that you can actually touch, like disks, disk drives, display screens, keyboards, printers, boards, and chips.

2.0 The Latest Open Source Operating System (OS) 2.1 Meaning of Open Source OS
An Open Source OS is a type of operating system which is developed distributed under one of a number of licenses which ensure that anyone who gets it may get and change the source code as they see fit. That means you are free to charge money for it -- and you can expect that someone might distribute it for free. Thus an Open Source OS is an OS usually created cooperatively by several vendors which is completely customizable because you have access to the source code.

2.2 Examples of Open Source OS

An example of open source OS is Ubuntu,it is a computer operating system based on the Debian Linux distribution and distributed as free and open source software. It is named after the Southern African philosophy of Ubuntu ("humanity towards others").Ubuntu is designed primarily for use on personal computers, although a server edition also exists.Ubuntu is sponsored by the UK-based company Canonical Ltd., owned by South African entrepreneur

Mark Shuttleworth. Canonical generates revenue by selling technical support and services related to Ubuntu, while the operating system itself is entirely free of charge. The Ubuntu project is committed to the principles of free software development; people are encouraged to use free software, improve it, and pass it on.

The development of Linux is one of the most prominent examples of free and open source software collaboration: the underlying source code may be used, modified, and distributed commercially or non-commerciallyby anyone under licenses such as the GNU General Public License. Typically Linux is packaged in a format known as a Linux distribution for desktop and server use. Some popular mainstream Linux distributions include Debian (and its derivatives such as Ubuntu), Fedora and openSUSE. Linux distributions include the Linux kernel, supporting utilities and libraries and usually a large amount of application software to fulfill the distribution's intended use.

3.0 The Latest Open Source Application System 3.1 Meaning Of Open Source Application Software
Open source application software can defined as the general designation of computer programs for performing user tasks where is an approach to the design, development, and distribution of software, offering practical accessibility to a softwares source code.

3.2 Example Of Open Source Application Software

Mozilla Firefox is an example of free and open source application software which is a web

browser descended from the Mozilla Application Suite and managed by Mozilla Corporation. As of November 2011, Firefox is the third most widely used browser, according to different estimates, with approximately 25% of worldwide usage share of web browsers. The browser has had particular success in Germany where it is the most popular browser with 50%.Firefox runs on various operating systems including Microsoft Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, FreeBSD, and many other platforms. Its current stable release is version 9.0.1, released on December 21, 2011.

Another open source application softare is Picasa. Picasa is an image organizer and image viewer for organizing and editing digital photos, plus an integrated photo-sharing website, originally created by Idealab in 2002 and owned by Google since 2004. "Picasa" is a blend of the name of Spanish painter Pablo Picasso, the phrase mi casa for "my house", and "pic" for pictures (personalized art). In July 2004, Google acquired Picasa and began offering it as a free download. As of December 2011, the latest version of Picasa is 3.9, which supports Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7, and has Google+-integration.

4.0 The Latest Development in ICT 4.1 Hardware

Kinect is a motion sensing input device by Microsoft for the Xbox 360 video game console and Windows PCs. Based around a webcam-style add-onperipheral for the Xbox 360 console, it enables users to control and interact with the Xbox 360 without the need to touch a game controller, through a natural user interface using gestures and spoken commands. Kinect builds on software technology developed internally by Rare, a subsidiary of Microsoft Game Studiosowned by Microsoft, and on range camera technology by Israeli developer PrimeSense, which developed a system that can interpret specific gestures, making completely hands-free control of electronic devices possible by using an infrared projector and camera and a special microchip to track the movement of objects and individuals in three dimension. This 3D scanner system called Light Coding employs a variant of image-based 3D reconstruction.

4.2 Software

5.0 Pervasive Computing 5.1 Meaning Of Pervasive Computing

Refers to the use of computers in everyday life, including PDAs, smartphones and other mobile devices. It also refers to computers contained in commonplace objects such as cars and appliances and implies that people are unaware of their presence. One of the Holy Grails of this environment is that all these devices communicate with each other over wireless networks without any interaction required by the user.

5.2 Examples of Pervasive Computing

An example of pervasive computing is smartphone.A smartphone is a cellular telephone with an integrated computer and other features not originally associated with telephones, such as an operating system, Web browsing and the ability to run software applications. The first smartphone was IBM's Simon, which was presented as a concept device (rather than a consumer device) at the 1992 COMDEX computer industry trade show.

Another example is the PDA - personal digital assistant, also known as a palmtop computer, or personal data assistant, is a mobile device that functions as a personal information manager. Current PDAs often have the ability to connect to the Internet. A PDA has an electronic visual display, enabling it to include a web browser, but some newer models also have audio capabilities, enabling them to be used as mobile phones or portable media players. Many PDAs can access the Internet, intranets or extranets via Wi-Fi or Wireless Wide Area Networks. Many PDAs employ touchscreen technology.

6.0 Conclusion
Open Source can be used by anyone and because it has no copyright claims, so usersare free to use, change, and improve the software, and to redistribute it in modified or unmodified forms. Pervasive Computing is to make our lives easier because we can interactwith computers. Besides that, we can easily give the computer commands and the computer will grant your wish.
