Lauren Johnston Mr.

Kientz Advanced English/ Period 4 January 31, 2012 Closing Remarks It is in my duty to my client to help them with their case. In no matter the circumstances my services are to this man , Tom Robinson. This young black man is respectful and in no way guilty of the charges made by the Ewells. Im sure as a Negro in the society, that this claim could be difficult because of our racial diversity. Since, in the court of law justice is blind, this man is in no way to be reflected upon as guilty by the color of his skin, as without a doubt he is innocent. Mr. Tate, Mr. Ewell , and Miss Mayella have contradicting testimonies , as for the injuries that she has sustained. Mr. Tate and Mr. Ewell have testified that Mr. Robinson has hit this girl on the right side of the face, when the supposed victim has said it was her left. If the witnesses and victim cannot even provide the right injuries, the medical records would be viewed. In this case , no doctor or any sort of medical help was obtained, leaving only the misleading testimonies to be relied on. With Tom Robinson being accused of this crime as a black man in this town, an unbiased view would be hoped for. As my job consists of truth and justice, I feel that this court room should remain neutral, and keep their prejudices outside of this case. In these times, everyone has different values , especially regarding race. The only thing this jury and peers should be and only concerned with is the facts and sheer justice of our current situation between the accused and the plaintiff. Tom Robinson is respectful and extremely devoted to his family. He has the income and the father role of the household. How do you think his wife and kids feel with not having their

dad at home to tuck them in to bed and kiss them goodnight. How will the family survive without enough family time because their mom is gone and working for any food they can get. How will it effect the kids when their father and role model is convicted of such a heinous crime. Can you see how these events can easily destroy a once happy family. It is your responsibility and duty to consider all of these factors as this trial unfolds and as you are needed to make a life changing decision.
