Prepared By:Group 5 Sec B PGPM -09

Management is the art of getting work done through people , needless to say a person has a good leader in order to make his misson happen smoothly in the workplace, leaders will have to ensure that he/she can bring resources , co-workers on a common platform from where he/shewill be abke to make them work in achieving a goal. Leadership is a position of status and stature. With the designation comes a lot of responsibility but managers often fail to understand that, due to their short sighted vision. Three common mistakes committed by a manager are: 1) They dont set SMART goals 2) They dont think about the organization as a whole 3) They waste time in preparing,ie Prepar, prepare, prepare. 4) Delegating responsibilities 1) Setting of SMART goals

Convey the benefits of setting smart goals Show the managers through videos, how setting a non-specific, non-attainable goal can lead to poor performance and frustration of the employee. If the managers can relate themselves to the videos they will get a clearer picture and will not commit the same mistake again.

Tell them to write down the goals that were set for them when they were in junior positions and how they felt about the goals, this will help them in understanding the discomfort faced by their juniors when smart goals are not set. Lastly, reiterate the fact that not setting of smart goals might result in the work being done but the quality of work would not be as per expectations To tackle with the problem of aligning ones goals with the organizations goals One might not be aligned with the organizations goals if he is not clear of the goals of the organization. The training program should try and explain what the organization is trying to achieve i.e., the macro perspective-the vision, mission, values etc. Every manager should be asked about his role in the organization and the trainer should try and relate it to the organizations goal. The manager should be shown a clear link between his goals and the organizations goal and how achievement of one leads to achievement of the other. 3) To tackle with the problems of wastage in time and preparing:

2)

A manager should be trained to distinguish between programmed, operational and strategic tasks. This will enable him to understand how much time is to be given to what. He should be educated about the benefit of delegating power along with work. If all the empowerment lies in the hands of the manager, decision making will become a very time consuming affair. If the manager faces with a bottleneck he should look for innovative alternatives to perform the task instead of spending time in overcoming the bottleneck. The manager should be trained to make standardize processes so that if he faces a similar situation in the future he can refer to the process and action it fast. The manager should be told to set specific turnaround time and should adhere to it 4) Delegatin of responsibility

Delegating responsibilities is one important task wich a manager/leader needs to do successfully. Lack of trust on co-workers may induce the lack of efficiency in delegating responsibilities. Delegating the right task to the right person is one challenge in which often a leader falters.

SOLUTION

According to us its the situation actually which makes a person a leader. The only way which we can think of providing hands on project where we will need to accumulate resources, analyze a given situation, build the team, set persons specific target, delegation of authority, inspiring and mentoring them .Leadership cannot be taught through theories and laws but they are inbuilt. A practical workshop can be the best way to bring out the qualities of a good leader.
