Topic: ANTI CORROSION BEHAVIOR OF TYPES OF HOT-DIP ZINC ALLOY COATED STEEL SHEET IN CORROSIVE CONDITIONS
Corrosion behavior of hot-dip Zn-alloy coated steel sheets [hot-dip Zn-5%Al alloy coated steel sheet (GF), hot-dip Zn-6%Al-3%Mg coated steel sheet (ZAM) and hot-dip Zn-55%Al alloy coated steel sheet (GL)] have been investigated and compared with a hot-dip Zn coated steel sheet (GI) in salt spray test. Under Salt spray test conditions, each coated steel sheet exhibited more advanced corrosion in cut end portions than in flat portions. Upon comparing the cut end portions of various types of sheets, the ZAM specimen exhibited better corrosion resistance than that of the GI and GF specimens. As the test time elapsed, the entire cut end portions of the ZAM specimens were considered to be covered by fine and dense zinc corrosion products containing Mg and/or Al, resulting in better corrosion resistance. In the GL specimen, it was recognized a considerable reduction of corrosion resistance in the cut end portions as compared to the flat portions. Fe rust (red rust) was formed on the cut end portions due to corrosion of the steel substrate, which is likely to have facilitated corrosion of the coating layer.

Corrosion behavior of ZAM has been investigated and compare with post hot- dip galvanized products (HDZ 55 : JIS H 6841) in salt spray test. The ZAM specimens exhibited better corrosion resistance with only 1/6 coating weight of post hot dip galvanized products. (From results of various accelerated corrosion tests) As anti-rust technology that can replace post hot dip galvanized products, the certification for the architecture execution technology and the technology examination has been obtained at the Building Center of Japan (BCJ) and the construction technology examination has been obtained at the Civil Engineering Research Center. (Applies to : ZAM coating weight symbol 120)

Anti-chemical performance of ZAM has been investigated and compare with GI and GL in ammonia water. The ZAM specimen exhibited better ammonia resistance (Corrosion loss) than that of the GI specimen or the GL specimen. (Corrosion loss : After immersion for 24 hours in 5% ammonia water at 22)
