3. Functional Description of the System

BOP Transporter The BOP transporter a movablepieceof equipment is runningon two railsmountedat the lowerdeck alongthe moonpool. functionis to movethe BOP stack between lts the stack storagepositionat the starboard end of the moonpool and the main well center. The transporter the abilityto lowerthe stackapproximately ft, which is relevant has 29 when the stack is locatedundemeath the drill floor. The transporter providedwith is platforms below the stack support posts for access to the BOP stack connectorfor maintenanceand visual inspection. The platform also provides a skidding/sliding mechanism aligna test stumpwith the BOP stackwellhead to connector. The outerframe of the BOP transporter equipped is with four hang-off arms that fit into hang-offreceptacles locatedon the stack. These hang-offarms can supportthe weight of the BOP and can thus be used to unloadthe liftingfork. When not in use,the arms are retractedby hydrauliccylindersinto the box-construction the outer frame. The of LMRP is also equipped with hang-off arm receptacles. Thesereceptacles designed are to receiveONLY the LMRPweight(264,000lbs) and not the BOP stack (532,850 lbs). In addition, the LMRP receptacles too high when the LMRP is assembled the are to BOP stackand cannotbe engagedby the hang-off arms, preventing hang-off the full of assembly BOP+LMRP ontothe LMRPreceptacles.

Riser Monitoring System - 2H The drillingrisersused on the PDQ are designed the full 25- year field life. Due to for the severity of potential operating conditions, high rales of fatigue damage amumulation may be incurred fro-p vortex induced vibrations (VlV), and vessel motions.ln order to track the fatiguedamageof the drillingriser, and hence ensure integrityis maintained, real time monitoring the riser responseis performed. of 2H Offshorelnc has designedthe ThunderHorse PDQ drillingriser (DR) monitoring system, which includes strainmonitoring sensors, motionsensors, topsidesequipment and software. total,3 Insensys ln fiber optic(FO) mats, 1 2H subseamarshalling bottle and 2 2H motion sensors are required. Two mats will be located on the bottom riser joint, and one mat will be locatedon the secondriserjoint. The marshalling electronics collate all sensor data from the monitoringstationsand return it to the surfacevia the RCB and umbilical.
