Volume-Based Cloning
Convertersupportsvolumebasedcloningforhotandcoldcloningandforimportationofexistingvirtual machines. Involumebasedcloning,allvolumesinthedestinationvirtualmachinearebasicvolumes,regardlessofthe typeinthecorrespondingsourcevolume.Filelevelorblocklevelvolumebasedcloningisperformed, dependingonyoursizeselections: VolumebasedfilelevelcloningPerformedwhenanysizesmallerthantheoriginalisselected. VolumebasedblocklevelcloningPerformedwhenthevolumesizeismaintainedorextended. Dependingonthecloningmode,sometypesofsourcevolumesmightnotbesupportedasfollows: Coldcloning(ConverterBootCD)supportsalltypesofdynamicvolumes,butdoesntsupport Windows NT 4faulttolerantvolumes.WindowsNT4withmirroredvolumesissupported. VirtualmachineimportingsupportsbasicvolumesandalltypesofdynamicvolumesexceptRAID.It doesntsupportWindows NT 4faulttolerantvolumes.WindowsNT4withmirroredvolumesis supported.Onlymasterbootrecord(MBR)disksaresupported.GUIDpartitiontable(GPT)disksarenot supported. Disk-Based Cloning
Convertersupportsdiskbasedcloningforcoldcloningandforimportationofexistingvirtualmachines. Diskbasedcloningtransfersallsectorsfromalldisks,preservingallvolumemetadata.Thedestinationvirtual machinereceivesthesamevolumes,ofthesametypeasthoseofthesourcevirtualmachine.Diskbased cloningsupportsalltypesofbasicanddynamicdisks.

Information Not Preserved When Using Converter for Managed Product Destinations
Whenrestoringimagesformanagedproductdestinations(ESXServers,forexample),Converterdoesnot preservecertainhardwarebackinginformationfromtheoriginalimage,butrathersubstitutesdefaultsettings. Thesearetheaffectedareas: CDROMDefaultstodevicetype:hostdevice. FloppyDefaultstodevicetype:hostdevice.
