Safety notes

The DECT cordless telephone is used for transmitting voice via the digital telephone network (Euro ISDN). No other type of use is permitted: it will be regarded as contrary to the telephones intended use. The user guide and its safety notes are an integral part of the equipment and must be handed over to the new owner when reselling the equipment. Warning! Use only approved rechargeable batteries and select the correct battery type: Nickel-metal-hydride (NiMH AAA) Sanyo: HR-4U Toshiba: TH-680AAAR HHR65 AAA Z1B Nickel cadmium (NiCd AAA) Panasonic: P-25 AAAR Sanyo: N-4U Using other types of rechargeable batteries or ordinary (i.e. non-rechargeable) batteries can be dangerous and also lead to malfunctions of and/or damage to the set. The producer accepts no liability in such cases. Make sure the batteries are fitted correctly as shown in the battery compartment of the handset. Do not dip the batteries in water; do not throw them into the fire. Batteries can become warm when being charged; this is a normal and harmless process. To avoid damage to the batteries, do not use charging stations from other manufacturers. For the base station and the charging bay use only the power supply unit SNG 5 af as supplied. Before using the telephone, hearingaid users should note that radio signals interfere with hearing aids and
9

may cause an unpleasant humming noise if sufficiently loud. Do not use your DECT cordless telephone in potentially explosive environments (e.g. workshops where paints or lacquers are being used, petrol stations etc.) Do not set up your base station in bathrooms or shower rooms. The function of some medical apparatus may be affected by the telephones radio signals. If there is a power outage in the electricity grid or if the rechargeable batteries are in a discharged state, your DECT cordless telephone will not work. The babyphone function is designed to provide support but it does not obviate the need for personal monitoring. If there is a power outage in the electricity grid or if the rechargeable batteries are in a discharged state, the babyphone feature will not work. Do not charge the handset unless the battery compartment contains batteries and the battery compartment cover is in place. Do not touch the electrical contacts.

Emergency number
When certain functions such as call barring, direct call, babyphone etc. are active, these functions may first have to be deactivated before you can make a emergency call. Further information on this is provided in this documentation.

Euro-ISDN
Your Eurit 535/565 is intended for connection to the Euro-ISDN. The Euro-ISDN is a digital network which is uniform all over Europe. It provides a wide range of functions which are either included as part of your connection or are available as supplementary services. There are various types of Euro-ISDN connections which differ by the extent of available functions. Your Eurit 535/565 supports all the functions provided by the Euro-ISDN. However, it is possible that you wont be able to use some of these functions because they do not form part of your connection package. Please refer to the documentation from your provider for information on the features of your connection package.

User concept
Your network operator allocates up to 5 telephone numbers to you (technical term: multiple subscriber numbers MSNs). The allocated multiple subscriber numbers MSNs have to be saved as MSN A, MSN B etc. via one of the logged-on handsets. The set automatically allocates MSN A to user A, MSN B to user B etc. It then becomes necessary to specify a user name (e.g. home, business, Anna, ) for users A, B, C, D, E. After this, individual settings can be specified and used for each MSN (user). These become valid as soon as the respective user is dialled (change user). Up to 6 handsets can be allocated to each programmed MSN (user). Note: At least one MSN must be programmed and one user name must be specified to take advantage of all the features of your telephone.Im Lieferzustand ist Benutzer A bereits programmiert. In the default setting, user A has been programmed.

Network operator
You can make your telephone calls via various providers, irrespective of the provider or network operator who provides your connection. The features available to you from those provided by your Eurit 535/565 depend on your provider or network operator.

User benefits
For each user (MSN) the following settings/ functions can be individually programmed: User name Ringer Identification restriction Call-waiting on/off Call forwarding on/off Acquire/display charge data Program call deflection number Program mailbox access number Receiving messages (SMS) Switch answering machine on/off (Eurit 565 only) Set various functions of the answering machine (Eurit 565 only)

User table
Please enter the settings which you have selected for your base station and your handset in the tables provided (pages 82, 83).

Application example
At home you would like to separate private calls from business calls with separate cost data acquisition and to be able to acoustically differentiate between incoming calls. Your are using handset 1 predominantly in your home office and handset 2 predominantly in your living areas.

Handset HS: 2 User A: private melody 1

203245631en_ba_b0

An incoming call on 032 624 2411 is signalled on HS1 + HS2 with melody 1 (private). Handset 1 provides cost data acquisition of the "private" user and a separate one of the "business" user. An incoming call on 032 624 2412 is signalled only on HS1 with melody 3 (business).

Using several base stations

In addition to your own base station, you can operate your handset on up to three further base stations, thereby increasing your range.

Selecting a base station

Outgoing calls can be made from any of the base stations. If the radio cells overlap, the connection is established with the base station shown on the handset. You can always only be contacted via the base station shown in the display.

Application example
You have a telephone at home and use an identical handset at your workplace. You can now also use the handset from the cordless telephone at work on the base station at home and vice versa. Of course, incoming and outgoing calls are possible only within the range of the particular base station. Specifying the configuration The handsets must be logged onto the base station at home and onto the base station at work. Specify one letter (A, B, C or D) in each case for the base station at home and one for the base station at work. Next allocate one internal subscriber number (1 to 6) to each of your handsets. Note: The radio cells can overlap either partly or completely. Incoming calls will only be forwarded to your handset if the corresponding base station is selected. If the handset is not in radio contact with the base station, the corresponding letter will flash in the display.

Handset settings Select station Automatic Base station A

Automatic In the default setting the handset always automatically dials up via the base station first received. Setting the answering machine

Introduction
This section applies only if you have an Eurit 565 (with answering machine). Thanks to the standard outgoing message (plug & play) your answering machine is immediately operational. All you need to do is to switch it on. The answering machine can be operated from the base station, the handset or by remote access via the network. If the answering machine is operated from the handset or the base station, the display indicates the number of the incoming message stored, the time and date it was left, and the telephone number of the caller (CLIP). Note: To take full advantage of the answering machine, you should specify at least one MSN (user). See section "Comfort through ISDN User concept". The answering machine can only record messages for one user (e.g. MSN A). If during this time a call to another user comes in (e.g. MSN B), the respective allocated handset rings. If the answering machine becomes available before the second call is completed, the answering machine can accept the 2nd call.

Characteristics
Total recording time up to 22 minutes Automatic recording quality, i.e. the recording quality drops as the length of the recording time increases Digital recording No maintenance required Note: Your answering machine cannot work if there is a power failure; however, the messages previously left and the outgoing messages remain saved.
