Nabasa ko rin sa isang article sa internet habang akoy nag-a-upload ng picture sa aking facebook account na wala ni isa mang nakapasok na university ng Pilipinas sa top 300 schools sa buong mundo. Inggit lang kasi sila sa atin; masyado silang choosy. Hindi nila kayang magwelga, magplanking at magbabad sa ilalim ng init ng araw para lang ipakita ang pagsalungat sa pagtapyas ng administrasyong Aquino sa budget para sa ating mga estudyante. Dapat lang tinanggal tayo para di nila tayo mapansin. Mali ang criteria nila! Mali ang tingin nila sa atin. Si Gloria? Hoy, malaki na talaga ang ipinayat niya. Naaawa ako sa kanya kasi sobra-sobra nang panunuya ang natanggap niya pero ipaubaya na lang natin siya sa mga kamay ni P-noy. Ano pa nga ba ang magagawa natin? Tutal may ginawa naman siyang kasalanan, e diba ayaw din niya ng korupsyon at sabi niya paparusahan niya ang mga gumagawa nito? E sana dito sa atin may mga napreso na pero magagaling tayo. Sikat kasi tayo at kinatatakutan ng mga tao sa siyudad dahil tayo ay mga waray-warayisang pangkat ng mga taong matatapang at walang sinasanto. Ayaw mo nun, sikat tayo sa tv at pahayagan? Pero kung uusisain naman natin ang mga isyung iyan, dagdag lamang ang mga iyan sa mga iniisip natin. Mas mahalaga naman ang pag-aaral ano! Ang sabi pa nga ni Mother Earth nan AUGUST-DECEMBER 2011

Nanalo nga raw siya at tinalo ang dating may hawak ng korona na minsay napadaan sa kampus na ito na naka-tsinelas at napuna sa kanyang outlandish na outfit. Pero tsismis lang yun, di ba? Naaalala ko pa nga ang first semester na may nagbalak na ilipat ang eleksyon sa Hulyo sa Marso. Ang dami ngang estudyanteng lumahok. Siyempre sinara nila yung gate para walang makalabas (jejeje). Hindi mo naman talaga kayang piliting lumahok ang buong eskwelahan sa ganung mga activities kung wala kang gagawing authoritative move. John Carl S. Ronato he College of Education will be the first one to be accredited said Prof. Jocelyn P. Igdon, Chair, College of Education in an interview last December 5, 2011. The college is still applying to undergo accreditation with the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP) that will pass through a series of stages. Nasa preliminary pa lang tayo. We are still on the process of gathering the documents needed for preliminary accreditation and hopefully we can have [it] on February or March said Prof. Igdon. AACCUP has seven stages of the accreditation process: Application, Institutional Selfsurvey, Preliminary Survey Visit, 1st (Formal) Survey Visit, 2nd Survey Visit, 3rd Survey Visit and 4th Survey Visit, and not until passing 1st (Formal) Survey Visit that the program (or college) will be awarded a Level I Accredited Status. Six months after the preliminary evaluation, we will be advised to submit for Level I accreditation then after six months [if we are not yet] ready for Level I accreditation, we will be reminded that we will submit [to it] for another six months [And] after one year [if the documents were not worked through] maa-abolish na yung ating preliminary evaluation kaya ma-go back na naman tayo she said further. During the accreditation, the accreditors will roam around, the accreditor will interview the students during the interview, they might ask the students to recite the vision [and] mission. Accreditation will benefit students who will graduate that after they have passed the board exams, they will gain bigger chances to be employed. [If we were accredited, applicants who graduated from this school] will be given points compared to those applicants coming from non-accredited schools, said Prof. Igdon. Professors are required According to Prof. Igdon, the professors are required to submit their faculty portfolio containing their present transcript of records, their present educational attainment, seminars attended, their personal data sheet, list of students who had been with them during competition and awards received by these students. She said that the teachers will be earning Php 1,000 in every level of accreditation. Accreditation Room This time we are planning to have our accreditation room [i.e. room 117] kaya yung room from room 117 up to room 121, that [will] be under renovation and the budget is already approved by Dr. Poso which [was] adjusted to one million [pesos] room 117 would be used as our accreditation room because that is what the accreditors are looking [for]. Prof. Igdon also said that COED will not only undergo accreditation by the AACCUP but all departments will. AACCUP AACCUP will be using ten criteria (areas) in the assessment of programs: (1) Mission, goals and objectives; (2) faculty; (3) Curriculum and Instruction; (4) Students; (5) Research; (6) Extension and Community Involvement; (7) Library; (8) Physical Fitness; (9) Laboratories; and (10) Administration. It is composed of four levels with Level IV, if attained, may entitle the school to an institutional accreditation status. Currently, AACUP, a nonprofit, non-stock corporation organized in 1987, has 108 members: 105 state universities and colleges (SUCs), including the UEP Main Campus, and 3 Local Colleges; it aims to develop a mechanism of, and conduct the evaluation of programs and institutions.

RP universities decline in worlds top 300

Rommel L. Poblete No Philippine school made it to the top 300 World University ranking in the latest survey for 2011-2012 by the Londonbased Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). Four Philippine universities that are included in their ranking even declined in the ranking this year. The University of the Philippines in its 314 rank last year dropped into 332 spot this year, while the Ateneo de Manila University was ranked 360 from its 307 ranking last year and the De La Salle University from its 451-500 bracket last year now is in 551-600 bracket, and University of Sto. Tomas placed 600+ bracket in its 551600 last year. Many claim that the low performance of the Philippine schools in the QS World University Ranking is a manifestation that the quality of education in the country is getting worse; also, students are blaming the Aquino administration

Margie C. Lucban Ipapatupad na ng Kagawaran ng Edukasyon (DepEd) ang K+12 primary education program sa akademikong taon 2012-2013. Papalitan ang unang taon ng high school ng grade 7, ang ikatlo at ikaapat na taon ay ng grade 9 at 10 na tatawaging junior high at ang mga karagdagang pang mga grade 11 at 12 na senior high. Ang mga estudyante sa senior high ay magsisimulang mamili ng kanilang gustong maging konsentrasyon na mga subject (specialization) kung pangakademiko, teknikal-bokasyonal o sports at sining. Ang Pilipinas ay isa sa dalawang bansa sa mundo (ang isa ay ang Myanmar) na nagpapatupad pa rin ng sampung taong basic education system. Sinabi ng DepEd na ang programang ito ay mapabubuti ang kalidad ng edukasyon ng bansa ngunit para naman sa Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT), ang badyet sa edukasyon ay dapat munang itatag bago ang pagpapatupad ng K+12 dahil maaaring magdulot pa ito ng mas malaking problema. Dagdag pa rito, aabot ng 66,800 silid-aralan ang kulang mula kindergarten hanggang high school at 100,000 guro pa ang kinakailangan. Ang K+12 program ng DepEd ay isang 12-taong na sinasaklawan ng kindergarten, anim na taon ng elementarya edukasyon, apat na taon ng junior high school (Grade 7 hanggang 10), at dalawang taon ng senior high school.

The eight passers were: Acibar, Jojo S.; Adora, Rommel B.; Curia, Juvy G.; Garcera, Cliff S.; Giray, Jeffrey C.; Irinco, Jonathan B.; Tan, Benmar P.; Zamora, Joel A. This years board examination for criminologists, the UEPL College of Criminology got a total of 28.57% passing rate. Out of seventeen first timer examinees, only six passed and out eleven repeaters only two passed.

UEPL celebrates 51st Founding Anniversary

In the morning of first day, the teachers had their aerobic exercise at the UEPL Quadrangle, led by Inst. Alegria Cui, the P.E. teacher. A mass was then held at the P.E. Center followed by the parade of all students, University Student Council (USC) officers and school staff and boasting the new candidates for Miss UEPL 2011. In the afternoon, a quiz bee was conducted by Ricabeth Aducon, chairperson, assisted by Inst. Rosario Acebron, Inst. Marilyn Galit, Inst. Cherry Balanquit, Inst. Jenelyn Delgado, Inst. Martin Nobis, and Inst. Conchita dela Rosa. The affair was highlighted by the traditional Ms. UEPL Pageant that kept the university alive for the celebration. Katherine Heramia from the High School department was crowned as Ms. UEPL 2011 while the runners-up are as follows: (1st) Mariel Balanquit form College of Engineering; (2nd) Helen Tepace from College of Education; (3rd) Johoana Myr Lagrimas from High School Department; and (4th) Ronabel Suedad from College of Industrial Technology. On the last day affair, it was again started with aerobics of the students led by the teachers in every department. The celebration resumed and ended in the evening by the Shindig Disco exclusively for the students. The two-day activity gloriously opened the beginning of the second semester after a month-long semester break There were lesser students who participated and not many activities enlightened the event because some students were still enrolling and the classes have had started the week after the celebration.

Students join acting workshop

Through meticulous training in the essentials of acting by Prof. Manrico A. Embile, Jr. from UEPMain, 35 students from different college and high school departments developed their acting skills in a three-day acting workshop spearheaded by the University Performing Arts GuildTheater (UPAG-Theater), at the UEPL Conference Hall last Oct. 13-15. Students were trained on vocal projection, stage geography, mental awareness, internalization and sensitivity Students participated in different activities that brought out their creativity while enjoying at the same time. Among them was the Mind and Body Exercise aimed at developing mental awareness. Here, two participants (or the Minds) stand behind the other two who are facing each other (or the Bodies) where the Minds instruct the Bodies to act in what appears as a typical conversation. Their creativity was put to the test when Mr. Embile asked them to think of anything to portray using only their bodies. Some students rolled on the floor, twisted, and bended to make everyone guess what they were portraying. Another was the touch and explode where all the participants run away from a person and when s/he is touched, s/he will jump and shout as if he had exploded. One activity where the students really enjoyed was when the delegates were asked to lay on the floor to form a line with their sides touching each other so that the participant from one point may roll over the other participants to get to the other side. This was a test aimed to remove their inhibitions and sensitivity.

The students experienced acting when they were asked to group themselves and create skits. They also showed their creativity and grace in the Kumot Exercise where they used cloths to portraythrough dancing with music accompaniment their own personal life cycles. On the last day, the students were grouped into two to write an original doxology and perform it as their final performance. The three-day event ended with a recital and awarding of certificates to the participants and the trainer.

Espia Matagumpay na naidaos ang makasaysayang araw ng mga guro na nilahukan ng mga guro ng ibat ibang paaralan sa buong Laoang kabilang ang University of eastern Philippines Laoang noong Oktobre 5. Bilang paggunita sa nasabing selebrasyon na may temang My Teacher, My Hero, isang misa na sinundan ng pagpapatunog ng mga kampanilya (ringing of bells) at parada ang ginanap bilang pagpupugay sa natatanging mga guro ng Laoang. Isang programa kinagabihan ang pinaunlakan kung saan si Dr. Gorgonio Diaz, Schools Division Supervisor, ang napiling panauhing pandangal. Samantalang sa Maynila, sinimulan rin ang pagdiriwang sa pagpapatunog ng kampanilya na kung saan lahat ng mga guro ay lalabas mula sa kani-kanilang silid-aralan upang lumahok sa programa ng paaralan. Bahagi rin ng programa ang pagbibigay ng mga estudyante ng mga sulat o regalo sa kanilang mga guro bilang pasasalamat. Sa ibang mga bansa naman, ang pagdiriwang sa natatanging araw ng mga guro ay sinisimulan sa pamamagitan ng pag-oorganisa ng mga programang nagbibigay-pansin sa kahalagahan ng mga guro at edukasyon. Mga Seminar at training sessions ang idinaos upang matulungan ang mga guro na maging mas epektibo at makabago.

But this is not a temporary solution to hunger; this may otherwise even become a threat. This is an estimate of how many we are in this small stricken archipelago which places us on 12 on the population rank chart (CIA [Central Intelligence Agency] World Factbook, July 12, 2011). From that 101 million, a hundred may be your neighbors, a thousand or more living in your barangay and over fiftysix thousand people in this municipality including the rich and the poor, the employed and the self-employed, the men and their women and their children from those who study in schools with allowances to those who pitifully nudge you so they may triumphantly get a mouthful of your half-finished sandwich. They, including you, are this huge population and this is one whopping truth we just cant deny. Could population be a burden or a blessing? Beatified Spanish martyr once served in Laoang

Jabel Phillip L. Irinco October 27, 2007498 Spanish martyrs have undergone the first step towards canonizationthe beatificationby the Pope Benedict XVI. But did you know that one of them has become a part of the history of the Laoang Parish? Born in Pastrana, Guadalahjara (Spain) on the first of October, 1877, ngel Hernndez-Ranera de Diego was the second son of Felix and Manuela, who were farmers and devout practicing Catholics. Growing in the region of his parents, ngel, who was inspired by 15 Franciscans who came from his town, entered the Novitiate in 1892, and made his first profession five years later. In the 9th of June 1900, he received the solemn religious profession and was ordained to priesthood. In January 1906, he joined the third mission to the Philippines, which was composed of 14 young and old friars. His first assignment, after spending some time in Manila, was in Calbiga, Samar. As an assistant pastor, he was assigned in Catarman in 1907 and in 1910 he left for Allen, where he spent ten years as a pastor. During his stay, he founded a parochial school, rebuilt the church and acquired musical instruments for the parish. From 1919-1924, he became an acting pastor in Capul, Lavezares and in Catubig, where he established the Secular Franciscan Order, the Pious Union of St. Anthony and the Confraternity of the Sacred Heart. After the typhoon in 1921, which destroyed Catubig Church and many other homes there, he had worked hard to rebuild them. The start of his last mission in the Philippines was in 1924 here in Laoang. During this mission, he was able to erect a monumental cross in the plaza, rebuilt the belfry and acquired new bells for it and organized the religious associations, the choir and the band for the parish. In 1929, he left the town and returned to Spain for new assignments. He was sent to Consuegra in 1935 to do pastoral work. The testimonies about him at this time were unanimous about his good qualities, holiness and desire for martyrdom. On August 16, 1936, during the Spanish civil war, he faced the firing squad together with his community. They were among thousands of martyrs who were executed by the Republicans during the war because of their faith. Their remains are in San Juan de los Reyes, Toledo.

The Paquiao-Marquez Aftermath

Yes, its the third fight between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez which was held at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, 13th of November. The fight has ended, but its results have brought lots criticisms and controversies which led to debates and discussions everywhere. The bell rang at the end of the twelfth round. The fight was over. No gesture verifying victory was shown by the filipino champ. His blank face left the public wondering whether he was expecting a defeat or he was discontentedeither on the fight or on the opponents strategy. Pacquiao had kept the facial expression. But as soon as the announcer says and still WBO welterweight champion, his whole group jumped and rejoiced with the crowds cheer. He somewhat looked relieved but the reaction was not like that of his colleaguesmore lively, that they were shouting and jumping with happiness. As his left arm was raised by the referee, he still looked blank. Could it be that he wasnt expecting his victory that he showed a blanked expression on his face, or was he just tired? If he himself wasnt convinced with his performance on the ring, then he must have lost the fight. But if he was supposed to be the loser, then why did the judges choose him as the winner? Speculations from ESPN sports analysts tell that there may have been a conspiracy that included the PacquiaoMarquez fight. They think that Pacquiao must never lose his match with Marquez because the most awaited event in the history of boxingthe Pacquiao-Mayweather fightwill be jeopardized. It somewhat makes sense. If Pacquiao lost the fight with Marquez, then his record as champion will be soiled and thus, he cannot meet the undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the ring bearing the fact that he lost his most recent fight with the one who was defeated by the American boxer in 2009. So the judges might have chosen him as the winner. The recent fight with Marquez, according also to the sports analysts, might have been used by the Filipino champ to lure the American boxer out of hiding. It could mean that his not-so-good-butnot-so-poor performance during the match was just for show. If Mayweather happens to watch the fight (or even his fans), he may be convinced that Pacquiao is just vulnerable and therefore easy to be knocked down. So why wont he fight someone who is easily defeated? His immediate action might be to take the opportunity of making the dream fight come true, thinking that he has a lot of chances to win. If the plan was real, then the Filipino champ must be prepared. But whatever speculation there may be, Pacquiao was still the champion. But some people (actually those who are Filipinos and are Pacquiao fans) are still not convinced with the results. They werent satisfied with the performance of the champ, and thus, they wouldnt buy the judges decision. The problem with them is that they expected too much. Perhaps they have already predicted the scenario where Pacman throws many power punches at Marquez that knocks the Mexican fighter down. Now that the output of the match was not the thing they expected, they wouldnt believe it because they were blinded by their emotions. In judging a fight, emotions must never be considered. It will just bring a blur to ones eye that will make him unable to see the real happenings. If people will focus more on reason, then they will be convinced that the Filipino champ was really the winner. Instead of just doing nothing but complaining, why dont we try to see the reality of events? Why dont we look at the results of the fight, and weigh things? If we look at the Final PunchStat report of CompuBox, we would realize that Pacquiao has thrown more punches than Marquez, with an average of 49 punches per round (and Marquez, 36). Although the Mexican opponent was able to throw cleaner punches than the Filipino champ (as shown by the percentage of the total punches landed), Pacman still took the lead since he had landed more power-punches and jabs than Marquez. So there is no reason for Marquez to complain of robbery because he wasnt really able to surpass Pacquiaos performance. And now as Filipinos, perhaps due to our expectations of a knock-out win by Pacquiao, we were not convinced of his victory. Instead, we were thinking that the real winner was the foreign oppressor. But the results have shown that there is nothing for us to be skeptical. So why should we deny the pride of our own mother land? Win or lose, we, his kababayans, must be very proud of him; because for us, Pacquiao is the real winner.

Their relationship went good; they were both happy and they trusted each other. Mononucleosis is a disease most commonly caused by the Epstein-Bar Virus (EBV) and Cytomegalovirus (CMV). The EBV is a member of the Herpes family of the DNA viruses responsible for cold sores, shingles, and chicken pox. It can also be acquired through direct contact with an infected persons saliva. This includes coughing, sneezing, sharing toothbrush, lip gloss and most especially, kissing. When a person accidentally acquires microbes such as saliva while kissing, the swallowing action of the tongue wipes the microbes against the back of the throat, allowing the virus to enter the body. It sticks to the inner surface of the cheeks and mouth, the tongue, and the teeth. CMV is also associated with the herpes virus and most commonly transmitted through kissing and sexual intercourse. It can also be transmitted by an infected mother to her unborn child. This virus is a silent type; the signs and symptoms cannot be felt by the person infected and can cause life threatening illnesses for the weak immune system. It can cause pneumonia; inflammations of the retina, esophagus, liver, and large intestine; and even brain illness. Other main symptoms of mononucleosis which had felt by Megan are sore throat and tonsillitis, swollen lymph glands in the neck, jaundice, fever, enlarged spleen, nausea, stomach pain, headaches, muscle soreness/aching, chest pain, cough, skin rashes, loss of appetite and energy. There is no specific treatment for mononucleosis. However, patients are advised to strengthen their immune system to fight the virus. They are also advised to have a regular check-up for specific treatment for the other symptoms.

Tangkilikin natin ang produktong Filipino sapagkat dito nakasasalalay ang kaunlaran ng Pilipinas. Gamitin natin ang wika hindi lamang tuwing Buwan ng Agosto kundi maging sa habang panahon; sa pakikipag-usap, pakikipagkalakalan at ugnayan dahil lubos itong mahalaga sa pagiging intelektuwalisado ng isang wika. Hindi masamang maging bukas sa pagtanggap ng ibang wika. Kinakailangan lamang magtalaga ng limitasyon sa paggamit nito. Isa sa pinakamainint na isyu sa nagdaang taon ang kaso ni GMA lalo pat nasa ilalim ito ng kapangyarihan ng Administrasyong Aquino. Matatandaang mula ng mahalal si Pang. Benigno Aguino III bilang pangulo noong Hunyo 2010, naging sentro ng prayoridad ng bagong administrasyon ang pag-i-imbestiga sa nagdaang pamamahala ni Arroyo kabilang sa mga hinihinalang katiwalian na naganap sa loob ng siyam na taong panunungkulan ni GMA ay ang katiwalian, pagnanakaw ng salaping pampubliko at pandaraya sa eleksyon. Ang pagiging mainit ni GMA sa mata ng gobyerno ay umabot na sa kasukdulan. Noong ika-18 ng N o b y e m b r e ngayong taon ay inaresto si Arroyo habang nakaratay sa St. Lukes Medical Center sa Taguig City. Bago naganap ang nasabing insidente ay nagpulong ang Commiccion on Elections o COMELEC kung saan ay umapila sila ng Electoral Sabotage laban kay GMA, Maguindanao Gov. Bagamat nagpasa ang kampo ni Arroyo ng motion for reconsideration para sa pagpapagaan ng temporary restraining order, ibinasura naman ito ng Korte Suprema. Ayon kay Supreme Court Spokesperson Midas Marquez, maaaring payagan si GMA na umalis ng bansa kung hahayaan lamang siyang malagay sa watch list. Ibinasura rin ng korte ang petition na ipinasa ng abogado ni Arroyo na si Estelito Mendoza sa hiling nitong mas mapaaga ang oral arguments sa araw na itinalaga ng korte noong Nobyembere 28. Sa bisa ng warrant of Arrest na inilabas ng Pasay RTC, nagawa nilang arestuhin sina Arroyo, Bedol at Ampatuan, Sr. Ayon kay Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, ang naging kilos ng korte sa kaso ni GMA ay isang magandang simula ng makatotohanang katarungan. This institution can do us nothing but make us into zombies than into robots we aspire to be if we do not allow this institution to help us to reach that transformation something weve been yearning for far beyond whats in the schools mission and vision which we dont have the time to even memorize. The institution is in its transition to a more competent and modernized school and we wont be able to experience that transition if we continue to deceive ourselves. Our learning environment is a place of righteousness, goodness and truth and if otherwise we fail to practice this, this school will not become a school but a confused sluma learning black holewhere all wickedness dwell. Indeed, we are in the wicked generation but lets save this school, our only kingdom, from the wiles of the carnal miseducation of this world. Like how we stood together when we transitioned from a trade school to a university, we should stand firm with testimony. No budget cuts nor poor facilities nor even the overly moneyg r a b b i n g attention this generation requires of us can separate us from our desire to be educated. Quality education should be the primary goal of any institution not the faade of a glorifying mask. To the want-to-be graduates (thus, everyone taking bachelor degrees) Education is a treasure that will last for a lifetime and as we die, all that wisdom which you have invested in for many years will suddenly flash before your eyes and vanish so you will not be able to remember anymore the sweetness of being educated. Everything happens as it happens like a wheel that turns heading for its final precipice. To the practice-teaching and the OJT students, you will be graduating in March and it's not going to take longer until you ever get to toss that hat and cry for joy. If you did your task well, yes, you will definitely graduate. But if you did not, let's meet again next semester; try to mend your heart from its past pains and think again as if it's your first time to be a graduating student.

We who are obligated to comply with daunting tasks, there is no commendation if there's nothing to be applauded. As we graduate soon, we will see big hand-made Styrofoam cut-outs of 'Commencement Exercises' on the stage wall and glittered so it may look exquisite; it would not become of much importance whether we receive cum laudes or not. Our titles will be void if we don't have guts. We don't eat with medals, shop with them nor live with them but those who have the will to endure and fail to learn, they are the ones who succeed. To the great heroes (thus, the real educators who have real passion for teaching) Dedication must not only concern the students but also the educators. Teachers are shepherds of flocks of sheep; you do not meet with your students once to get their class cards and make them pass 100page midterm and final requirements so that at the end of the semester you may give them flat 1.0s for their outstanding works which barely relates with the course description. Educators are responsible "for" their students not just "to" the students so they risk their lives for mere men and women and only the passionate will do. We do know it is not an easy task to be teachers especially all people have different personalities and sexual preferences. Let's both be educated with a sense of professionalism even in and out of campus whether we belong in the same learning community or not. For the sake of professionalism, let us not permit our conscience to be tainted with immorality. We commend the instructors and professors who give low grades to their students who enter the class for the attendance just to pass no matter how smart they are; they are real givers-of-grades who base grades through achievement not through effort expended. Education must be worked for as a farmer would do to his/her tilled land. No one can sow seeds and leave and come back again for the harvest. None will be harvested if that would be the case. This is the same with education: we sow seeds, we water, we sustain, we wait until we harvest. It requires a mass of effort.

It's mission will only ridicule our school's name if it is not attained. Are we prepared for this 'acquisition of knowledge and skills'? Can we be 'leaders and professionals who will create and contribute to a self-sustaining economy and environment'? We bet not if we're too lazy. The problem with goals is not how behavioral objectives are stated but how these objectives are thoroughly accomplished. Everyone should act as s/he is expected to act --a working together of knowledge and sensation and sensation being put more emphasis. But there should be no implication of 'carnal knowledge' in the curriculum; being college students does not liberate us from the right to censorship. Sexuality must be as holy as it is viewed from our doctrines and must not be vulgar as if we are pagans. Everyone can be radical but not indelicate with what they speak and behave.

To our university We shall treasure this institution in our hearts. We shall not sing the march-like hymn without fully understanding its context. We shall read and comply with the memorandum for righteousness, goodness and truth printed on the back of our test booklets before we take the exams. We shall fall in line at the accounting office and cashier with all fairness and modesty as a real college student should for we are mature individuals acting as how children would respond to chastening. Accreditation is not only for the well-funded school, it exceeds all other aspects. Our very own personal development will hoist us up on top. Northern Samar being one of the poorest provinces in the country shall not hinder our ambitious pursuit to transformation; it must challenge us and not disillusion us. This institution bears a name; fifty-one years of history should tell us about what this institution is and what it has become. We deserve some uplifting and be placed on a glorious valley. The time to invest for our future is now.

Hindi bat ipinagbawal na ang pamumutol ng kahoy sa Pilipinas? O nakalimutan lang diligan ng mga environmentalist ang mga punong itinanim nila sa Mindanao kung meron nga talaga silang itinanim? Sabi nga ni Pnoy bumuo na siya ng task force para imbestigahan ang rason sa likod ng sakunang ito upang alamin kung meron nga talagang paglabag sa nationwide logging ban o wala. May paglabag man silang mapatunayan, illegal logging pa rin naman ang dahilan ng lahat ng ito. Hindi sana magiging matindi ang pagbaha upang makamatay kung hindi halos kinalbo ang mga gubat doon. Halimbawang tumama ang bagyong 'Sendong' sa Eastern Visayas, ano na kaya ang nangyari sa rehiyong ito lalong-lalo na dito sa Northern Samar? Hindi naman namin gustong mag-isip nang masama, pero dito kaya sa Laoang na may 56,000 at higit pang katao, ilan ang maaaring tangayin ng rumaragasang tubig-baha? Dapat ngang maging handa ang ating lokal na gobyerno sa ganitong mga sakuna at dapat din nating pahalagahan ang ating kagubatan. Dahil kung hindi, maaaring matulad tayo sa kalunos-lunos na nangyari sa Northern at Central Mindanao. Sana naman kumilos na tayo bago pa mahuli ang lahat.

One two three... four whatever the number is as long as there is a passer, the institution holds its head up high. For them, these students serve as a beacon to those who aspire to be professionals. Having a set of passers is also a sense of fulfillment to them, noting that they have imparted adequate education to their former protgs, with the board exam results as their proof. It is indeed touching to a professor to know that their former students are now like thempart of the Philippines roll of professionals. However, it is also sad to note that there are students who failed the examination. Much depressing, the number of those who fail is much greater than that of the passers. Others believe that the examination requires a bit of luck, since there are times that the questions that appear in the booklet are foreign to the test-takers mind. You are lucky if you happen to know almost all of them. This institution is currently striving to have a good name. It dreams to have a good impression to others so that more students will be encouraged to be educated here. And undeniably, the board examination is a big help to raise the name of this university above the ground. More passers means a highly competent faculty. More passers mean highly adequate resources. Thus, more passers mean a high quality education offered. As a developing institution, we should be aware that the world is constantly changing. Along with this, the competency standards for professionals also change. Thus, we should always cope with this in order to maintain our competitive edge. Professors must rigidly train the students so that they will be intellectually ready when the board examinations come. Exerting less effort and putting our trust in luck is a nono. By doing something, we get something. It is about time that the institution will have to focus on academic activities. The number of other activities and celebrations must be lessened so that no class hours will be neglected and thus, students will learn more. Professors must always update their resources and use newer books to put the students into the contemporary educational

They must quit. Clearly, the partially desirable board exam results lead us to one thingthat everyone in this institution must do their part in order to fulfill its main mission. If anyone refuses to play that role, then perhaps in the future, this school will never have to spend money in posting passers. Or maybe, it will be a lifetime struggle of UEPL to become one of the highly competitive schools in our province, and in our country as well.

Maituturung na ang Pilipinas ay isa sa mga bansang pilit bumabangon mula sa pagkakadapa sa kahirapan. Napakaraming mga Pilipinong naninirahan sa bansang ito ang nasa ilalim ng kahirapan. Ang iba, dahil sa nais nilang tumikim ng ginhawa sa buhay, ay nangingibangbansa pa upang magtrabo dahil kikita sila roon ng mas malaki kaysa rito sa Pilipinas. Kaya meron tayong mga Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW). Sila ang mga bagong bayaning nagsusumikap para makamtan ang inaasam sa buhay. Subalit dahil sa kahirapan sa pagbabanat ng buto ay gumagawa sila ng mga negatibong gawain. Dahil dito, marami sa ating mga Pilipino ang nahaharap sa ibat ibang kaso tulad ng pagnanakaw, kidnapping, drug trafficking at kung anu-ano pang kasalanang may kinalaman sa pera. Isa sa mga pumuputok na balita ngayon ay ang drug trafficking. Matatandaang kamakailan lamang nang may isang Pilipinong binitay sa Tsina; dahil dito ay patuloy pa rin na tumataas ang bilang ng mga Pilipinong nasasangkot dito. Bakit nga ba? Ano nga ba ang matinding dahilan at bakit nasisikmura pa rin ng iba na suungin ang ganitong uri ng trabaho kahit alam nilang buhay nila ang nakataya rito? Wala tayong ibang nakikitang rason kundi ang kahirapan. Ito ang pinag-uugatan ng lahat. Tayo kasing mga Pilipino ay may matinding pagnanais na guminhawa ang buhay kung kayat kahit delikado para sa atin ay kinakaya pa rin. Mahilig tayong kumapit sa patalim. Ang ganitong uri ng krimen ay hindi katanggaptanggap para sa ibang bansa kung kayat bitay ang nagaabang na kaparusahan para rito. Maging dito sa Pilipinas ay hindi rin iyon katanggaptanggap at walang kriminal na nabibitay rito dahil hindi aprubado sa ating bansa ang death penalty bill. Bilang resulta, marami ang walang takot na gumagawa ng masama ngunit masisisi ba natin ang pamahalaan kung bakit ganito ang estilo ng pagpapasya nila? Noong araw kung kalian binitay ang isang trenta y cinco anyos na di-kilalang Pilipino sa Tsina dahil sa drug trafficking ay ipinalabas sa telebisyon kung paano nagdalamhati ang pamilya ng biktima. Nalamanna lamang natin na binitay na ang nasabing lalaki dahil sa ating Bise-Presidente na si Jejomar Binay. Nakaaawa. Wala tayong masisisi kundi ang ating mga sarili; ginusto nating mangyari iyon sa ating buhay. Panahon na talaga para magising sa katotohanan. Huwag naman nating piliting mapasaatin ang lahat ng gusto natin. Matuto tayong tumanggap ng kung ano ang mayroon tayo. Huwag nating idaan sa baluktot na pamamaraan kung hangad natin ang makatikim ng ginhawa sa buhay, sa halip, ay magsikap tayong magtrabaho at pagpawisan natin ang bawat sentimo na ating makukuha dahil doon ay yayaman tayo. Yayaman hindi sa pera kundi sa kasaganahan. Marahil ay panahon na rin para magbago at para ituwid ang mga baluktot nating mga paa tungo sa maayos na landas. Marahil di mo nga mararamdaman ang sakit at bagsik ng lethal injection pero isipin mo ang umaasa sayokaya ba nilang tanggapin na ang bumubuhay sa kanila ay nakatakdang mamatay? I am writing to your publication to inform you that the College Editors Guild of the Philippines, the broadest and longest-running alliance of tertiary student publications in the country and in the Asia-Pacific, has established its Samar Chapter last February 2011 in a student press congress held at the UEP Farmers Training Center. This year is also the 80th year of the Guild. Historically, CEGP has been steadfast in its commitment of advancing the campus press and defending freedom of expression and the rights and welfare of the Filipinos. As such, having our own chapter of the Guild is a milestone in establishing an alliance that will link our student publications for a more stalwart campaign for genuine press freedom and other peoples issues. We are also glad to inform you that through this, we are able to have our representative in the National Council of CEGP. And in our aim of strengthening our chapter, we have launched publication hopping this year to visit tertiary publications and give lectures and discussion on the history and orientation of the Guild and other socio-political issues. This is also anchored on our aim of reaffirming the membership of its member publications including The Noumena of UEP Laoang Campus. Reaffirming your membership in the Guild means embracing the orientation that it firmly stands for, that is alternative journalism. Why alternative journalism? Alternative because it deviates from the orientation of the traditional journalism that espouses neutral reportage which, in a society characterized by glaring contradictions between the elite and the masses, is impossible. The Guild believes that journalism has always been biased as writing in itself is a subjective act. There has always been a misconception between neutrality and objectivity. We believe that objectivity is in the method, the process of collating data that will support the writers arguments. However, the whole packaging of the article emanates from the writers subjective mind from the choice of topic, phrasing, and imagery among others. The question now that a writer must confront is who deserves that bias. With this room for discretion, the bias must serve the interests of the students and the people. Presently, the issues that hound our society compel us, campus journalists, to go out from the confines of our publication offices, take a stand and join the struggle of our readers. There is the education crisis that packages our education as a commodity rather than a basic human right. The Aquino government has been constant in abandoning its mandate in funding our state colleges and universities thereby depriving the impoverished majority to be educated. Again, in the 2012 national budget, education, health and other social services dwarf compare to military spending and debt servicing. And instead of answering these legitimate demands, the government affords violence in its aim to quell the peoples mounting tempest as exemplified in the violent dispersals during the Mendiola campout organized by different progressive organizations including the CEGP. The repercussions of the crises in the society at large do not leave our campuses, and even our publication offices, unscathed. Because of the chronic education crisis, the interests of the students and of the schools administrators have been irreconcilable. With this, any form of dissent either on anti-student policies or on legitimate peoples issues is demonized or punished. This is epitomized by the escalating statistics of campus press freedom violations worsened by the flawed Campus Journalism Act of 1991. The analysis of the CEGP is this: campus press freedom violations are born out of the chronic education crisis and the education crisis is a product of the perennial crises in the society as a whole. It is in these instances that the CEGP, together with its over 750 member publications, remains at one of the forefronts in the struggle not only for the advancement of press freedom, but more so, for the peoples rights and welfare. The status quo dictates that to be neutral amidst uneven parallelisms in the landscape of society is a crime. For the CEGP believes that it is impossible to be neutral amidst glaring contradictions in the society and it is never enough to be a mere watchdog of the society. We believe that it is not enough to write history; we believe that it is necessary for a journalist to intervene in the making of history. This year is the 80th year of CEGP. This year also marks a more heightened social involvement of us, campus journalists. We are looking forward to a more active involvement of your student publication in the Guilds activities.
