Instructions Using searching techniques described in Chapter 3 and the search engines and directories listed for each question, locate the following pieces of information. Refer to the Search Engines & Web Resources handout (in D2L Content) for a listing of search engines and subject directories. To validate that you found the requested information, you should complete each of the following: 1. Save this document in your Documents folder using the Save As command. Verify that you are saving in Documents! When you download from D2L, Windows likes to save in Downloads or Temporary folders. 2. Locate the answer using the search engine/directory listed AND one other search engine of your choice. 3. Include the URLs to the search engines results page. Each search that you do, copy/paste the URL to the results page (with all of the listings). To do this, right-click in the Address bar in your web browser. Choose Copy. Return to this Word document, then choose Paste. 4. Include the URLs of the web page with the answer (not the results page). From your search results page, choose one or two that appear to answer the question (you must find ONE with the answer). When you click through a web page with the answer(s), copy/paste the URL. To do this, right-click in the Address bar in your web browser. Choose Copy. Return to this Word document, then choose Paste. 5. Type the answers to the questions. 6. Wikipedia can only be used 2 times within your answers! Good luck! This assignment is due 2/12/12 and is worth 15 points. Upload your completed document to the Chapter 3 - Internet Searching Dropbox in D2L. Be sure to include your name and date on your document. 1. 10. Summary: Please type a brief paragraph that summarizes what you learned from this assignment. Try to answer these questions in your summary. Which of these search engines have you used before, if any? Did you find the same answers using two different search engines? Why or why not? I have used some of the search engines that you had us use in this assignment before like Ask, Bing, and Google. I didnt notice much of a difference in the search results from search engine to search engine because most of the lesser ones used the bigger ones like Google or Yahoo to find the results. I mainly use Yahoos search engine because it is my browsers home page and my email is through Yahoo.
