Notes Variations

bhavadASara haraNa - bhava ASara haraNa : ' bhavadASara haraNa' can be split as 'bhava+da+ASara+haraNa'. It is not clear which one is the correct

version. While 'ASara haraNa' means 'dest'bhava ASara haraNa' also does not make proper sense, unless 'bhava' is taken as the 'demon' (bhava ASara) (demon of Worldly Existence). In that case, it could be translated as 'destroyer of demon of Worldly Existence'. According to Moniers Sanskrit Dictionary while da generally means giver, it (da) also means cut off jIvada means life cutter and analada means quenching fire ie water. Therefore, here also da has been taken to mean cut off; accordingly bhavada (bhava+da) has been translated as one who cust off bhava Worldly Existence. References
