This annual report will give a detailed overview about CRTDPs work within the last year beginning

1. Rural Development
The rural work has been continued in all 38 villages at Nagazari side and Yerangaon side, 18 villages at Nagazari side and 20 villages at Yerangaon side. At Nagazari side you can find 82 Self Help Groups (SHG) and at Yerangaon side there are now 85 SHGs. 4 new SHGS have been formed in the villages Yerangaon, Agargaon, Khapa Nipani and Nandora in 2011. All those groups have been formed to provide a frame for women to come together, talk about their problems, to find solutions and to save money. Each member pays a certain amount of money which will be safed at bank account. In case of emergency members are able to lend a certain amount from the SHG at 2% interest. This year we have had 3 health camps. One was held in May 2011 in Sheshnagar where about 85 people were treated. Another was held in Yerangaon in July where 135 people received treatment. Again we successfully worked together with Mure Memorial Hospital, which offered free medicine and also sent doctors and nurses for the camps. We are very happy about their continuous help. Another health camp was held in December 2011 in Yerangaon where 110 patients were treated. Doctors from the governmental Privat Health Center also helped in this. Besides that the trainings for health workers and midwives are going on very well. 3 trainings were held lately. In July 2011 we trained about diarrhea, eye problems, new medicines and blood and urine tests. This training was held on 2 days and 19 Health workers and 20 midwives participated. In September 2011 18 health workers and 22 midwives took part in the Dengue Fever and Malaria workshop. Another training was held in October 2011 where general parts of the body and their functions were explained. Besides that participants (15 health worker and 22 midwifes) were informed about cancer.

A further programme is called the Village Development Programme (VDP) which was implemented in 4 villages of Hinga block. Those villages are Yerangaon, Arangaon, Khapa Nipani and Nandora. We have formed village development committees (VDC) in each village as well as listed out the main problems and necessities of the people according to priority. A sensitization workshop was also taken in June where the BDO, Tahsildar forest officials,

Page |5 Pauchayat Sammittee and VDP members were present and shared their views. A great achievement of the VDP was getting sanction of a water line for providing drinking water to the villagers of Khapa Nipani by the forest department. This would save the women from walking 2 -3 kms for catching water from deep inside the forest. Blankets were also distributes in these villages which were provided by CASA. An exposure visit to NRCC, CICR and KVK is planned in January 2012. Another project which we are running since 4 years is called the goat project. CRTDP rural work, supported by Swedish churches, has provided 24 goats. Those goats have been given to members of Self Help Group of Nagazari. Aim of the project is to reproduce goats. Those goats will be given on a rotational basis to women so that all the 63 women of the 5 SHGs would benefit and get additional income for their families. This project is self renewable and therefore still going on very well. In December 2011 we gave the 4th batch of goats to a SHG by the help of Aesa and Henrik Brodd, who are representatives of Project India from Sweden.

2. BMPT
Barbaras Multipurpose Polytechnic (BMPT) is CRTDPs institution to offer education to young people from poor social background such as school dropout, child labourers, destitute women or HIV affected or infected people. In addition the institution provides a destitute home and hostel to offer shelter to the students. There are 2 hostels which can accommodate 16 to 29 students. At the moment there are 4 courses. There is one basic nursing course and furthermore 3 technical trainings in the field of electric motor rewinding, scooter motor repairing and refrigerator and air conditioning. To supply classes which are in line with the market it would be helpful to open a course for tractor repairing. Lots of students have a rural background so they could support their families or moreover open their own business by selling repairing services in rural areas. Furthermore rural exodus would be avoided. Therefore tractor and additional teachers would be necessary but are not affordable at this time. There are 2 types of students studying at BMPT: Private students who pay a reasonable amount of money for the training and if necessary for accommodation and sponsored students who are exempted from those fees. In that case fees and costs will be covered by governmental projects such as REDP (Rural Entrepreneurship Development Programme), MSME (Ministry of micro, small and medium enterprises) and NGO projects such as the Rehabilitation Project (CRTDP/ DIZ/ BMZ Germany). Out of these fees BMPT tries to work self sufficiently but as CRTDP and BMPT want to support poor and needy students costs for them are low but still not cost effective. Therefore BMPT tries to increase the income by using the available property such as fields and hall which are given on rent for programmes and marriages. To use the agriculture land on BMPTs land in an effective way it would be helpful to have a person who looks after the field. A professional gardener who is responsible for that could make it possible to increase the harvest. Crops that are not necessarily used for nutrition of the students could be sold. Furthermore courses about agriculture could be offered. The field could therefore also be used for teaching. Unfortunately the BMPT does not have a budget for this.

Page |7 Furthermore there are buildings at BMPT ground which are rented out. At the moment 14 shops plus one room which is used by a bank are rented. Since renting is a well going business BMPTs management has started to build 8 more shops. With those rents it will be possible to work more self sufficiently. Unfortunately at the moment more funds are needed to complete constructions. Besides that the hall is rented out for events. Workshops and seminars are held there which makes it possible to earn money. With that additional money the following maintenance and repairing work was done: Sewage system of BMPT was repaired and modified Girls and boys hostels were painted SFL bulk has been exchanged Volleyball playground was built and badminton games have been distributed Water tanks have been replaced Multimedia system was installed at the dining hall Property around office building and hostels was cultivated and cleaned

If funds were available following wishes and plans for the future would be put into action: Get new motorbike for SMR course practical Get tractors and/ or mobile phones to implement a new course Replace windows of hostels Paint doors Employ a gardener who looks after the fields

3. DWCDI
(Destitute women and children development institute)

DWCDI is that part of CRTDPs work that concentrates on womens and childrens needs. DWCDI is mainly supported by Phoenix India UK. An additional amount is provided by DWCDI itself due receipts of training fees. Especially widows, destitute, neglected and poor women receive training and support. To achieve above mentioned aims DWCDI runs different sub projects which are:

Daycare Centre: At the moment we run 5 Daycare centre in 3 slums. There are about 25 children in each DCC at the age of 3 to 6 years who get basic education like writing and reading. Furthermore they get moral education such as not to make differences between religion, caste or gender. These daycare center also support families as their parents, especially mothers, who are now free to go about their daily work.

Women Cell: DWCDI is running 2 women cells where social workers offer family counseling and guidance. In case of family matters women request DWCDI for help to solve their problems. Often reported problems are such like violence, alcoholism, unfaithfulness and problems concerning money. Hingnas Women Cell has been working since 1998. In additional to this we have opened another Women Cell in Khaparkheda in August 2011. Within the last year 89 cases were reported at Hingna Women Cell. Out of this 43 cases are settled, 6 were transferred to Nagpur Rural Commotional Office, 2 were transferred to Wardhas office and 30 cases are still in progress. 32 cases were reported at Khaparkhedas women during the last 4 months. 1o were solved, 1 has been sent to police station, 1 has been sent to court and another 20 are in progress. We hope to find peaceful solutions for the remaining cases to save women from the consequences from breaking up.

Page |9 Trainings: To assist women in their financial independence DWCDI also offers trainings to destitute and school dropout girls and women for a small fee. Those courses are held at CRTDPs headquarter in Nagpur and also in Hingna. This year we have given free trainings to 75 Barbalas (Neglected group of the society). 25 young women were taught Tailoring and Embroidery, 25 for Beauty Parlor and 25 for Jardoji and Hand Embroidery. We have given all raw materials without charges and we are happy to say that more than 40 students have started their own business. All expenses were borne by DWCDI. Moreover we were able to offer a free of cost summer course for Chinese cooking. Due to additional funds from Phoenix India we could offer training to 150 women who were taught in snacks making and broom making. Now 6 women which are living in slum areas opened their own snack shops which assure them an income for about 500 to 600 Rs. per day. At DWCDIs Women Development programme women self help groups were formed. The aim of those groups is to support each other in difficult times by general support as well as financial assurance with the aid of monthly savings. Besides that social workers support women by offering meetings concerning health, family planning and awareness building etc. Another really important part of DWCDIs work are weekly health camps. At 2 slums, namely Rajnagar slum and Pardvatinagar, we offer health camps and medical support for all families. For a small amount of money (5 Rs.) people get treatment and medicine. Major reported problems are body pain, malaria, headaches, diarrhea, fever, cough, tuberculosis, heart problems and gynecological problems. Therefore we have employed a part-time doctor in July 2011. Since then 197 cases have been reported at Rajnagar slum and 173 cases at Pardvatinagar slum.

4. Watershed Project
The work of CRTDPs watershed project started in 1996. This project is supported by NABARD and Indo- German- Watershed Development Programme. Within the last few years following projects were completed: 1st Project: Mandwa completed in 2001 2nd Project: Nagazari and Katangthara completed in 2005 3rd project: Kanyadol and Kakurda completed in 2009 4th project: Wardha district which included the villages Dhumankheda, Lahori and Radegaon. Furthermore there are 3 running projects which have positive effect to 9 villages. 1st project: Panubali and Sonoli started in 2008 2nd project: Lakhmapur and Degma started in 2009 3rd project: Wardha District which include the villages Kursapar, Doulatpur, Kawdapur, Dhamagaon and Sukali. CRTDP works at these villages in two ways. First there is the technical work which supports farmers in their agriculture activities and offers trainings and also field work support by planning efficient water and soil conversation systems. Farmers Clubs are formed to connect farmers in their community but also to other villages. By help of famers and external labors steps are realized. Within a short time of duration farmers realize a positive effect on their quantity and quality of crops.

Due to decisions from NABARD now people who do work connecting to watershed project will be paid an increased income.

P a g e | 12 The second part is social development. Therefore women SHGs were formed in each village. At the moment there are 11 SHGs with a total of 136 members at Panubali and Sonoli, 4 SHGs with 49 members in Lakhmapur and Degma and 36 SHGs with 448 members in Wardha District. These SHGs save money just like SHGs which were formed by CRTDPs rural work or DWCDI. In addition to this NABARD supports those groups through projects like Women development activities, whose funds are used to improve social activities and for income generating activities. The following activities were taken up this year: Panubali Sonoli: October 2011: Distribution of 87 LPG Gas connections and 12 mixer/ grinding machines to members of SHG Plan for start of 2012: provide papad machines to give a possibility to increase womens income.

Lakhmapur Degma: August 2010: Distribution of galvanized seeds, watertanks, solarlights and mixer graving machines 2011: Planning of social activities and income generating activities Plan for start of 2012: making of 25 toilets, distribution of 20 LPG gas connections and 4 building bathrooms Furthermore: providing tents which can be used by the whole community for weddings, funerals etc.

5. Rehabilitation Center
Since 1st of October we are running a new project in collaboration with DIZ Germany and BMZ Germany called Rehabilitation for youth infected and affected by HIV and AIDS. The aim of this project is to offer trainings to infected and affected young people living with HIV/ AIDS (age 15 till 19 years). They are either infected themselves or one (or more) of their family member is infected. Due to this difficult situation it is often problematic for them to get proper education as their families are depending on their help in the house or the income they might get due to labor work etc. Furthermore problems are expected when joining normal institutions for trainings such as colleges etc. because still a lot of people are not familiar with the risks about HIV/ AIDS so they might get dismissed by other students. To avoid those difficulties Rehabilitation Center is offering free trainings to those students. At CRTDPs own Training Center BMPT they get trainings in one of the 4 courses and furthermore education in live skill education, health checkups, as well as accommodation and food. Please see BMPT description on page 6 for further information about their services and work. Since start of the project we have indentified 22 students who are now studying at BMPT. There are 8 boys and 14 girls who are taking trainings.

Furthermore awareness buildings are held in villages and Nagpur city. Our focus is based on community areas and schools where we inform about ways of infection and how to avoid HIV infection. We also try to clarify prejudice. Especially in school we give lessons about live skill education (sex education) and also organize competitions which have a focus on HIV/ AIDS. Besides that health camps are organized where free medical checkup is offered. Due to dialogue between doctor and patient we try to identify high risk HIV positive people who will be referred for further counseling and tests to ICTC (Integrated counseling and testing center). If necessary further treatments are offered by referring them to the ART centre and linking them with PLHIV network (People living with HIV/ Aids). For this new programme we have also opened a new office. This office building is directly located at BMPTs training center which is very helpful as our staff is now working at the same place where students study and live.

6. HIV/ AIDS Slum and Migrant Project

Since June 2004 we are running an AVERT supported project called HIV/AIDS Slum and Migrant project. The focus is on migrated people who have come from rural area or even other states (outside Maharashtra) to work in Nagpur. These people have a higher risk contacting HIV as their families are often not with them. Therefore we have opened a new office in Chikhli near to Nagpurs biggest wholesale grains, vegetable and fruit market in April 2010 where a lot of migrated people stay. Social workers are visiting those places as well as construction areas where a lot of people with higher risk are found. Due to 1 to 1 and 1 to group sessions as well as street plays and condom demonstration awareness buildings will be put into action. Behavior change is the main aim but besides that STI (sexual transmitted diseases) treatment is also given. In the following steps we refer people to ICTC. If necessary staff member accompany patients to ICTC centers which are mainly found at governmental hospitals. Furthermore there is a HIV Testing Van which is provided by AVERT. This van was designed for medical purpose and contains 3 different rooms for medical checkup, counseling and laboratory. The van goes to villages, market places, construction areas and other places where people with higher risk are found. Free HIV/ STI tests are done and results are available within 4 hours. All results will be kept confidential. If patients are found as HIV positive further actions will be put into service. Medical treatments will be given and also if desired patients will be referenced to PLHIV (networks).Within the last year we have counseled 9453 people.

7. HIV/ AIDS Link Workers Scheme (LWS)

Since 15th October 2011 we are running a new project called HIV/ AIDS Link Workers Scheme, which is similar to the HIV/ AIDS Migrant project. This project is also supported by AVERT society and has already started in 2009. CRTDP has undertaken this project with 8 new staff member. These people are working together with 40 Link workers who live in rural communities. Each link worker is responsible for 2 to 3 villages. All in all 100 villages of Nagpur district are included in this project. Link workers and staff member are working in the fields of awareness building and HIV testing and furthermore provide services. For that reason youth trainings, 1 to 1 discussions are held, street plays are performed and rallies are organized. Teaching materials like brochures and condoms are distributed to target audience. Therefore each village has a Knowledge Information Center which is run by volunteers who live in the rural community. Link workers job is to collect data about the population of the villages also by help of the local volunteers. Depending on demographic structure and activities of inhabitants (truckers, sex worker, migrant people etc.) also health camps are organized. People who have a higher risk catching HIV will be sent to ICTC to get more counseling and also free HIV Tests. For those people who dont have the chance to get to ICTC the AVERT Testing Van is visiting villages in regular periods. Since the start of the project at CRTDP 1446 people were referred for HIV Testing. Out of this 1219 people got tested. As mentioned earlier people are very afraid of positive diagnostic so it is hard to convince them about the necessity of getting tested.
