loose...!!! Ever seen a 2D design unfolding into a dress....?? A man with his legendary ideas has made it possible and has revolutionized the fashion world! A man who has amazed the world with his unique combo of fashion and engineering! Isse Miyake born on 22nd April 1938 in Hiroshima, Japan, witnessed and survived the Hiroshima and Nagasaki attack. Walking over the two bridges: TO LIVE and TO DIE, situated near the epicentre where the Atomic bomb hit in Hiroshima , Miyake had his first encounter with designs ability to inspire powerful emotional responses and hope. And so he decided to make his career in the field of graphic designing and joined Tama Art University, Tokyo. In 1970, he founded the Miyake Design studio,a high-end producer of women's fashion. He also developed a friendship with Apple's Steve Jobs and produced the black turtlenecks which became a part of Jobs' signature attire. Jobs said, "So I asked Issey to make me some of his black turtlenecks that I liked, and he made me like a hundred of them." Miyakes unwavering approach to creation is the freedom to have ideas, unconstrained by any pre existing rules or framework, and to be able to make them realities through a tenacious process of research and experimentation. Myake gifted the fashion world with some very unique and aesthetic ideas. A-POC acronym for A Piece Of Cloth: A-POC based upon Miyakes first design concept, is a new and unique suggestion for everyday life, which goes far beyond the boundaries of fashion. It is made using an industrial knitting or weaving machine programmed by a computer. This process creates continuous tubes of fabric within which lie

both shape and pattern. The customer cuts sleeves and skirts exactly to the length he wants. It is an idea that totally overthrows the existing standards for making clothes. The A-POC method requires no sewing. Thread goes into the loom, the dress comes out. Specifically, a flattened tube of material emerges that contains the finished shirt, skirt, or pants, which need only to be cut out along the faint outline already woven or knit into the fabric .

PLEATS PLEASE: Inspired by the work of computer scientist Jun Mitani, who creates three-dimensional structures with smoothly curved surfaces by folding flat materials, Miyake designed 132 5. A range of clothing that expands from two-dimensional geometric shapes into structured shirts, skirts, pants and dresses. In the late 1980s, he began to experiment with new methods of pleating that would allow both flexibility of movement for the wearer as well as ease of care and production. This eventually resulted in a new technique called garment pleating in 1993's Pleats Please in which the garments are cut and sewn first, then sandwiched between layers of paper and fed into a heat press, where they are pleated. The fabric's 'memory' holds the pleats and when the garments are liberated from their paper cocoon, they are ready-to wear. He did the costume for Ballet Frankfurt with pleats in a piece named "The Loss of Small Detail William and also worked on ballet "Garden in the setting". The 74-year-old Japanese designer has shown nearly 100 collections and won almost every fashion award in existence. Long admired for his innovation, Miyake has boiled and melted fabric and played with bamboo and ultrasound. He has invented the science of wrinkling and perfected the art of surprise. He sent one final zinger down the runway: 23 models wearing a single dress. Not 23 dresses sewn together, but a single banner of fabric embedded with 23 dresses - connected like a chain of paper dolls. Issey Miyakes other famous BRANDS and LINES are: Haat - women's line, designed by Miyake's former textile designer, Makiko Managua. Haat means 'village market' in Sanskrit, the word sound similar to 'heart' in English. (Since 2000).

Me Issey Miyake - line of "exclusive one-sized shirts that stretch to fit the wearer" that are sold in plastic tube, named Cauliflower for the non-Asian market. (since 2001) 21-21 Design Sight is a museum-style research centre for design, constructed by Tadao Ando, that was opened in Roppongi,Tokyo in March 2007. The centre is headed by Issey Miyake and four other Japanese designers and operated by The Miyake Issey Foundation.
