The Future of Hospital Financing

Tuesday, July 19, 2005

For more information go to: http://www.chefchicago.org/opportunities/default.asp

Hospital financing, an essential component of healthcare, is more challenging than ever and gaining complexity with every
year. There are a number of factors driving change, including:

• Budgetary pressures on Medicare and Medicaid

• Rapid escalation of healthcare IT investments
• Augmenting cost and complexity of clinical technology
• Stricter regulatory oversight
• Evolving joint partnership

Given these opposing pressures, many questions emerge. What are the future implications of a cash/credit crunch? What
are the options for revenue enhancement and cost reduction? How can you evaluate the legal implications of a joint
venture? How can you distinguish the gold mines from the minefields?

Everyone involved with or impacted by hospital administration will benefit from this program. By attending this event you will
learn about:
• Financial challenges facing hospitals
• Creative financing options for technology investment – both clinical and IT
• Evolving regulatory changes regarding gain sharing arrangements, tax-exempt status, etc.
• The “how” and “why” of joint partnership
• And more …

CHEF looks to clarify these and other questions by presenting an expert panel, hosted by Ogan Gurel, MD – Chairman of
the Aesis Research Group. Our panel represents lawyers, consultants, providers, and association executives. Members of
the panel include:

• Mark Taylor, reporter, ModernHealthcare will be moderating this event.

• Scott Becker, Esq. Co-Chair of the Healthcare Practice, McGuireWoods LLP

• Therese Wareham, Partner, KaufmanHall
• Richard Clarke, DHA, FHFMA, President, Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA),
• Jim Doyle FHFMA CPA, Senior VP & CFO, Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare
• Gordon Holtby, Managing Director, Healthcare Business Credit Corporation
