MOMENTS IN TIME On Feb. 18, 1885, Mark Twain publishes his famous and controversial novel "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn." At the book's heart is the journey of Huck and his friend Jim, a runaway slave, down the Mississippi River on a raft. On Feb. 13, 1915, The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) is formed. ASCAP collects and distributes royalties for copyrighted musical works. Today, ASCAP reports that it distributes more than $800 million in royalties annually to its members. On Feb. 14, 1929, Sir Alexander Fleming, a bacteriologist, discovers penicillin. Having left a plate of staphylococcus bacteria uncovered, Fleming noticed that a mold, similar to the kind found on bread, had fallen on the culture and had killed many of the bacteria. On Feb. 17, 1966, Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys rolls tape on the first take of "Good Vibrations." Six months, four studios and $50,000 later, he finally completed his 3 minute, 39 second symphony, pieced together from more than 90 hours of tape recorded during literally hundreds of sessions.

I started receiving them at the end of December. -- Darla J., Cleveland A: Catalogs are sent early to give you plenty of time to plan this years garden and order your seeds, of course. While we tend to be preoccupied in January and February with shoveling snow and staying warm, February is prime time for ordering seeds. Most companies make their shipments this month. Its also just a nice, quiet time of year for most homeowners, right after the holidays and before spring lawn care and exterior house repairs gear up. So this is a great time to sit down with your catalogs or browse the Web looking for ideas on things to grow and ways to configure your garden. One of my favorite Web sites is A Way to Garden (http:// awaytogarden.com), which features plenty of advice for gardeners of all levels, as well as video and pictorial instructions, podcasts and other fun. Its a good place to start if youre new to researching gardening and seeds on the Web. If you want to do something more than sowing herbs or struggling with tomatoes (not saying other people struggle to get big red tomatoes, but I sure do), look into planting vegetables or flowers native to your area. For example, residents of coastal Virginia or Maryland might want to look at Annapolis Seeds (http://www.annapolisseeds.com/), which produces seeds native to the Maritimes.

PAWS CORNER By Sam Mazzotta Be a Responsible Pet Owner February is Responsible Pet Owners Month, and while I sometimes grouse about events that designate a specific period of the year to do something that should obviously be done every single day, I think its a worthy way to enlighten new pet owners or those thinking about getting a pet on how to care for that pet. So, how can you be a responsible pet owner? If youre considering getting a pet: - -Study and learn all you can about the pet or breed youre interested in. --Consider adopting from a shelter or rescue. - -Avoid buying dogs from puppy mills, at flea markets or other sketchy places. --If buying from a breeder, research and consider carefully before making a purchase. If you already have a pet: - -Spay or neuter your pet. - -Do more than just provide food, water and shelter: Give your pet lots of love and attention. --Teach your children how to properly care for pets and how to play responsibly with them. - -Provide regular, daily obedience training to your dog. - -Keep your cat indoors. - -When taking your dog out for a walk, follow your towns leash laws and pick up after it. --At dog parks, follow the posted rules. Owners who dont follow rules can put the park at risk of being shut down. Dont be that guy. There are, of course, many other ways to be a responsible pet owner. But this is a good time to review the way you care for your pets, the routines youve fallen into, the training youve meant to start -and to plan new fun and activities for your pets and family. Send your questions or tips to ask@pawscorner.com, or write to Paws Corner, c/o King Features Weekly Service, P.O. Box 536475, Orlando, FL 32853-6475. What needs cleaning? I walk in and out of our backdoor numerous times every day. More times than I can remember. So I see this door a lot, but I learned the other day that I dont really look at it. For some reason - maybe my angle was different, perhaps I slowed down as I walked up to it - I noticed how dirty the glass was in this door. Its a full length, glass storm door so its not like there are panes to look around or anything. But it was like I saw it for the first time, or the first time in a long time. And it had fingerprints, palm prints, smudges, and, of course, yellow Lab nose prints, on it. So I got some window cleaner from the pantry, sprayed and wiped the window, stood back and admired it and wondered, Why hadnt I noticed that before? Maybe youre that way about some part of life - your negative attitude, quick temper, or grouchy disposition. You walk by it everyday but dont really look at it. Look for what needs cleaning as you listen to life and Live Positive today. A public service message brought to you by

STRANGE BUT TRUE It was 19th-century German philosopher, composer and poet Friedrich Nietzsche who made the following sage observation: "At times one remains faithful to a cause only because its opponents do not cease to be insipid." Despite all the cartoons you've seen throughout your life, rabbits generally prefer greens to carrots, and mice would rather eat grains and fruit than cheese. The area that is now the state of California had a population of about 700 in 1854. In 2010, the population had increased to 37,253,956. In the span of just over one and a half centuries, the population increased a whopping 53,000 times.

MOMENTS IN TIME On Feb. 16, 1848, romantic composer Frederic Chopin plays his final concert in his adopted city of Paris, 18 months before his death from tuberculosis at the age of 39. After fleeing his native Poland, he spent the rest of his life amid the high society of France. On Feb. 19, 1851, an angry mob in San Francisco's business district "tries" two Australian suspects in the robbery and assault of C.J. Jansen. Vigilantes were fairly common during the Gold Rush boom in San Francisco, and they were so well regarded that they took over the Democratic Party in the late 1850s, and some became respected politicians.

On Feb. 13, 1915, The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) is formed. ASCAP collects and distributes royalties for copyrighted musical works. Today, ASCAP reports that it distributes more than $800 million in royalties annually to its members. On Feb. 15, 1933, presidentelect Franklin D. Roosevelt escapes an assassination attempt. Deranged, unemployed brick layer Giuseppe Zangara shouted, "Too many people are starving!" and opened fire with six rounds. Zangara's extreme action reflected the anger and frustration felt among many Americans during the Great Depression. (c) 2012 King Features Synd., Inc.

How the Donut Hole Worked for 2011

This is the standard Part D drug prescription plan for 2011 required by Medicare. * If you join a Medicare prescription drug plan, you may have to pay up to the first $310 of your drug costs. This is known as the deductible. * During the initial coverage phase, you pay a copayment or coinsurance, and your Part D drug plan pays its share for each covered drug until your combined amount (including your deductible) reaches $2840. * Once you and your Part D drug plan have spent $2,840 for covered drugs, you will be in the donut hole. Previously, you had to pay the full cost of your prescription drugs while in the donut hole. However, in 2011, you get a 50% discount on covered brand-name prescription medications. The donut hole continues until your total out-of-pocket cost reaches $4,550. This annual out-of-pocket spending amount includes your yearly deductible, copayment, and coinsurance amounts. * When you spend more than $4,550 out-of-pocket, the coverage gap ends and your drug plan pays most of the costs of your covered drugs for the remainder of the year. You will then be responsible for a small copayment. This is known as catastrophic coverage. The expenses outlined above only include the cost of prescription medications. It does not include the monthly premium that you pay to the prescription drug plan. It is important to understand that your Part D prescription drug plan may differ from the standard Medicare plan only if the plan offers you a better benefit. For example, your plan can eliminate or lower the amount of the deductible.

IRS Reminds Parents of Ten Tax Benefits

Your kids can be helpful at tax time. That doesnt mean theyll sort your tax receipts or refill your coffee, but those charming children may help you qualify for some valuable tax benefits. Here are 10 things the IRS wants parents to consider when filing their taxes this year. 1. Dependents- In most cases, a child can be claimed as a dependent in the year they were born. For more information see IRS Publication 501, Exemptions, Standard Deduction, and Filing Information. 2. Child Tax CreditYou may be able to take this credit for each of your children under age 17. If you do not benefit from the full amount of the Child Tax Credit, you may be eligible for the Additional Child Tax Credit. For more information see IRS Publication 972, Child Tax Credit. 3. Child and Dependent Care Credit- You may be able to claim this credit if you

pay someone to care for your child or children under age 13 so that you can work or look for work. See IRS Publication 503, Child and Dependent Care Expenses. 4. Earned Income Tax Credit- The EITC is a tax benefit for certain people who work and have earned income from wages, selfemployment or farming. EITC reduces the amount of tax you owe and may also give you a refund. IRS Publication 596, Earned Income Credit, has more details. 5. Adoption Credit- You may be able to take a tax credit for qualifying expenses paid to adopt an eligible child. If you claim the adoption credit, you must file a paper tax return with required adoption-related documents. For details, see the instructions for IRS Form 8839, Qualified Adoption Expenses. 6. Children with earned income- If your child has income earned from working, they may be required to file a tax return. For more information, see IRS Publication 501. 7. Children with

investment income- Under certain circumstances a childs investment income may be taxed at their parents tax rate. For more information, see IRS Publication 929, Tax Rules for Children and Dependents. 8. Higher education credits- Education tax credits can help offset the costs of higher education. The American Opportunity and the Lifetime Learning Credits are education credits that can reduce your federal income tax dollar-for-dollar. See IRS

Four Tax Tips Regarding Tip Income

(IRS)- If your pay from work involves compensation through tips, then the IRS would like you to be aware of a few facts about tip income. Here are four key points to keep in mind: 1. Tips are taxable- Tips are subject to federal income, Social Security and Medicare taxes. The value of non-cash tips, such as tickets, passes or other items of value, is also considered income and subject to tax. 2. Include tips on your tax return- You must include

And, your plan can pay for generic or brand name medications in the coverage gap. Health Reform and Medicare Part D The Affordable Care Act signed into law on March 23, 2010 makes several changes to Medicare Part D to reduce your out-of-pocket costs when you reach the donut hole, including: * In 2010, if you had expenses in the coverage gap, you should have received a $250 rebate from Medicare. * Beginning in 2011, if you reach the donut hole, you will be given a 50% discount on the total cost of brand name drugs while in the gap. * Medicare will phase in additional discounts on the cost of both brand name and generic drugs. By 2020, these changes will effectively close the coverage gap and rather than paying 100% of the costs, your responsibility will be 25% of the costs. By Tresa Erickson Youve seen enough to know that weddings can bring out the worst in people. Joining two people from different backgrounds in holy matrimony is rarely smooth sailing. What should be a union of two often turns into a union of families, and that can make for very difficult times. Even when the families take a step back to respect the wishes of the bride and groom, things can get out of hand. Although the wedding is theirs, brides and grooms can get carried away and alienate others with their wedding choices. How do you avoid this? You learn the art of compromise. Compromise, a settlement of differences by mutual concessions. Thats right. Differences and concessions. With so many people involved the planning of a wedding, it is not uncommon for differences to occur. Whether concessions are made depends upon the willingness of the parties involved. Are you willing to consider options other than your own? Are you willing to consider that the options of others might be better? Just because you want round tables at your reception does not mean you should have them. They may not be available or work for the space.

Flowers Ancient Roman brides carried herbs under their veils; that practice gave way to the carrying of orange blossoms as a symbol of fertility, and these flowers have remained traditional wedding flowers. In the past, healthy spring flowers were carried by the bride to symbolize fertility. Flower girls were originally young girls who preceded the bride carrying grain to symbolize fertility. Carrying the Bride over the Threshold Carrying the bride over the threshold dates back to ancient Rome, when it was considered bad luck for the bride to stumble or trip as she entered her new home. The Romans also had a custom of dragging reluctant brides into their new homes. Throwing Rice Originally thrown to increase fertility (symbolizing the close relationship between women and the life-bearing grain). Rice was often used as a basic food, and thus, rice was thrown to wish plenty and prosperity. Something Old, Borrowed, Blue and a Penny Something old - the old from your heritage combines with the new of your marriage into a perfect union. Something borrowed - the borrowed item represents friendliness. Something blue - the blue item denotes faithfulness. A penny in the shoe is for prosperity in your marriage. Honeymoons The ancient Teutons celebrated marriages in Germany with a long period of feasting and drinking. Special wine, which was brewed from the honey and yeast, was consumed for 30 days from the full moon under which the couple was married until the next full moon. (Thus, the term honeymoon.) Many ancient people also thought the moon was guardian of lovers. Months when the moon shines more brightly, such as June, were believed to be excellent times for marriage.

Of course, not all opinions are feasible. You must be able to separate the good from the bad, the essential from the non-essential, the important from the not so important. If an idea will not work, theres no use in considering it. If an idea will work but you have your heart set on something else, its fine to axe it. It is your wedding, and you dont have to concede on everything. Do remember, however, that your wedding will be just the first of many good days to come. The fact that you have to simplify the wording on the invitations for your parents sake probably wont matter to you 10 years from now. Respect is key. Family and friends must understand that it is not their wedding and respect the wishes of those involved, in particular the bride and groom. The bride and groom must understand that while it is their wedding there

and safety requirements, you may still encounter some hurdles. Some officiants will not preside over weddings that do not take place on their churchs grounds. Will yours? Some cities require permits for large events like weddings. Does yours? Some neighbors are very particular about what goes on near their homes and will put up a great fuss. Will yours? The potential for damage and bad weather can also be factors. The more people traipsing in and around your home, the more likely things will get broke. Are you prepared for this? If you are having your wedding outside and the weather turns sour, can you move everything inside? Determining whether to have a wedding at home is not a decision to take lightly. While home weddings are becoming popular, not every home is equipped for such an event. Make sure yours is. Home Sweet Home
By Tresa Erickson Of all the elements involved in the planning of a wedding, the selection of the bridal gown can be one of the most time consuming. The search for the perfect dress usually gets underway soon after the engagement has been announced and continues for weeks and sometimes months afterward. If you have recently gotten engaged, here are some tips to help you with the search. Start early The sooner you start looking for a wedding dress, the better chance you will have of finding just the right one and the accessories to go with it. You will also have plenty of time for alterations. And should you choose not to buy a gown off the rack and customer order one instead, you wont have to worry about it not arriving in time. Be open Dont pick the dress. Let it pick you. Go ahead and page through all of those bridal magazines. The more you know about whats out there, the better idea youll have of what you want. But dont limit your shopping to any one style, color or designer. Just because a particular style of dress looks good on the page does not mean it will look good on you at the store. You want a gown that not only appeals to your tastes but flatters your figure. Bring a guide Find a trusted friend or family member willing to go shopping with you and help you decide. You need someone who can give you an honest opinion of each dress you try on, good or bad. Choose someone who will tell you what they think, not what you want to hear. Shop around Take several days to check out the selection at various bridal shops and try on as many styles as possible. Ask if you can take photos of the gowns that really interest you. If not, bring a notebook so that you can jot down the name of the gowns you like best and where to find them. Dont trust your memory to keep track of what you like and where to find it. Keep at it Continue your search until you find the perfect gown, and when you do, stop! Purchase the dress right then and there and turn your attention to the other tasks on your to-do list. Dont continue to shop on the off chance you will find something better. Chances are you wont, and when you return to the store to purchase the dress of your dreams, someone else may have already beat you to it. Shopping for a gown can take a lot of time. While some

brides come upon the dress of their dreams within the first few hours of shopping, most dont. Prepare for the task to take a while and enjoy!

Bridal Shower Ideas

Are you stumped for an idea for a really nice shower for a friend or relative? There are many possibilities. Themed showers are practical and very popular today. A theme is especially nice when there is to be more than one shower. It can prevent duplicates. Here are some ideas for a themed shower: Lingerie Or Personal Showers These showers are fun. Gifts can include all the beautiful things most people dont buy for themselves. They help prepare the trousseau for the honeymoon. Gifts may include lacy nightgowns, camisoles, sexy underwear, bras or a nice robe. Other items may be perfume, bath accessories or earrings. Or buy a pretty frame and get a baby picture of the brides fianc from his mother. It will not only surprise the bride, but will be something to cherish for years. Linen Showers These showers are always useful. You may want to let everyone know the color scheme. It can be helpful for the couple to register in a department store for items such as monogrammed towels, a scale, bathroom sets, sheets, pillows and blankets. Kitchen Showers This is a great shower, especially if its co-ed. Gift ideas are endless and range from small and inexpensive to larger, fancy appliances. Browse through any kitchen store or department store; again, it would be helpful for the couple to register for needed items. One fun idea is to have each guest bring a favorite recipe along with one item needed for its preparation. Some examples: chocolate chip cookies with the cookie sheets, Quiche Lorraine with a quiche dish. The hostess may provide a recipe box to put the recipes in, or write them in a book designed for this, entitled The Private Cookbook.

By Tresa Erickson One of the first decisions newly engaged couples may need to make regarding their wedding is where to have it. For some, the answer is clear: anyplace but their home. For others, the wrestling begins. Should they have their wedding at home or someplace else? If you are among them, here are some factors to consider. Budget Depending upon the number of guests invited, having your wedding at home may be less or more costly. The longer your guest list, the more items you may have to rent from tables and chairs to a catering kitchen and tents to lights and port-a-potties. You may also need a cleanup crew for before and after the event as well as a landscaping crew if you are having your wedding outdoors. You may have to hire a valet parking service and purchase a generator to provide the extra power needed for the event. All of this can really add up. Space The more wedding guests you invite, the larger space you will need for your wedding. If you are having your wedding outdoors, this may not be an issue, unless you have a very small yard. If you are having your wedding indoors, on the other hand, you will need to ensure you have enough space for your guests to move around and mingle. Squeezing 50 people into your 10x10 foot living room could result in some leaving. Location Not every home is located in an idyllic setting. Some are near noisy highways or airports. Some are situated in really busy urban environments, and others, in remote regions. Make sure the home where you intend to get married is located in an area your guests can find and will feel comfortable mingling in. Theres nothing like the shrill of an ambulance or a round of gunfire to scare off guests. Safety Accidents are always a possibility no matter where you may have your wedding. Depending upon the setup of your home, you may have to take extra care to avoid them. If you have invited several seniors, you may need to remove or tack down area rugs, install handrails in your bathroom and so forth. If you have invited several young children, you may need to drain or gate off water features, install safety covers on your outlets and so forth. You should check with your vendors to make sure they have adequate coverage as well as with your own insurance agent. You may need to purchase an additional policy for your wedding. Other Considerations Even if your home meets the space, location

NOW HERE'S A TIP Keep salt or baking soda by the stove for small, quick cleanups. A good dose of salt will stop an egg from running all over the place. Dip a damp cloth in baking soda for a handy scrub. Although a handful of either might work in a pinch on a small flare-up on the stove, you should have a fire extinguisher close by for fires. "I used to comb through last year's calendar for important yearly dates when transferring them to the new year's calendar. This year I have gotten smart. At the end of the month, before turning the page, I highlight the items I'd like to put in next year's calendar. When I look back, I won't have to search through all the entries for the good stuff." -U.L. in Ohio "I just spent a lot of time cleaning my mother's bathtub in a long-neglected bathroom. To keep it from mildewing, I used paste wax to protect the walls. You can use car wax for the same purpose, and many people know about this helpful tip. But I wanted to add a caution: Walls only; do not wax the inside of the tub, especially if you have an elderly resident (or a child). And make sure to have a nonslip mat in the tub at all times." -- A Daughter in Oregon

NASCAR THIS WEEK

NASCAR legend and owner Richard Petty was part of the first NASCAR Hall of Fame class. Now, with Dale Inman's recent induction, there's a member of the Petty family in each of the first three classes. (John Clark/NASCAR This Week photo)

The King and His Court CHARLOTTE -- Richard Petty is, of course, The King of stock car racing, just as Roy Acuff was considered The King of country music and Elvis Presley of rock 'n' roll. Petty, who won nearly twice as many races (200) as anyone else in NASCAR history, remains a vibrant part of the Sprint Cup scene today. Petty was, naturally, one of the first five inductees into the NASCAR Hall of Fame, along with NASCAR founder William H.G. France, successor William C. France, Dale Earnhardt and Junior Johnson. The Hall of Fame has now inducted three classes, each containing five honorees. So great was the role of the Petty family in the sport's history that a family member has been included in all three classes. The Petty Enterprises patriarch, Lee, was a member of the second class. His nephew -- and Richard's first cousin -- Dale Inman was one of the five enshrined the night of Jan. 20. Another Petty, Richard's brother Maurice, will probably make the Hall of Fame soon. Inman was Richard's crew chief during most of The King's career, which ended, as a driver, in 1992. Richard Petty Motorsports, a descendant of Petty Enterprises, currently fields Fords in the Sprint Cup Series for Marcos Ambrose and Aric Almirola. Maurice Petty built the engines that propelled his brother to most of his 200 victories and seven championships.

"When some of those records were being accumulated, we didn't think there would be a Hall of Fame," said Inman, who was inducted along with Cale Yarborough, Darrell Waltrip, Richie Evans and Glen Wood. "We really weren't running for anything other than trying to beat the other competitors, get enough money survive and stuff like that. We didn't know it was going to grow into the great big sport that we've got now. "We've been around a long time, you know, and to still be as active as we are in the sport, with what we've been through ... we're still surviving, and I think that's great." President Kennedy was the fastest random speaker in the world with upwards of 350 words per minute. In the average lifetime, a person will walk the equivalent of 5 times around the equator. Odontophobia is the fear of teeth. The 57 on Heinz ketchup bottles represents the number of varieties of pickles the company once had.

CELEBRITY EXTRA Q: I got completely hooked on HBO's "Game of Thrones," and I can't wait until it returns for its second season. Would you know when that might be? -- Brad F., via e-mail A: Well, Brad, I just happen to have that little nugget of info -- and I am willing to share. The next season of the medieval-fantasy series begins (no fooling) April 1 at 9 p.m., and like the first season, the second season will be 10 episodes long. And Lena Headey (who plays Ceresei) tells us that season two will bring even more drama (Is that possible?). The show also stars Peter Dinklage as Tyrion, Emilia Clarke as Daenerys, Nikolai Coster-Waldau as Jaime, Kit Harington as Jon and Michelle Fairley Julianne Moore as Sarah Palin as Catelyn. ***

Q: I'm confused: First I heard Marg Helgenberger is leaving "CSI" for good, then I heard she's not, and now I hear she is again. Can you clear this up for me? -- Constance D., Newport, Conn. A: I'll try. Marg, who left the top-rated CBS crime drama at the end of January, is pretty much gone -- as a regular castmember. However, her character's future has been left open so Marg can return for a guest appearance, if she wishes. Marg assures her fans that they haven't seen the last of Catherine Willows: "That was one of the reasons why it was a little easier for me to leave the show, because the producers said to me practically every day that the door is wide open. If I'm available and I'm up for it, you betcha." *** Q: I remember seeing pictures of Julianne Moore in some entertainment magazines dressed up as Sarah Palin. Was that for a movie? If so, when will it be out? I'd love to see it. -- Margaret W., via e-mail A: Julianne does indeed star as the 2008 vice-presidential hopeful in the HBO movie "Game Change," which is based on the 2010 book of the same name. The movie premieres on Saturday, March 10, and also stars Ed Harris as Sen. John McCain and Woody Harrelson as campaign chair Steve Schmidt, along with Peter MacNicol, Sarah Paulson and Ron Livingston. The movie will mainly track the actions of the Republican

DOLLARS AND SENSE Finding Lower-Rate Credit Cards - BY David Uffington If your credit is solid but youre paying higher credit-card interest rates than youd like, dont expect the credit-card company to lower your rate without a request from you. Even then its likely youll be stuck. But you have another option: credit unions. Its likely that a credit union will be your best bet for a credit card youll want to keep long term. The National Association of Federal Credit Unions [www.nafcu.org] wrote in a recent news release that credit unions have an upper limit of 18 percent for both credit cards and loans. Their average credit-card interest rate is 12 percent, with some as low as 9 percent. When it comes to fees, credit unions are generally much lower. Credit unions are not-for-profit, so theyre not out to charge a fee for every loophole they can get away with. Youll find ATMs, good service and a friendly staff because as an account holder, you are a member-owner. If you want to look for credit unions youre eligible to join and see a comparison between their rates and banks, go online to www.culookup.com. (Tip: On the lookup screen, it asks for your whole street address. Dont give it. Youll get just as much information by putting in just your ZIP code.) Youll be shown a map of credit unions in your area. On the left side, click on Compare CU Rates for comparisons on nearly any financial product: car and boat loans, adjustable- and fixed-rate mortgages, money-market accounts, credit cards and certificates of deposit. The site also has a number of calculators for home, credit, retirement, savings and auto. Remember: Dont cancel your other credit cards if you take a new one for a better deal. Bring the balance to zero on old card, and then let the card sit unused. Your credit score is partially determined by the total amount of credit available to you versus the percentage of that amount you have used. If you have an unused card with a $10,000 availability and you cancel that account, the percentage of your total availability drops. As the percentage of credit you use rises (after you cancel a card), your credit score drops. Keep your percentage under 30 percent. Recent overhaul, B&W clutch, wfe

STRANGE BUT TRUE by Samantha Weaver When the now-classic television show Gilligans Island first aired in 1964, critics were not impressed. The review published in the San Francisco Chronicle said, It is difficult to believe that this show was written, directed and produced by adults. It marks a new low in the networks estimation of public intelligence. The show went on to air for three seasons and spurred three TV movie sequels.
