In-text Citations
When you quote or paraphrase text in the body of your paper, you need to cite your source by inserting an in-text citation at the end of the sentence. For QUOTED text, include the page number: Text you intend to copy word for word needs to be put in quotations: i. (Authors last name, Year of publication, p. #) ii. Example: (Miller, 2008, p. 472). For PARAPHRASED text: If you rewrite something in your own words, you still need to give credit for the idea! iii. (Authors last name, Year of publication) iv. Example: (Miller, 2008). In the following examples, dont forget to add the page number at the end if its quoted! TWO authors: v. (Last name & Last name, Year) vi. Example: (Miller & Smith, 2010) MORE than two authors: vii. Example: (Miller, Smith, & Johnson, 2009) NO author: If there is no author, but an organization is credited for the article, use that in-text: viii. Example: (Mayo Clinic, 2010) If there is no author or organization, use the title of the item: ix. Example: (APA is awesome, 2010)
