2. Choose one background square and sew two main squares to opposite sides. Press the seams open. Set aside. 3. Repeat step two. 4. Now sew together the three rows you have just made to create one large nine patch. The nine-patch should have an accent square in the center.

5. Repeat this process so you have a total of three large nine-patches. (You will have one 8 accent square remaining. Cut this into (4) 4 squares. You will use these later.)

6. Measure the nine-patch (should measure close to 24 ) and then cut each in half vertically and horizontally (about 12 ). Do not worry if your nine-patch is not exactly this same size; as long as your blocks are consistent, the quilt top will come together just fine.

7. Each nine-patch will be cut into 4 blocks. You should now have a total of 12 blocks.

8. Rotate each block so the accent square is in the upper right corner. Layout all 12 blocks in a pleasing arrangement of 3 rows and 4 columns.

9. Begin sewing blocks together by row. 10. Youll notice that each row has a white border on only one end. Choose one small accent square and one background rectangle. Sew them together along the short sides. Attach this unit to the end of the row of blocks.

11. Repeat until all 4 rows are complete. Press seams open. 12. Pin pairs of rows together, pinning at the intersections first and then easing or very gently stretching the fabric to meet at the ends. 13. Sew rews together. Press seams open.

14. Assemble the bottom border by sewing 4 small accent squares with 3 background rectangles in between, sewing along the short sides. (You will have 4 small accent squares remaining, which you will not need for this quilt. These extra allow for flexibility in placement.) 15. Pin the bottom border to the quilt top, again pinning at the intersections and easing or gently stretching as needed. Sew the bottom border to the quilt top. Press seams open. Your quilt top is complete!
