(Brief Description)

VMGS

VISION Communities that is dynamic, non-violent, viable, effective and self-reliant, where the dignity of women, children and men are upheld and continuously developed. MISSION 1. Organization of women and their families into viable self-help groups capable of directing and sustaining their own initiatives on issues like health, childcare, livelihood, laws, housing, environment and other concerns. 2. Acceptance by the Philippine society of the central significance of womens perspective in the national struggle for social transformation.

G OALS
(1) Develop viable and visible organizations that will enable women and their families to participate in the planning, decision making and action affecting their lives; (2) enhance their capacity to earn income, access and control of resources to improve their quality of life; (3) Be securing in their person and homes from all forms of abuse and violence; (4) Relate and advocate with government agencies and the private sector for more responsive program, policy and budget.

STRATEGIES: Community Organizing A right does not become an actual right unless claimed, asserted and safeguarded, the major sustaining factor in any endeavor is an enlightened and active community who own their issues and are willing to see them through. Multi-stakeholder collaboration - No one has a monopoly of truth and capability; everyone has a role to play Capability building a well trained and appreciated human resource can develop other resources... Advocacy and Mobilization to Mainstream issues in programs, policies and budget of government and concerned institutions

PROGRAMS and SERVICES

Womens Savings and Credit Center (WSCC)

The program provides loans for livelihood to urban and rural women with built-in capital build-up and savings scheme. It also assists product development and marketing. Presently, it continues to serve credit users from the upland and urban barangays of Cebu City, Mandaue, Minglanilla areas as well as those partners in the Municipality of Hilongos, Leyte.
Bantay Banay (BB)

A comprehensive family/ community watch program with spectrum of activities and interventions to alleviate, if not totally eliminate domestic and other forms of violence against women and children. Its main strategies are the involvement of communities, interagency collaboration, mainstreaming in governance and identifying champions in every area. In Cebu City, the Bantay Banay Volunteers Federation and an Inter-agency Council that responds to the cases. Bantay Banay has been replicated in more than 75 cities and municipalities across the country.
Youth Program 1. Bantay Banay Youth (BBY)

The Foundation also extends trainings and other enhancement activities to the youth from barangays and schools sensitizing them on gender issues, childrens rights, leadership traits and other community activities. They are trained to identify red flags of abuse and enabling them to act as peer facilitators.
2. Kabataan sa Paglaum (KSP) or Children of Hope

A support program for potential street/ and working children/ youth in the citys depressed community. Assistance for school supplies, savings scheme for working children, tutorials, values formation sessions/ inputs, exposures are among its attendant services. They are also involved as peer facilitators in responding to victims of child abuse and are also involved in community waste management activities.
Womens Integrated Support and Crisis Center (WISCC)

A comprehensive program offering direct interventions such as temporary shelter, counseling, medical and legal assistance/ referrals and a facility to respond to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other forms of abuse on women. Aside from crisis intervention and the referrals and a facility to respond to victims of the Center has also organized the survivors to create their own support group, namely Dagitab sa Kaalim (Light for Healing), to meet for regular updating on the current issues of women, reflection and sharing on ways of coping with the experiences and challenges of single parenthood.
Katilingbanong Pagdumala sa Biya

(KPB) or Community Waste Management

The project aims to clean Cebu through a viable and sustainable waste collection system that will be done by the community themselves. The project covers 16 barangays in Cebu City and services other barangays and municipalities for training on segregation, recycling, composting and other aspects of RA 9003.

History
: Lihok Pilipina efforts started in 1985 as a project of Pilipina-Cebu Chapter. It started from a personal experience of a community organizer and member of Pilipina (now the Foundations Executive Director) who lived in a depressed area of the city. A child of a neighbor died of dehydration which could have been prevented by oral dehydration fluid or salt-sugar solution. Although some of the women knew how to prepare it, there was no venue for sharing. This situation prompted her to organize 20 women to meet regularly and discuss among themselves their experiences regarding primary health care, preparation of herbal medicines and even family problems.

Six months after, a social credit program for women was given birth after the organizer was given such idea when four of these women requested to borrow money to purchase two sacks of peanuts to be sold during the Sinulog festival. The organizer lent them P700 which they returned with 20% interest, the amount usually charged to them by the usurer, however it was not accepted by the organizer and instead was used as a rolling fund for the credit program. With P10, 000 from the Assisi Foundation and mobilization fund from Kahayag Foundation, credit was made available to 17 women, later to 61. The Pilipina members realized that gender sensitivity is best integrated especially among women involved with small income generating projects. Some of the members helped out in providing inputs in productivity and legal education. At around the same period, a few of the Pilipina members, with the Christian Life Communities Group in Cebu were involved in putting up the Kabataan sa Paglaum, a program for street and working children. Lihok Pilipina was registered with Securities and Exchange Commission in 1987 with the members of Pilipina-Cebu Chapter as its incorporating members and its officers selected by Pilipina-Cebu Chapter.
