Its wondrous what a hug can do. A hug can cheer you up when youre blue. A hug can say, I love you so! Or, Gee, I hate to see you go! A hug is, Welcome back again! and,Great to see you! Whereve you been? A hug can soothe a small childs pain, and bring a rainbow after rain. The hug!! Theres just no doubt about it We scarcely could survive without it! A hug delights and warms and charms. It must be why God gave us arms! Hugs are great for fathers and mothers, Sweet for sisters, swell for brothers. And chances are your favorite aunts, Love them more than potted plants. Kittens crave them, Puppies love them, heads of state are not above them. A hug can break the language barrier, and make your travels so much merrier! No need to fret about your need of em; The more you give, the more theres of em! So stretch those arms out without delay!!

AND GIVE SOMEONE A HUG TODAY!!!

What do I do know, forget about her? NO WAY! My foolish heart was too much in love. So what happened next? Well, one of my customers happened to be a sweet old Italian lady with a knack for arranging marriages. She had liked me since I had begun working at the bank 4 years before, and she had, in fact, tried to hook me up with other girls before, but I had always declined. Arranged marriages just were not my thing. This sweet old lady came to the bank in early December and cheerfully told me: You know, theres a girl who lives right next door to me, and I think you would really like her. My ears perked up because I knew that the old lady lived right next door to Maria. Still, I just sighed and told her: Mam, I DO know that girl and, believe it or not, I also happen to be in love with her. But I know she is engaged to some lucky guy in Italy. At this point the old lady excitedly told me: Then you will be glad to know that her mom told me things are not working out between them. Her fianc wants her to stay in Italy when they marry and she wants to stay here. Oh, please, please, please, please God, let it be true, just give me a chance to win her and I wont ever ask for anything else, I swear I wont. That was my silent prayer. The old lady hatched a plan. She invited me to her house with the excuse of decorating the Xmas tree, and she then asked Maria to stop over to help in decorating. And she did come in through the adjoining porch, and we just chit-chatted and had coffee. She then invited me to meet her family next door. I became a friend of the family and they even had me over for dinner a few times. Still, she was engaged and I just didnt know what to do. I never could declare my love for her because I never had an opportunity to be alone with her. And so I went to talk to Father Robert and opened my heart to him. He simply told me: Giovanotto (to this day he calls me giovanotto, young man), if you cant tell her you love her in person, just write her a letter. Being in love is not a sin. If she loves the other guy, you simply have to resign yourself. Gee, why didnt I think of that? And so I wrote her a letter, a long letter, a very long letter, a six page letter telling her how much I loved her. The next Friday she didnt show up at the bank. I found out she had gone to the 5 and 10 store across the street. I left the bank in a freezing rain and went to talk to her. In a very emotional confrontation, I began pleading my love for her out loud in front of other customers. I was embarrassing myself and her too, and she didnt like that at all. She brusquely told me to leave her alone. I went back to the bank with a broken heart. The next morning, Saturday, the phone woke me up. It was late in the morning and I was groggy and hung over because did I tell you about the half bottle of scotch I had drunk the night before? Cursing under my breath, I answered the phone yelling: Who is it? It was Maria calling to apologize for having been rude with me the previous evening. As soon as I heard her voice I told myself: She is going to be mine! Forty seven years later we are still going strong. OK, now, I told you my story. What is your love story? immediately turned to the worst. She stopped by my office to say hi and Dont be bashful. Tell me about them and I will put them in then she smilingly told me: Guess what, you were right. I got engaged writing. Our very talented editor Donna Marie Pesce - suggested I write an article about Valentines Day. I thought it was an excellent idea, not only because its very appropriate for the month of February but mainly because her suggestion can potentially provide me with a great source of material for future articles. But only with your cooperation. Let me repeat that, IN BIGGER FONT SIZE & IN CAPITAL LETTERS: ONLY WITH YOUR COOPERATION!!!! Allow me to explain I would like to write articles about love, personal love, YOUR personal love story. How did you meet your spouse? What made you fall in love with her/him? What keeps your marriage strong? I am sure many of us have charming stories to tell, and I just hope some of you will be willing to share them with your Lodge brothers and sisters. So, Where do I begin to tell the story of how great a love can be, the sweet love story that is older than the sea, the simple truth about the love she brings to me, where do I start? Thats what Andy Williams used to sing. YES! Where do I begin? To break the ice, Ill begin with MY personal love story, OK? ------------------------------------------------------------Do you believe in love at first sight? Give me a break, guys, thats the stuff for romance novels, and yet, and yet, and yet Well, technically my story with Maria was not love at first sight. I had seen this very attractive young lady several times before, always on a Friday evening, when she came to the Union Street office of WSFS - the branch bank that I managed to cash her meager paycheck and to deposit about one third of it in her savings account. Her constant thrift had caught my attention because I must make a confession - after working in a savings bank for 40 years, I still dont know what the word savings means. Her commendable savings habit wasnt the only thing that had caught my attention, of course. The fact that she looked and was built like Sophia Loren was another factor that had raised my antennae. And dont anybody make any cracks about that! Anyhow, sometime in May of 1963 Maria came in to cash her check and make her usual deposit, but she then came & sat in the customers lounge. She had to buy Traveler Checks because she was going to Italy on vacation. By pure luck, I happened to be the one who waited on her, & we began to chit-chat in Italian (her English was still very limited). It was the very first time I had actually spoken to her. While chatting with her, I was attracted by her beauty, of course, but also and perhaps mainly I was charmed by her exquisite simplicity. Other customers were waiting, but we kept talking on and on, just chewing the fat. I remember telling her jokingly: I bet you are going to Italy to get married. And she immediately answered: No way, who would want me? And anyway, I like it here in the United States. We talked for a good half-hour, and then she left. But while she was away, I just couldnt stop thinking about her. And I kept thinking about her to the point that I began counting the days until she would return she had said she was going to stay in Italy for 3 months. On the evening of Friday, Sep. 20, 1963 she walked in. It happened to be my birthday, and when I saw her my heart exploded with joy. It was the best birthday gift I could receive, but it
in Italy. I know it sounds overly dramatic, but I swear that my heart literally stopped. That night, I went home and drained half a bottle of scotch, neat. And thats because I only had half a bottle.
